Today is Tax Free Day in Texas - getting the kids' school clothes/supplies and saving 9%, plus, most stores encourage shopping by having additional savings, so WOOT! I usually come out ahead by 15 - 20%, which is nothing to sneer at. So quit sneering, who do you think you are: Snape? HA! SCHOOL SUPPLIES! Oh, man, I love buying school supplies. I want to pull out my label maker and start putting names on everything, which gets me into organization mode, which means some order will come back to my life, YAY SCHOOL!! (Yes, I realize school starts too damn early in Texas. It will change next year to the week after Labor Day, which seems more normal.)

AND: since everyone will most likely be out shopping, and I scoped out everything I wanted early, so it's just a matter of zipping in, buying, and heading back, no one will be at the pool, so we're planning an afternoon there, JOY!

[eta!] All of this savings is helping me to get a leg up on the pile!

AND: if my teenager on the block is in need of cash (and I bet she is) we're going to get her to watch the kiddoes so we can go see TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE LEGEND OF RICKY BOBBY, and I would like to take a few minutes to tell you WHY you should see this movie:

  • It's getting great reviews, comparing it to the greatness of Anchorman, maybe even BETTER.

  • It has Sasha Baron Cohen as a gay Formula1 race car driver from France, and he's married to Andy Richter

  • It has Gary Coleman (yeeeah. We're gonna need you to come in on Saturday.) and he apparently steals the show

  • It has WILL FERRELL, and I love him, and he's good friends with Jon Stewart, who loves him back, and are you saying there's something wrong with Jon Stewart's judgment?

  • Jon Stewart and Will Ferrell have a BABY TOGETHER.

  • What on earth do you have against laughing? And if you DON'T LIKE LAUGHING, why on EARTH are you hanging around this place? We encourage that sort of thing here.

Shake - n - Bake, people. If you ain't first, you're last. And all of the product placement jokes in this movie are CRACKING ME UP. (Be sure to stay for the closing credits - there's some outtakes that were improv-ed that had me rolling when I read about them. Discussions on a) how to properly address Jesus at a prayer: baby? Or grown Jesus? b) more product placements at meal time and c) John C. Riley waxing philosophical and rednecked about said topics.

God, I love a good satire and parody.

AND: it's [livejournal.com profile] tinpanalley's birthday, and I hope it's FABULOUS.

AND: this makes me love the band OK Go even more: this video is AWESOME! Who doesn't love nerdy/pop guys with DANCE ROUTINES??

AND: I'm baking a Red Velvet cake (Jess: she saw a picture in my cookbook and changed her mind, so yay easier!) and I get to have some tomorrow (even though I have to be with my MIL - who is getting more and more childlike and passive-aggressive as the time flies) but my folks will be there and we're celebrating Em's birthday early so her Daddy can be there (he's traveling during the week) so YAY WEEKEND, TOO!!

HAVE A GREAT DAY!! *spazzes and gears up for shopping!!*

It is being put before Congress to make it a Federal thing, YAY!! You may have it soon... 13 states have it so far.

*saves like a SUMMBITCH!*

(And people from Arkansas and Oklahoma drive in for the weekend to take advantage, which is funny, because gas isn't cheap so... Not so much with the savings, people!)

If my utter love for Anchorman is any indication, I will adore Ricky Bobby in all his jumpsuited glory. I'll probably have to wait a couple weeks to see it but I can't wait to squee through others.

Hard to explain to my movie-selling son, but I find it difficult, these days, to look with joyful anticipation to an experience which involves sitting in a crowded room with a bunch of strangers.

Instead, I'm going to head to St. Paul and see what roses the Clement's are selling cheap, and then hanging out in a vineyard drinking Oregon Pinot Noir and, possibly, strangling Jim if he decides the world needs to hear his Freddie Blassy impression one more time.

Julia, really, I love the boy, but he's got a need to fill the world with noise.

I will take your place with movie going - I looooooove going to the movies. I love the whole experience.

(And I would then meet up with you for flower shopping, for I am feeling the need to plan a new garden for October planting...)

I completely forgot about tax-free weekend here in NC. I'll have to go trolling around the stores to see what I can find.

I realllllly want to see Ricky Bobby. It looks most excellent, and I kinda have a feeling I'm going to like this French guy. Plus, if it's being compared to Anchorman. . . if there is a scene as funny as the "Newsmen Streetfight" scene, I will be pleased.

Also, hi. *waves*

OMG BRICK TAMLIN. I love lamp.

I am so fricking excited about today, I can barely STAND IT!!!! (And how awesome and you and Lee for sharing my Will love?? I *LOVE* him.)

If Paul Rudd had a cameo in this movie (he doesn't) they might have had to scrape me off the ceiling.

Hi there! Yay for NC getting in on the goodness of tax-free! All but one review (and it's someone who HATED Anchorman, which - 'nuff said) has been very favorable, and saying this is the same kind of fun - but less "sketchy-feeling" than ANchorman.

The Newsman Fight had me hiccupoing from laughing so hard. GOOD LORD I AM EXCITED!!!

LA POLICIA!

I really didn't think there was much that would make me want to see Talladega Nights, 'cause I personally can't stand Will Ferrell, but this did it:

It has Gary Cole (yeeeah. We're gonna need you to come in on Saturday.) and he apparently steals the show

Gary Cole rocks my world. Why did Crusade have to get cancelled? *whines*

I lost a Shot Silk rose, badly virused and prone to all sorts of illness, which I'd nursed for twenty years, and am planning on replacing it with Crepescule and another climbing china or noisette on tghe south wall of the house between Mutabilis and Buff Beauty. Rather depends on what Heirloom has; their selection of tender roses isn't as wide as the folks down near Brenham, but their own root, so if I have an arctic outbreak that kills the top growth I can expect regrowth.

Julia, all of that planiting waits on digging a trench next to the house so the sill can be replaced, of course.

Save me Jesus! Save me Tom Cruise!

I DON'T KNOW HOW?!?!!! I gave Maren a few recs last night, if you're interested in fic.

ALSO: if you can't feed your burgeoning addiction, let me know and I will get you eps!! It must be shared! *pays it forward*

MOVE TO TEXAS. The men are more handsome and lovely, the jobs pay better, the housing is cheaper and I AM HERE. (And Mr. S has attractive and single and successful male friends, HELLO.) *evil*

*cough* Julia. I haven't been able to irrigate my lawns, etc. since JUNE 1. You want to talk about weeping... The roses are pulling through, but my phlox, russian sage, tomatoes (all the veggies) my Japanese maples... they are so sad and dehydrated. *cries*

One good thing: I just found an outfit that will SHIP AND SPREAD an entire cubic YARD of compost for TWENTY SIX DOLLARS. (Are you kidding me???) I'm hoping a few more inches of top dressing will help rejuvenate the beds... *lusts for your roses* *and cooler temperatures*

Sorry, one of my shortcomings, I'm afraid... :)

Gary Cole's a pretty good dramatic actor, too, but I agree he does fabulous comedic work.

Oh, what kind of frosting are you using on your Red Velvet cake? I'm going to make one and I am looking for ideas for frosting.

HAHAHAHA!! It's called Sex Panther. Studies show that 60% of the time, it's effective all the time.

That... that doesn't make any sense. Oooh. It stings the nostrils.

OH MY GOD, it's like a baby diaper filled with Indian food! It smells like the inside of a fake leg!

Homemade cream cheese frosting! Gimmie a bit, and I'll reply later (we're heading out in a few) with the actual recipe, if you want!

Mmmmmm, cake!! (And Crazydiamondsue posted HER recipe for Red Velvet cake - I think she has it in her memories under "Recipes" if you're looking for more!)

You forgot to say that John C. Riley is a reason to see the movie. I love him. I'm looking forward to contrasting his role in this to his role in Days of Thunder.
