Why this past weekend kicks the butt of any past weekend in recent memory )

I love the W. Excellent staff that really takes care of anything you could think of, comfortable and cool rooms, and their own soundtrack. It's very mellow background electronica, but it's just great to smooth out to. So I upped their latest CD and made cover art to share. Slap some cucumbers on your eyes, coat your face in a mud mask and mellow out. cover art and music files under the cut )

I've been so scatter-brained that I've been forgetting all sorts of important things. My brain has been like a ball of tangled yarn. My 'getting-divorced' friend and I spent Friday together, and after crying and getting enraged on her behalf for several hours, I really REALLY needed the downtime. (Crap! Brandi! I forgot to call you. See??? Gah, I suck all over.)

I have a most important question: chocolate chocolate chip muffins? Or healthy bran muffins? OR BOTH? *taps chin* Also, I need an idea to write. *hunts for one*

[ETA] I missed The Police last night!! Stewart Copeland - UNGH. (It's the high hat, y'all. Mmmmm)
I don't know if I mentioned that Mr. S and I bought a store back in October - a clothing store.  We did so that my sister - who has managed it for years - could one day take over and have it all to herself, because she's awesome at making the place hip, cool, and filled with things of awesome.  (Those of you who have her friended knew about her crazy former boss, etc.)

She's in the process of getting the website up with merchandise, etc.  and you can see it here.  Hip, hip, hip.  But great things I love, and I'm fashion trend retarded.  You can email her (on the site) for purchases outside of the DFW area, so really, what are you waiting for?  Make an honest woman of my sis!  She's in the process of adding pics right now, so bookmark the site and visit often!

*beams with pride*

(although I do wish there was less grey.  THERE.  I've said it. Sorry, Beth.  It's your site, so I'm holding my peace now.)
Golden Globes, how I love your pageantry. The red carpet. How I cringe when someone makes a fool of themselves. I physically left the room when Helen Mirren (good lord, may I look that good when I'm 63. Hell, when I'm 43!) stood up and her dress was unbuttoned in the back. Can't. Witness. People. Making a fool of themselves. (Can we kill the period between each word now?) And are you all seeing how HOT Sasha Baron Cohen is??? That is why I loved Da Ali G. The INTRO with him naked. I'm shameless.

There will be a second post today of fic, so you've been warned. :D Also, I'm installing a color coordinated journaling system for my exercise/food intake which I'll explain under a cut for those who are interested. )

Mr. S is leaving straight from his current project for Switzerland this weekend. While I'm excited about getting a new watch (har) and delicious chocolates, we'll miss him here at the home front. He'll be gone for two weeks. All hail google chat. Last night we made a poster for Emily, who is the Star Student for Kindergarten. We had to find pictures of her and write captions on a poster board so she can talk about herself (zomg, best award EVAH hahaha) to her class. We found a picture of Crawford (aka Cancer Kitty) and she BURST into tears. Literally wracked with sobs, my wee one. :( Aww, little kids and their love of animals. We chose a sweet picture of him as a kitten gnawing on a corn cob (he had weird eating habits) so she could talk about her friend to her classmates.

...I almost let her take one of the cats to school to get her to stop crying. :) This morning she kissed all of the animals on the head and let them know she'd be talking about them. She's also taking ehr shark profile book. It's a silhouette of all of the sharks - she can identify EVERY SHARK by its SHAPE. Dude. Her favorite is the Great White, natch.

AND I HAVE MY HOUSE ALL TO MYSELF AGAIN TODAY, WHEEEEEEEEE! (school holidays are HARD when the kids can't go outside.) My Scrubs fic was recced recently at [livejournal.com profile] rec_room and that was very gratifying to see. It's the little things that make a day start off great. *sends you all little things to make YOUR day splendiferous*
*naked man on piano* No, not that. The children are home. And speaking of my awesome daughter... Heh. For those of you who have Half Price Bookstores in your area, EVERYTHING is 20% off all day today. SCORE. #2 and I went to find some treasures and boy, did we. (Oh em gee, I totally have the Flowers in the Attic series and I am going to CHEESE HEAVEN. But why were they labeled horror? Because of the writing? Because of incest? Hmmm.) Reasons why #2 rocks:

In the kids' section, she pulls out Caldecott winner after Caldecott winner and tells me how much she "admires" that author and all the other books they've written, and can tell me all of the different illustrators she loves, etc. *beams* A shopgirl was shelving books near us and, after several minutes of my daughter telling me all of her favorite books and authors, beamed and nodded at me. We picked up some Jules Verne for The Boy, and he's happily traveling 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea right now. (How many of you are saying that like Phil Hartman? Hahaha.) Emily has some pretty books with great artwork that she's flipping through (not to mention a COOL pop up book on Prehistoric Sharks) and #2 is trucking through Madeline L'Engle.

And yes, their mother is reading cheesy pulp fiction about a brother and sister who fall in love. Ha. OH! And I purchased a steam cleaner today and I am SO EXCITED about cleaning my carpets. Which means the world is coming to an end. But new toys, wheeeee!!! *steam cleans our SOULS*

Oh, confidential to TBQ: your Caitlin books should be there today or this weekend. YAY!! Feel better! And Jan 2 is This Life +10, YAY!!! And tomorrow is the FNL marathon on Bravo, double YAY!!

Happy Friday, everyone!! If I don't post, have a fun (AND SAFE, omg DO NOT DRIVE IF YOU'VE BEEN DRINKING, or I will SPANK you and not in the fun way) NEW YEARS!
Why my older sister got the nickname Cool Tiff: )

AND NOW. TV TALK. Could be spoilerish under here, so be warned!

Friday Night Lights )

HEROES! I'm slow, but I finally caught up. )

30 Rock, aka the show you aren't watching! )

Whew. That was long. I have laundry to do and packing to commence, so INTERRUPT ME, PLEASE. I'm begging.
Where? Down in my heart. Who? Down in my heart! ~Rod and Todd Flanders. Iron helps us play!

Sorry for the whine from yesterday - nothing's changed, except the resignation on our part. BFF (Chrissy) has cheered me up in the best way possible: mocking my children. God, I love that woman. Emily (4 years old) sent "Aunt Chrissy" an email. Here is their exchange:

Emily,
Can't understand a word.  Are you home-schooled?
--Aunt Chrissy

She then sent a second email chastising me for my daughter's underdeveloped reptilian brain, and how this is a sign of my bad parenting, and how even worm babies can communicate better. Ahahaha! Also, books! She sent me a package of books! Book List! ) Her plane will land 7 days from RIGHT NOW. I am so excited to have her come for a visit!! It's been almost a YEAR. That's too long.

THIS INTERVIEW with Bill O'Reilly and David Letterman made me squirm, but feel joy about David. "60% of what you say is crap." I'd say that number is higher, but I'm glad he said it. And then you have Stephen Colbert and Conan O'Brien mocking it? Ahahahaha!!!

I spent an HOUR on this site - it certainly kills time in a pleasant way. Nice, peaceful, slightly odd in spots, and completely worksafe. I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL Friday, the weekend's almost here officially. I smooch you all!!
How to identify a Lord of the Rings obsession:

when your three year old grabs the ring on your finger and croaks out "myy precioussss..."

Whenever there is a Maybelline commercial my older two say, "that's Buffy!" At least they'll be cooler than the Brittany wannabes.
We stopped off my my folks house and my dad gave me a CD of all of his guitar performances from when I was a child and he was a studio musician. It's all his original stuff, and I am sitting here, tears running down my face remembering how he used to play my sister and I to sleep with beautiful acoustic music. Small, braids, nightgowns that went to the floor, and my cool dad with lambchop sideburns and his guitar that made us smile and our dreams sweet.

Everyone should have a day of remembering their parents when they were perfect - before you knew they could screw up.

God, he was good.
