You know what makes me fire up my get up and go? Good music. Want some? ETA: New songs, 10 in total at 11:05am :)

1. Sanford & Son Theme Song This is maybe the best overall theme song next to the one for Barney Miller. (Best bass line ever. Second best bass line in a theme song? Night Court.) Okay, now I want to make a list of awesome TV show songs:

#1 The Jeffersons (who doesn't know this that's from the US and over 30?)
#2 Barney Miller (terrific show, AWESOME theme song) TIED WITH Good Times! (oh my god, Penny. Janet!!!!)
#3 Sanford & Son (is it just me, or do you whistle this one when you see some broken down POS on the road? Just me? Ha ha. Also great about it: electric organ.)
#4 Night Court (again: see bass line.)
#5 M*A*S*H (Suicide is painless. Damn, that was a great show.)

If anyone suggests Friends in comments, I might smack you.

2. 22-20s - The Devil In Me is a song that's new to me, and it is fashioned from equal parts of fantastic, kick ass, and aw yeah. If you have any other songs by them and feel like sharing, I'm open! This song makes me want to wear skinny jeans, a leather jacket, and punk my hair up and kick a mic stand over. WHOOO!

3. Bhangra Remix ft. Lodi Dodi Hey, how about some Bhangra, my second most favorite style of music EVER? (Dude, and this is no exaggeration. Okay, maybe a little. No matter what I'm doing, talking to the UPS man, standing in line at the bank, getting open heart surgery, if some Bhangra pop comes on, I'm dancing. EVEN IF I'M IN SURGERY.)

This is a (clearly) mash up of Bhangra (side note, that is the word for old religious songs, and the leaders of that faith in the 60s tried to get the kids back into their belief system by making them "fun." True story.) and "Lodi Dodi." Tell me how awesome it is in 25 words or less. You can't, because the awesome is TOO GREAT.

4. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - 100 Days 100 Nights I'm pretty sure everyone's heard of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings by now, but in case you haven't, here's the big hit off their album. The whole album has maybe 75% awesome on it, you have to be really into old school blues to like every one of them, imo. I like the kind of blues that don't sound like the blues, but more like, the angers. Or the funks. :D

5. UTFO - Roxanne, Roxanne This is one of my most favorite rap songs of all time. It raps about various illnesses, AS A PICK UP LINE. <3 True story #2 (but actually true) in an 8th grade speech debate meet, they let people do lip-synching (why? Who cares. Don't question the fantastic weirdness of this.) And I chose this song. I came in second, but that's not the point. The point is what the hell were they thinking at UIL? I even had BREAK DANCE MOVES. *pop locks* For the record, my greatest "white girl who loves hip hop" moment was in 7th grade, Texas History. On my report on the Alamo I dressed up two of my friends in making bolero jackets that I HAD MADE FOR THEM, and rapped to "The Rapping Duke," but changed the lyrics to reflect the tale of the Alamo. Instead of "Aretha Franklin, Aretha Franklin," yadda yadda it was "Uh Santa Ana, uh Santa Ana..." I got an A+.

NEW SONGS!

1. Blackmore Nights - Home Again This is an Irish group, and if we're in the car, the whole family sings out to this one. It's a great traffic song (or anytime song.) Makes me want to grab a point, kiss Moira, and call out, "It's tree tirty tree! The greatest toime in all of Ireland!"

2. Ike and Tina Turner - Shake A Tail Feather Anyone who's seen The Blues Brothers should know this song. And come on. Let me see ya shake ya tailfeather. (Aww, twistin'! Shake-a-shake-a-shake-a-shake-a-baby!)

3. Austin Powers Theme Song - Quincy Jones You need to know two things: I just did the whole intro dance in my house and scared my cat. What a pussy. Two, anything Quincy Jones does is GOLD.

4. Pushing Daisies - Birdhouse in your Soul How awesome to hear Ellen Greene and Kristen Chenoweth sing together? SO awesome. <3 <3 Ellen Greene's voice is so damn terrific.

5. One of the best. songs. Ever. Papa Was a Rolling Stone - Sly and the Family Stone Mama, I'm depending on you/to tell me the truth! Mama just hung her head and said....

Good lord. That song is just too much. TOO MUCH! I LOVE IT. (I hate when people misspell songs/groups when they rip. Um, PAPA. Not Pappa.)

(the songs are in a Box.net widget. If you can't see it, you can go directly to their site and play/dl.)

GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE! Unless you live elsewhere, then GOOD EVENING, FRIENDS. Also, [livejournal.com profile] anelith? YOU ARE A STINKER. A wonderful, wonderful stinker. Got your package, and thank you so much. I LOVE them. And you!

It was excellent! They were all a little crazy and much more loose than they've been lately, which was a lot of fun. And I sat next to a lady who hardly even tapped her foot. I had no idea why she was there as she apparently was not having any fun. Hee. *I* had a great time, though. They played "We Both Go Down Together" and I thought of you!

Aw yeah, I love me some cranky old Sanford & Son, but Good Times is way up there too. (Temporary layoff!) GOOD TIMES!! (Scratching and surviving!)

Ain't we lucky we got 'em?

Okay, isn't that WEIRD when people are not visibly enjoying a concert? I want to ask if them if they lost a bet, or something.

Awww, I would LOVE to see them live. I would totally have danced and rocked out with you. <3 <3

HEEEEEEE. You and SDWolfPup! It's awesome. Did I tell you how I dressed the Mister up as him for Halloween one year? I have a white, curly mullet wig and we put him in red long johns. BEST COSTUME EVER.

DAMNIT. I knew I was forgetting something! That is SERIOUSLY one of my most all-time favorites.

If I can skinny him back up, this year we're FINALLY going as The Prom King and Farmer Ted. *points to icon* I've had this great 80s-styled wig with a chunk cut out for years. I need a lavender prom dress to complete the look.

I bought that record. And had a crush on William Katt, even with that hair. And wrote GAH fanfic in my head. Heh, the acronym spells GAH.

PS Love how you expressed the way "free" was pronounced in that song.

Best. movie. ever.

Who doesn't love Jake Ryan? Who hasn't fantastized endlessly about Jake Ryan showing up in his hot red car and tight jeans to greet you after your sister gets married and your entire family forgets your birthday?

I mean, I've had other men love me before, but not for six months in a row.

Fred, she's gotten her boobies. . . I can't believe my grandmother felt me up.

By night's end, I predict me and her will interface.

No more yankie my wankie.

What was he wearing? Well, uh, let's see, he was wearing a red argyle sweater, and tan trousers, and red shoes... No, he's not retarded.

HAHAHA, I love this movie so much.

Jesus, Jake Ryan STILL gets me hot. I think it's the side burns. Or flannel shirt. I don't even know.

(My favorite moment EVER is when the geeks are being lifted out of the jocks' trunk and the one guy that looks like Bill from Freaks and Geeks SCOOTS OVER so they can pick him up. Ahahahahaha!)

Hello Stoney, what about Hill Street Blues?!?!? OMG LET'S BE CAREFUL OUT THERE. I also had that record, on 45. I think a pterodactyl ate it.

I adore you to itty bitty bits, but we could never do a road trip together because the music you'd choose to listen to would make my head explode. Nope, it's plane trips for us! :0D

You know what, that wasn't a show I watched. That or Miami Vice, and my husband is BOGGLED by that. So... I forgot! I'll have to look that song up to remember it. Perhaps I have some old daguerreotypes I could look at. (Hee)

HEE! You don't like the funk/soul, huh? I think, with the exception of modern country music, there isn't a genre that I don't like. WE COULD FIND A WAY. *mourns the Thelma to my Louise*

I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THAT. The first part, clearly getting that out of your head is better. Ugh, some of the shows my kids watch - the music is CRAP. Except for Spongebob Squarepants. We all love that theme song. :D (I can't HEAAAAAR yoooooou!)

From: [identity profile] brunettepet.livejournal.com
Unfortunately, the theme songs that most often pop into my head and won't leave are "Gilligan's Island" and "The Brady Bunch." I wish "Sanford and Son" or "The Jeffersons" themes would stage a coup!

I'm flying blind on Banghra. Any recommendations?

Ike and Tina! Sly!

ILU!

Also, I concur that all theme songs listed at the top are made of awesome. And, yes, I randomly bust out with the Jefferson's theme.

Fish don't fry in the kitchen, beans don't burn on the grill, it took a whole lotta tryin', just to get up that hill...

See, I usually default to The Jeffersons, and not just for theme songs. But then, I freaking LOVED that show and still catch it on re-runs. (Speaking of Re-Run, "What's Happening" is another song I'll sing in the shower. Even though it has no words. huh.)

I'll upload some really fun songs for you to get going!

Girl, you know it's for you.

The thing is, as white as I am (come on, you know I look like the Ultimate White Girl) I can freaking ROCK that theme song.

Now we're up in the big leagues! It's my turn at bat! As long as we living, it's you and me, Baby, ain't nothing wrong with that, uh we're a'movin' on UUUUUP!

(And dude: Good Times. I want to own that painting of JJs they show at the end.)

Good morning, Stoney! Thank you so much for giving me wonderful music to listen to with my coffee. I'm listening to Sharon Jones right now, and she's fabulous. I've never heard her before, I am sad to admit.
Bhangra is strangely compelling and hypnotic..one of my favourite movies Bend it Like Beckham had some really great Bhangra. The wedding scene is so joyful.
The Box Music thingy is made of awesome!
umm, I think we broke Box.net's server :(

Isn't Sharon Jones awesome? I mean, I love Amy Winehouse, but Sharon's the real deal. She's been the "female James Brown" in the south for a while. If you like it, you'll like most of their album that's out right now. GOOOD STUFF.

That movie has FUN Bhangra! I love that song from the wedding, Darshan - B21. I'm going to upload some Bhangra for another flister, so keep your eyes peeled to comments, if you want some. :D

(Oh, no! Check back? *sad face*)

Here's a random factoid for you - The Austin Powers Theme Song is actually a remake of the theme song from an old game show that was made and aired in Canada called Definition. Although it is much better with the Q-man doing it! Mr. Myers always throws in obscure Canadiana in his movies. Makes it fun for us Canucks to watch!

When I was oh, a freshman/sophomore in high school B.E.T used to have Good Times, Sanford and Son and The Jefferson's on in the morning. All three shows are excellent for getting ready to.

My dad ran into Sherman Hemsley a few weeks ago at Albertson's and they did that whole black man recognition chit-chat thing. Very adorable.

As long as we live, it's you and me baby, there ain't nothin wrong with that.

Shake it white girl, shake it!

Of course I believe the original of the song was Quincy's anyways, but Mikey used it for the Canadiana connection. If you remember Card Sharks, the host was the same guy from Definition (I Wiki'd it).
