Operation: Oh Shit, My Thighs Are Going To Be On A Movie Screen (the field manuals are awkward to carry, true) is finally yielding some results. For my own posterity, I'm putting my regime under the cut. Is potentially WAY TOO BORING to be read by anyone other than myself.
Have lost 5 pounds in two weeks, but more importantly: have lost two inches on EACH THIGH in two weeks. They're not perfect, they're not completely gushy/jiggle-free, but they're a far sight better than when I started. I have 10 more days until shooting starts.
...it's also helping that I have FINALLY gotten rid of my shorts tan line, acquired from last year's 3 Day and... never rid of since my bathing suit of choice is a bikini top and board shorts. Fish belly white upper thighs - every flaw magnified.
Also, if I slip and eat something not on my list of Good For Me foods (no dessert, no chips, nothing fried, nothing from a box, no sauces) I drink 32 oz. of water with lemon, loads of lemon. Holy water retention gone, bat man.
Today is grocery shopping day, which I love more than almost anything else, which is another reason why I'm very strange. (All the options! The fresh fruits and veggies! Meal options and planning! /DORK.) I'm also planning on spreading a half-ton of compost in the front garden, so that'll replace my walk today. o_0
IT IS FRIDAY!!! Whoo hoo, weekend! We have a pool party we're going to on Saturday, (our neighbors) and the hostess told me she was going to make frozen margaritas with rum. (She's from Canada) After I stopped gagging internally (I'm southern and have manners), I donated the tequila necessary to keep people from throwing up. I'm educating the public, one drink at a time. (Oh: Milagro tequila, natch, but Anejo instead of Silver. It's better for frozen 'ritas. Silver is good for on the rocks.) Alright, y'all! Drink one for me!
- Have done away with the "no food four hours before bedtime" mindset and eat small amounts of "good for me" foods every four hours to keep my metabolism firing. (various melons, low fat meats no more than 4 oz. in a serving, whole grain breads, cucumber slices, tomatoes, red bell peppers are always on hand ready to snack on, kidney beans, barley instead of brown rice, fruit and yogurt smoothies for breakfast or Kashi with non-fat milk, *cries* ONE alcoholic beverage PER WEEK *cries*)
- run on the elliptical treadmill for 30 minutes every day, without fail
- 5 times a week (in addition to treadmill) power walk 5-7 miles, keeping my 10-11 minute mile pace
- leg lifts, 100 each side
- pelvic thrusts with calves/feet resting on big ball
- "thigh master" squeezing with small ball for ten minutes a day
- lunges, even though it's killing my knees, 25 each side - need to try the sideways up the stairs and test the ol' leg-benders for pain

Date: 2007-08-24 03:08 pm (UTC)Good news on the car front: (a) unless they have to order parts, the fix shouldn't be expensive (I had images of the shop destroying my car door in order to fix the window); and (b) I think I'm going to be able to swap cars with a friend this weekend. She's going out of town and doesn't need her car so I'm going to leave mine in her garage (in case it rains) and borrow her car. So perhaps this Friday isn't going to be such a craptastic one after all. WHOO-HOO.

I won't be trying for that, but next week (after I finish this last book of the summer) I'm going back to the Y and actually checking out the gym. I've only been using the pool and it's a separate building so I don't even know what they've got up there. I'm hoping they have ellipticals though, because it's so much easier on my knees. I can't believe you're doing the lunges. I put in one of my DVD workouts the other day and only made it halfway through before my left quad was really bothering me. I don't know what I did to it, all I've done lately is walk the dog. But I stopped at the pain and did some gentle stretching and I feel better now. I need to get my butt in gear though, I feel like such a slacker lately.

Date: 2007-08-24 03:19 pm (UTC)Oh my god, I don't care how much room it takes, I LOVE my elliptical. The only thing I wish was different was the ability to lenghten the stride. I have a long stride, so I feel stunted on my Nordictrack. The ones at my old gym had that feature and I'd go for an hour without noticing. <3
I really shouldn't be doing the lunges (my knee pain is under the knee cap and where my tibia/fibia hits the joint) but it pulls the skin on your knee up so nicely... I also dug out my resistance bands. I should to the stretches with those and quit the lunges. (I'm just seriously freaked out at my thighs - the THICK HIGH PART - being on screen for anyone to see.
And you know, you just kicked butt in a TRIATHALON. It's normal to feel lethargic after doing something so major. I hope the gym turns out to be awesome. (My fave machine is the one where you strap your legs in stirrup like things and press out, or switch it to wide setting and press in. Mmmmm, thigh workouts.)

They work that area that's approximately two inches above the knee and while it *does* put some stress on the area, you may find it works for you.
Squat down so that you are on your toes and put your hands on the floor in front of you. Shift so that your hands are supporting 50% of your weight and straighten your legs. Bend and straighten legs until they are weak and wobbly. You will seriously feel this!
I hope that the explanation makes sense and that your knees will allow the exercise.
I want to see pictures of your legs!!!

There's a sit up where you spread your legs in a V on a wall, your ass up against the wall. Grab a broomstick, throw your arms up over your head while holding it, so your arms are on the floor, straightened out. Then sit up and touch your knees.
Jeeeeeeeeeez. I'm getting a mid-abdomen line of definition now, however. :D I'm at a 4 pack. Hopefully getting to a 6 pack one day...
