I recognize that a good 60% of you that have me friended have done so to read the train wreck that is this LJ. Which is fine, great, good, all of that. No worries! Last night I watched Really Bad Lesbian Short Films. I thought I was getting a compilation of Women-Themed short films. Which they were, but I swear to GOD I if hear a single trumpet note sound over an over again with a gauze-covered lens softly focusing on a woman longingly looking out of a window one more time... Someone's gonna be in a drive-by. *sounds of gunfire* JESUS H. I'm pretty sure we've moved beyond the whole "woman trapped by The Man, can only peer through 'glass ceiling, as represented by glass window' which is symbolic of her Longing For That Which She Cannot Have."

Oh and bad porn. Loooooots of bad porn in them. o_O There was a funny American-directed one, where a girl was interviewing for a potential girlfriend, and it poked fun at all of the lesbian stereotypes in a really funny and positive way. Aaaaaaaanyway.

I'm actually a little young for a lot of the late 80's-early 90's stuff, but what I know is awesome.

What's your stance on english rap (roots manuva, the streets, dizzee rascal)? It seems a lot more fertile right now than (mainstream) American rap. (B.E.P. Chingy etc.)

HAHAHA! Robbie Van Winkle, aka "Vanilla Ice." He went to one of our rival high schools and used to hang out at a dance club I frequented, "Monopolys" and ... Oh, that's right, they moved. Okay. So he would go to this club that was mostly techno, or hip-hop wmixed with techno and work on his "moves" behind the wall that separated the dance floor from the bar.

English scene is very garage, not the overly polished production values. Also, check out 'M.I.A.', very cool Sri Lankan born English raised girl. 'The Streets' is verging on beat poetry over music but just so damn awesome. 'Roots Manuva' is great as well as Dizzee Rascal.

Ever checked out Buck 65? Kind of folk/country mixed with rap. Like a cooler version of Everlast, esp. the 'Secret house against the world'. Peaches is also profane and cool beyond telling and her next album is apparently called 'Impeach my bush'.

Canadians CAN rap, just not Snow.

Oh, and from the New Zealand (which is incredibly awesome) rap scene Scribe, he gonna be huge (at least in Australia/New Zealand). Get the 'Not Many (remix)' it has one of the most catchy chorus since the early 90's. Just trust, and get your hands on this one. The Go Team aren't strictly hip-hop, but is one of the most fun concerts I've ever been to.

What's happeniing in the American scene right now besides Kanye/Common? I'm into Blackaliscious, Lyrics Born, Sage Francis and several others I can't remember.
