OH MY GOD the entire choir at this church I sometimes play the flute for is made up of people like that as well as aspiring opera singers. I secretly cry whenever I hear them practice.

Not to mention the whole fiasco with the terrible, terrible director they had after their original organist had to quit because of health issues. I am pretty sure some people gave up attending because of that guy. Music is such an important part of any sort of church service.
