I have Auntie Mame running through my head today. That's not a bad thing. How bleak was my puberty! :D

Oh, today is glorious. Beautiful blue skies, warmer arm, no cruel breezes, and I plan on spending most of it outdoors. I upped my morning walk to 8.75 miles today because I just didn't want to come in. Around the second mini-lake in my neighborhood a flock of seagulls herons ran so far awa-ay-ay (couldn't get away!) flew over head and they made me happier.

I have some big shrubs to move today, some mopping, and some windows to open up so I can air out my house. I'm not even going to let the rampant Crape Murder* get to me, even though it hurts my SOUL to see those ugly knees so brutally hacked and shaped. Stop killing your trees, people!! And it's almost time to prune your roses, but NOT the ramblers or you won't get any flowers this spring. (14 inches cut off on the 14th is the rule for the south.)

I have bread to bake, carnitas to cook, and corn tortillas to heat up. It's a fine, fine day. (I've been looking at plant pictures, which makes me happy. OMG, someone let me dig up their yard and put in more gardens, please!)

*for newbies around here, I'm a Texas Master Gardener. Trust me when I say that hacking your tree limbs is bad.

Tomorrow I am digging out my herb garden and starting it over again, and we are uncovering the big gardens to start getting them ready for the seedlings that are coming up on the garden racks in the hobby room. We took a bakers rack, hung 4' fluorescent lights with "gro-bulbs" in them on chains (so they can be raised up as the seedlings come along), and are doing everything from seed this season that can be. No more spending $100 on plants for my tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, beans, okra and melons. We have the little raised bed that we are going to put the radishes, carrots and lettuce in, since it is so shady.

We haven't cut our crepe myrtle back for about 6 years now, and it is thriving.

Dood. I am actually not bumming at the snow. I hate the heat. HATEHATE HATE! I don't know how you Southern Gardeners do it, when I lived in Virginia, I spent the entire summer indoors huddled over an air conditioning register.

My Motto? You can always put on another sweater, but there is only so much clothing you can take off before you get arrested.

Oh, it's been so lovely. A weetiny cold front is moving in, so I'll need to throw blankets over some of my shrubs, but it's supposed to move off by tomorrow night and get back into the 60s during the day. YAY.

Walking through all of that snow... That's a heck of a workout right there! Breaking fresh snow everyday? Whoa, too much work. That makes me think of Laura Ingalls and Almanzo coming in his sled to pick her up, hee!

but... i lived in Texas for a few months. (AFB, i'm an air force brat) and while the idea of a not freezing winter appeals... the horrible horrible summers don't. i mean, it gets to 90 here and its horridly humid, but it's better than in Redding (the place in northern CA where i grew up) where in July and August it gets to like 115 or 120, and sure "it's a dry heat" but what that means is fires fires and fires and everything evaporating and literally being able to cook eggs on the sidewalk and...

i wish there were someplace to live where both the weather and living costs were good. sigh.

Nieces would come stir it in shifts. Holy crap it looked good. I wish I knew how to cook like that. I'm skeered to try and make my own tamales... I want someone to come do it with me.
