Farewell, Sweet Prince
May. 8th, 2012 12:13 pmI had to say goodbye to someone very important to me last night.
I had to take Sasha Baron Cohen off my List of Five*. It's one of the harder things I've had to do. Natural childbirth? PFFT.
*List of Five: the five celebrities you get to have sexual relations with when married.
When even Jon Stewart is uncomfortable with your shenanigans, that means you're obnoxious in real life. Even though SBC is so, so smart, and clever...I think he might actually be a crazy person in real life (in the bad way.)
So now I have a Wild Card to fill.
CURRENT STANDINGS:
1. Viggo (always)
2. Daniel Craig
3. Sophia Vergara
4. Darren Criss
5. WILD CARD. Probably to be filled by Javier Bardem. (That's what she said! As she pointed at herself!) Or Jeff Goldblum. (I can't help it.)
SIGH.
Note: I am not actually a crazy person, and I do not believe that I will actually cross anyone off my list. Le sigh. ;D
ION, I decided yesterday that there is NO WAY I would put a Forum on HDJM. People just can't help themselves and turn into pedants and a-holes too quickly, and I am determined to keep HDJM a place of fun and smiles. I mean... there's an entire internet full of places to bitch about things, right? So. *hands*
Also, I've been beta reading
flaming_muse's latest fic and I get CHILLS thinking about how wonderful it is. And it's not even finished yet. Oh, is it going to be a treat.
Finally, a website I subscribe to sent me a cocktail recipe that I am dying to try out (and play with.)
The Redefined Daisy
1 1/2 oz base spirit (gin, tequila, rum, vodka)
3/4 oz cointreau OR elderflower liqueur (I'm seeing this everywhere. I approve)
3/4 oz fresh lemon juice (1 medium lemon)
2 barspoons of grenadine or raspberry syrup (that would be awesome with the cointreau)
soda water
fresh mint and raspberries for garnish.
Ice cubes in a shaker with first 4 ingredients, shake well, pour in glass, top with soda, swirl, and put in garnish. NOM. Hello, poolside delight. (My choices would be silver tequila, cointreau and raspberry syrup. Which...makes it almost a margarita, I know. But lemon isn't the same as lime. And I might swap out the soda water with mineral water. In fact, that's pretty much how I'm going to make one this weekend. O_O YAY PLANS.) :D
Other combo I'd use: light rum, elderflower liqueur, grenadine. And mineral water. I just don't want the calories, one, and I don't want the acerbic taste of soda water, typically.

Date: 2012-05-08 05:21 pm (UTC)I used to be so sure about my five, but I have no idea now. Let's see...probably Nathan Fillion; David Cook; hmmm...those are the only two I'm sure of. OH Idris Elba, of course. I would totally put Matt Bomer on there if he were not otherwise inclined. Hm. This is tougher than it used to be!

Date: 2012-05-08 05:29 pm (UTC)I need to have more recipes using grenadine. I made some last summer and realized I only need two or three Manhattans a year! The Shirley Temples have been delicious, but, again, only two or three a year. This refined Daisy sounds like I could drink it all Summer long.

I was concerned about how easily a forum could devolve.

Date: 2012-05-08 05:36 pm (UTC)IDRIS ELBA. He rotates in and out of that list, too. Rawr.
Matt Bomer is on my "List of gay men I would love to take a chance on turning straight for a night" hahahaha.

Date: 2012-05-08 05:37 pm (UTC)Doesn't that recipe look delicious?!
I like the idea in principle, but let's be honest: people on the net like to Be Right and make others see things their way. *shrug* Better to know before I set one up.

Date: 2012-05-08 08:55 pm (UTC)And hooray for Flaming Muse fic. I hope it's a long one. I hope it's an epic that will make Gone with the wind look like a novella. And can I ask you a question about beta-readers? (Hope you don't mind) - how do you go about getting a Glee beta reader? Do you know of any active sites where people are offering their services? I've tried the LJ comm, but not had any luck so far. Any advice or shoves in the right direction would be gratefully appreciated.
And finally, hooray for cocktails. I make a mean Blue Drink myself, because in my world cocktails should always be brightly coloured. Ooh, and I love a raspberry martini with sugar around the rim of the glass. Mmmmm. Cheers!

Date: 2012-05-08 09:17 pm (UTC)I do like keeping a Wild Card open, as well. LOL.
Re: betas. I fell into a wonderful relationship (both friendship and writing) with FM over the past year or so, but had asked trusted friends that were either pro-writers or grammar/character nazis to assist me. (FM pushes me like no one else has, so I would never consider using anyone else. But we're exclusive. ;D)
You might ask on Tumblr (or leave it as a question in K_B, either standalone or at the end of a fic post, that you're looking for one.)
Mmmm, cocktails! I used to make up a new drink for every Glee recap (based on the show's theme) but I think I was always drinking alone... I've made it into a cocktail book, I just need cover art to finish it out.
CHEERS! *clink*

Date: 2012-05-08 10:21 pm (UTC)I think I need a copy of that cocktail book, it sounds fab. I have a book that is a combination of cocktail recipes and classic film memorabilia. I like it because whenever I have a cocktail from it and look at the pictures, I feel like I'm Myrna Loy in the Thin Man. :D

Date: 2012-05-09 03:36 am (UTC)I blame many viewings of Jurassic Park, Earth Girls Are Easy, and the middle parts of The Fly (after the transport, but before everything starts falling off, when everything is awesome and shirtless) at an impressionable age.
