In the form of a song, but fortunately, it's a good one. *points to "Current Music" for those interested*

Lots and lots of activity this weekend,
Mr. S got back from his trip on Friday, just as I was getting over my cold, and he took me out to lunch for yummy soup. Awww. And then we bought a new car. That facilitated the need to completely reorganize our garage, which meant that he decided he needed a completely new system for tool storage, etc. So... that was what we did Friday and Saturday. Clean the garage. Whee? (Okay, I'm such a fan of organization, that I was totally into it. Shut it.)

Which led to me getting the cleaning bug big time, plus, having been sick for a week, that wasn't a bad thing. Laundry room, kitchen, living room, dining room. Everything out. Floors/carpets completely scrubbed. Furniture cleaned. CDs, DVDs reorganized and alphabatized. There isn't one speck of dust anywhere in the downstairs portion of my house. The kids' rooms? Hmmm. We'll tackle those later this week. Apparently, they turned their bathroom upstairs into the toilet from Trainspotting, so we cleaned the hell out of that. Correction: I lorded over them and cracked the whip. GLEH. Why are boys so GROSS???

It rained all day yesterday, which was much needed. It's only in the 70s here!! Okay, those not familiar with Texas weather, that's highly unusual. It's gorgeous and clean and green and crisp outside, and I'm most pleased. I discovered that my garden wasn't as completely dead as I was afraid it would be, so that's nice. I was gearing up to replace everything this fall, so YAY.

Got Mr. S all caught up on The Office (UK) while cleaning, and we agreed that both shows (US vs. UK) are unique enough to not infringe upon the other. Got him caught up on Project Runway as well, and he agrees it is incredibly interesting, even for someone like him who knows nothing about how fashion is made, etc. He also agrees that Jeffrey is an ass, Michael is the best, and Laura has a jaw that could knock holes into granite. JEEEZ. You could break a board across that mug. He's heading back to Brazil for the last time today, so that's another notch in the plus column. Next stop: beautiful Toledo, Ohio. Ahahahaha. Ha. Right after he spent several days trying to convince me we should move to where there's snow. That'll cure that Houston native.

I am realizing that I'm incredibly dull and non-fun lately, which is displeasing. I'm going to get my groove back, which may or may not consist of me hooking up Taye Diggs. I didn't see that movie, so I'm not sure how that works. :D I *do* know that it will consist of me getting in better shape, as [livejournal.com profile] crevette has inspired me to join up for the DFW 3 day breast cancer walk in late October. 60 miles in 3 days. No problem. (she says) I'm waiting to hear back from the BFF (the fittest human on the planet) to see if she can come out and do it with me, so I won't have to go it alone. None of my local peeps are game. WIMPS. Expect to hear from me on fundraising soon! *gimlet eye*

Oh! Last thing: Animal Planet is hosting a tribute show tonight, 5pm CST for Steve Irwin. Not one negative comment about the man here, please. I thought he was great, and my kids did too. (And I'm seriously behind on comments, reading, and there's been a TON of fic lately, GAH. I'll get to it. I may be late, but I'll get to it!!) May you all have fabulous and lovely September 5th days today!

Wow!

Good luck, lady! The fundraising is a bear and you don't have a lot of time, so get going! $2200, ahoy!

You truly rock!

OK- first off- so not boring.

Secondly- we have bonded in the house cleaning because that's what I did for 4 days...yes, I stood in my bathtub with a toothbrush to clean in the cracks of the shower door- because I am anal. And even though my basement (which we use up here in the north- it's where the tv/computer/playroom are) still needs the once over- I am very happy that the rest is 95% done. No husband to help mess it up, either- as he is off making a commercial.

I'm going, I'm going! I'm pretty fortunate to have a large group of people I can request donations from, so I'm not sweating it. Yet. :)

Our's is a few weeks after yours - Oct. 27-29th? WOOT!

And thanks for your updates about your training and the event. They mentioned it in the paper today, and I signed up. Sistah in solidarity, yo!

There are a few short ones happening up here, too. A 3.1 mile walk in early October, for starters. Just if you're interested.

*totally earmarks you for hitting up later!*

JESS IT WAS DISGUSTING. I don't think my hands left my hips for about an hour. There was a lot of huffing and puffing from me.

Hands and knees scrubbing for those kids. That'll show 'em!! (oh my god I love your new icon!!!! *hugs nad love for EVER*)

Yay thank you for the icon loff! I was thinking, you know, time to switch to the fall icons, much like it is time for me to switch to my fall shoes (of which I currently have none that are wearable, woe).

HURRAH! Dude. I went to Target and bought an OXO grout scrubber. It's a toothbrush on CRACK. It really does the trick. And I was cleaning old school this weekend: Borax (excellent on porous surfaces like tile and porcelain) and vinegar for mopping. I fully support your anal retentiveness, and nod in agreement.

The gameroom (upstairs, because basements aren't possible here) is going to get a MASSIVE cleaning from us this week. It's seriously going to take a day or two. SNEAKY KIDS!!!

Oooh, what's the commercial? *passes disposable gloves*

Oooh, shoe shopping! I should probably do that, too. I'm a TERRIBLE girl in that I have the same shoes for years. Every now and then I buy new flip flops, and new tennis shoes every three months, but cute shoes? I should do that, too.

*goes shopping with you vicariously* Fall!! Soon... I should make bread today - get in the spirit. Mmmmmm.

I tend to wear the same shoes over and over. Behold my summer slides, which should be hidden from sight!

But my fall shoes from last year are worn through (see: wearing same shoes over and over). And my trainers still work, but have lost their spring.

Wah!(bmulance!)

Omg, fresh bread! *flies to TX*

Hee - trainers. I should say that instead of tennis shoes, as I haven't played tennis for months. TRAINERS! *pulls on jumper and knickers* What? I was naked and cold.

One good thing about living in the south is it is acceptable to wear slides, mules, flip-flops, sandals for months into fall, as it is still warm. *omg, does not wear white, tho* <-- or WILL I?

Fresh whole wheat bread!! I love making bread. I realized I need to do that more. So simple, and SO GOOD. *pulls out pot of fresh preserves for your arrival* I need a running/exercise icon and a fresh bread icon. *goes hunting*

Ours is October 13th... FRIDAY the 13th.

I'm actually having bad problems with blisters and my toes. I'm calling a foot doctor today, actually.

*plays ominous music, omg*

Have you tried anti-blister socks before? New Balance used to make them, and I thought they were great. These are Nike's. Poor baby! Are your shoes too tight? Or just the constant stress, perhaps? Oh, plus y'all have had wet weather, so that can't be helping.

Here's hoping he'll have some good solutions for you, cookie.

Hahahahahahahaha, JUST this morning, I said something about putting white shoes away, and TFMN said that he didn't think that held any more. So of course I did the bit from Serial Mom, where she goes after the woman wearing white shoes on the jury.

Woman: Fashions change!
Serial Mom: Not this one! *prepares to killinate*

I think of mules as fall shoes, so I would wear mine from last fall, except the shocks are gone on them, meh. Flip flops are acceptable on warm days in darker colors, hahahahahahahaha *omgstrict*

Do you have a breadmaker? Or do you make it by hand? Do you think we should coordinate bread making groups from our various locales? Do you think we should become Amish? *quilts, cans, kneads various things*

I make the bread by hand. Mmmm. It's easier for me than breadmakers, honestly. Plus, upper body workout! And I fully support becoming a modern Amish. *keeps electricity*

Oooh, Mr. S is taking me to lunch! Back later! *smooch*

I think that Michael is da bomb. Most definitely. And I like Laura's take no shit attitude.

And, you so won't be hearing negative by me in regards to The Crocodile Hunter. I loved the exuberance and animated style of Steve Irwin. That man loved what he did for a living, and boy did it show. He taught so many children both here and abroad about wild animals and reptiles. My brother is 13, and I remember watching Steve on the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet with him.

And, I don't think Toledo is the worst you can do. I just applied for a job in Fargo, North Dakota.

Did I just read that Mr. S wants you to move where there is snow? Shall I send him some pictures of the year where we had 102" of the lovely white stuff? YES!!! FEET of it! Lasts all winter long! Yay!

Yeah, I know it's a pipe dream, you'll never leave Texas. But it gave me a happy moment.

I'm thrilled for you that you're doing this 3-day walk. You're made of steel, I know that. Amazing woman, I'll be happy to help out. You know my mom had breast cancer twice, right?

I'm getting some inspiration to do some cleaning myself just reading your post. I hope that feeling lasts...

OH MY GOD, BETH. THE CROCODILE HUNTER. *sniffs* I love Michael and Uli, too. I didn't like Uli's last outfit, the golds were wonky to my eye, but it moved beautifully and had wonderful details.

OH GOD. Fargo? "Tan Sierra!!!" Yeah, that's some bitter weather. (Really? REALLY??) Toledo has the benefit of smog, however. :D

And seriously: I had a bit of a crush on Mr. Irwin. (He had FABULOUS legs.) I liked that he got people to care about the "ugly" animals. The scary ones that are the coolest.

YEAH. He'll get over this love of snow VERY QUICKLY. He comes from the land of the ice and snow humid and mold, aka Houston. He knows NOTHING of living in snow. He visited it growing up as a child on ski trips. NOT THE SAME, honey. Man, getting out on my Grandma's roof to shovel the snow off in a white out? Yeah. GOOD TIMES.

I didn't know that about your mom! Mr. S's mom had it as well, and has been cancer free for five years now. *crosses fingers*

You should TOTALLY do some cleaning! Get out your label maker and wipe out drawers with vinegar and hot water, whoooo!! :D (And I am getting SO EXCITED about Oct.! I've been lax with email, but I did get it, and am most excited!)

I have what I call my 'summer sandals' and my 'winter sandals', the only difference being the winter ones have wider straps to keep my feet warmer.

When I did my 9 week stint in Chicago over October, Nov, and part of Dec, I was horrified that I had to buy closed toe shoes.

I have not worn them since.

Hey you!

Glad you're feeling better and good luck with the breast cancer walk.

Laura does indeed have a very prominent jaw but OMG do I love her. I want to be her when I grow up.

I wish I was going to be home to watch the Steve Irwin tribute. I loved him and I was so sad when I heard about him.

REally? With the Laura love? She rubs me the wrong way, somehow. I do like the construction of her clothes, but everything is in a taupe/cream/white palette and very similar. Not that that's a bad thing, just... I wish she'd use a pattern or color some time. But I would go NUTS if I was in the same place as her. She seems very bossy to me.

*squish* How are YOU doing? Big changes have been afoot with you, cookie! (I bet the tribute will be on torrents or YouTube quickly. He was pretty well loved.)

Date: 2006-09-05 07:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thepiratequeen.livejournal.com
I agree that her clothes can be a bit boring and I certainly wouldn't want an entire waredrobe of them but I like the professional look of them. If I was in the habit of wearing designer clothes to work then I would wear her stuff. And she doesn't strike me as bossy so much as overly driven. I have a feeling if you got her out of a work setting she'd relax a lot.

*squishes back* I am good. My week off was very relaxing and I got to see my family and my friends so that was good. And I saw Talladega Nights and Little Miss Sunshine and I'm a much better person for it. And my assistant started today so YAY! Someone to boss around AND take some of the pressure off of me.

60 miles in 3 days, owch! Back in my younger days (~12) I did a "Walk for Mankind" charity thing that was a 20 miler, the last 5 miles are all about pain...good luck! About a week ago I busted my toe, so no exercise for me for another week.

GAH, busted TOE. Ouchie. I've broken two in the past, so I know how much that hurts. I'm used to walking long distances (not THAT long every day, but 8 miles daily) and I used to be a hiker from way back, so I just need a little extra training to get my bones back into a proper lope. :)

Heh - you and my husband would get along fine. This weekend during the Big CleanUp, he was carrying the floor rug out of the living room for me to vaccuum and hit his toe on a hand weight one of the kids left lying around. (That should indicate that it was one of those girly hand weights, about 5 pounds.)

His pinky is a lovely eggplant. I wonder if he's telling the guys at work that he stalked a boar in the woods and fell down a ravine...

:D (I like your tale of a toe vs. bullet. Hahahaha!)
