First, I had a fabulous trip with dovil, who is still traveling the wilds of the US and Canada. I'll have a detailed post tomorrow with pictures.

Second, GAME OF THRONES, WHO IS IN? IMPORTANT! I have not read the books. I HAVE NOT READ THE BOOKS. That means that if you spoil me for ANYTHING, I will be very very angry about it. Be a dude, not a dick. Also, I'm sure someone is having the "but in the book they blah blah." You have to let that go. You have to. Movies are never going to be the same as the books, guys, it's impossible. Really. Airplanes are not submarines, but they both provide transportation, you feel me?

I'm recapping GoT over at Hey, Don't Judge Me as if it's the most awesome Dungeons and Dragons campaign ever, so there's that fun. Catch my recap of last night's episode here. And the President of GeekGirlCon.com has a great rebuttal (short and sweet) to the controversy about the NYT article regarding GoT here.

Also, Kassie is recapping Robin Year 1 & 2 for my comic book buds, and just started rewatching/talking about Smallville over there, too, so you have loads of reading material, my friends.

I am SO GLAD TO BE HOME. Also, I have all of the horses for Stallioncrest. OH. MY. GOD. This is going to be epic I tell you. EPIC HORSE SOAP OPERA, you heard it here first, lol.

As someone who plays D&D, I found your GoT review to be amazing. Since I haven't read the books I have no idea what the show is about besides sister-fucking and possibly little boy killing. Honestly that is enough for me, I did watch an entire season of Jersey Shore after all.

You have NO IDEA how grateful I am that the shutdown was avoided for that week. Not just for me, but for all of my flisters/RL buds that depend on a working gov't. YEESH. But yeah. Closed gate at the Grand Canyon? Noooooooo! ;)

Book 1 is over 800 pages... plus, (unsurprisingly) an appendix for the family trees and 'House' histories! (I'm guessing one of the later books simply has to have a map, this thing needs maps.)

What's different between the episode and the first 100 pages is minor and mostly just in staging.

Tyrion with the bedfull of whores is accurate enough for the character in general and probably there to give the chracter a bigger entrance. So no real quibble with that. Hard to begrudge a great character a better entrance.

And Dany's deflowering was pretty much the same only it came off as somewhat more consensual in the books (but still terrifying).

The books are interesting in that they have multiple POV's (different chapaters are the from the POV of different characters), so in the book we got the kid's view of discovering twincest in the towers (poor thing thought they were wrestling. The reader... um... did not. :)

Other POV characters (I have no idea of the order) are Ned (aka Boromir), Jon (Ned's bastard), Catelyn (Ned's wife), Arya (Ned's tomboy daughter), Sansa (Ned's 'pretty' daughter), Tyrion (the imp), and Dany (silver-hair) so we were allowed glimpses in several of their heads.

I am watching Game of Thrones! And am super excited after the first episode - it looks SO AWESOME. I have read the books, and will try to be careful. But it has been long enough that I'm not much inclined to "in the books they said blah blah blah and they left that out, OH NOES!" I usually try to treat television/movies and books as seperate-but-wonderful things.

I know that's a knee jerk reaction for most, it was for me, too. "But in the book she says, blah blah" etc. Books are so personal! But it's just impossible to take the material and change the delivery format into anything exactly as the reader had imagined. Not to mention the books are 800 pages long and an episode is 1 hour.

It just saves people heart break when they can figure that out, and it seems like we're like-minded here!
