Warren Jeff's rape conviction overturned by Utah's Supreme Court. Technicalities! On a freaking technicality. I hate everything about them. EVERYTHING. One of his attorneys that filed the appeal is a WOMAN. (An Issacson, which is an old Utah name, so that might explain that away.)

Texas? Y'all better get him extradited and locked up jiffy quick, or I'll lose my faith in my state.

In defense of why I think this is BS, for anyone that might entertain the thought of challenging my viewpoint (really. Don't. Not if you know what's good for you.) why is Manson in jail? He didn't ACTUALLY murder anyone, just ordered it to happen. This is the same damn thing, "joint-responsibility rule."

I am absolutely OUTRAGED by this. (Oh, and if you have no idea what this is all about, THIS IS WHAT THIS IS ABOUT. This scumbag. Hint: that's a WEDDING PHOTO.)

When I heard on NPR this morning that the Utah Supreme Court may overturn the conviction, I was sure I would see a post from you today.

This overruling is abhorant, disgusting and ridiculous. And since my old state of Arizona waived their rights to prosecute (OMG WHY?!), your state is next. I'd love to believe that Texas will eat him alive. Please tell me if that's true.

I wish I could say that I was surprised.

Given that it's Utah, I'm not surprised at all. Saddened, yes. But not at all astonished. I firmly believe that the men in charge of Utah and the LDS Church--if that isn't redundant--read The Handmaid's Tale and thought it was a how-to manual.

I would really, really like to send the wizard in my icon to Utah so that he could flambé the asses of, well, the asses who made the overturning of Jeff's well-deserved conviction possible.

True icon is true.

I really can't believe this. Then again, I'm almost not surprised. People forget that Roman Polanski Raped A Child, so of course Warren Jeffs gets a get out of jail free card. He just likes to marry children and make others marry children, s'all.

(I'm being extremely sarcastic if you couldn't tell. :X)

We've already convicted a few of the 11 arrested in the big YFZ raid. Texas has been trying to extradite Jeffs for almost 2 years now. WE WANT THIS ASSHOLE IN A HOLE IN THE GROUND.

I KNOW. I hate Utah. It never sticks, they are SUCH HYPOCRITS and LIARS. It's absolutely aggravating. I had hope when they threw him in the clink, but then, they threw him in 10 minutes away from Colorado City, so.... GAH.

Yahooo!!! I'm so glad they were convicted. I'm reading some of your older posts in 0hmyheck, so that's good to hear.

Also, any word on when your book is due out? Cause I want. :)

Out of curiosity, anyone know what is going on with his underaged wives?

I have a question for you about this. I heard that the mainstream LDS people (the ones who control everything in Utah) actually hate the polygamists. So I'm a little surprised that this happened.

Oh, they hate them, all right. They hate the negative press they bring onto the mainstream church. Otherwise, MORMONS STILL BELIEVE IN POLYGAMY. They still practice it (in a spiritual sense.)

NO ONE busts polygamist in Utah. They're everywhere, bold as brass. No one arrests them, interferes, etc. They just look away and let it continue. It's maddening. I've written loads about that - hit my polygamy tag if you're curious.

But this made the front page of the NYTimes. Certainly it's going to bring the mainstream church some negative publicity.

I completely agree with you on the so-called "reform" of LDS, incidentally; in their heart of hearts, I'm sure they would practice (non-spiritual, actual) polygamy, if it wasn't the breaking point for most outsiders' sense of decency and morality. But this decision seems like one of these things that's hard to reconcile with the tight lid that they keep on polygamy in the state. It will make national news, and it will garner a lot of raised eyebrows and questions about the sincerity of the mainstream Mormon rejection of polygamy. Judges generally have a fair bit of discretion in granting these "technicalities," so I'm just surprised that they risked the publicity to set the asshole free.
