Halfway through my 5 mile run this morning my music went off and a call came through. It was about my son, who had collapsed in the bathroom and had been found by a teacher. Paramedics were called, I ran like the freaking wind to the house, got in the car and drove straight to him at the school, turned down the opportunity to pay a million bucks have a ride to the ER and drove him myself (it's a mile from the school), and had to almost carry my 6'1", 180 pound son into the ER.

After hours of tests - full battery of them - the conclusion is: they don't know. Could be low blood sugar, even though his wasn't really low. Could be low blood pressure, but his wasn't really low. Could be his medicines, who knows. Awesome. (And it doesn't matter, because jfc it is my child and I don't CARE about my looks, but I spent all day smelling like an armpit, sweaty and nasty in my workout clothes and I tried to give myself a wee sponge bath with antiseptic wipes because I was mortified that I had been working out and felt disgusting.)

He's home, fine, eating everything that isn't tied down and now I get to do my adrenaline dump after keeping it cool all damn day so HE wouldn't lose it. There was a massive car wreck that had the ER filled, and it was nerve-wracking sitting in our room and watching Care Flight stretchers race by and hear people crying and yelling in pain. UGH. :(

Tonight for Halloween I'm going as a frazzled mom who needs a drink. WAIT. A SLUTTY frazzled mom who needs a drink. There, now I'm keeping in tradition.

and I'm really unhappy that I posted about this on FB and only ONE FRIEND had anything sympathetic to say, thank you [livejournal.com profile] crazydiamondsue and everyone else made the equivalent of dick jokes. YEAH, I KNOW I GO FOR THE FUNNY, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT THINGS GET SERIOUS IN MY LIFE, FFS. I have FAMILY that was actively online at the time. Pah.

ACK.

How low was his BS? Maze had a nasty habit of fainting when it was low for him, but not really medically low. It's really variable from person to person...

OMG Stoney! HUGS to you. Since I'm not strictly speaking a Christian, I can't say a prayer. But I can light a candle and send positive energy your way. Hang in there, kiddo. Love is on the way....

Thinking of you all, and wishing your son, and you, the very best.

FB and family are unmixy things. Between the lack of grammar, and the very odd posts and replies or lack thereof, well, I get what you are saying.

Dude! That sounds so fucking scary!!! I'm so glad he seems okay!

For what it's worth I had a couple of fainting spells when I was in high school and scared the ever loving crap out of my mom. I spent two days in the hospital and took all the tests but they didn't find anything? They sent me home with instruction to be vigilant but nada.

I hope he is alright and I think your Halloween costume will be the BOMB. *hugs*

It could just be a teenage thing - I hope it is. None of you need more stress or uncertainty in your lives! Have a good few drinks, and I hope he stays fine from now on.

OMFG

The last thing you should worry about is the smell. Of you. Which probably wasn't much anyway.

Your little (enormous) boy is OK. That's the most important thing to hold on to in every way. Everything else can be investigated and sorted.

Now put yourself round a large glass of the nicest wine you can find. You have earned it.

Oh Laura, that is so scary.

Could he possibly have a virus? My nephew bagan feeling faint earlier this year, they finally figured out he had mono.

Or could he have been dehydrated? Artist sis in her youth used to pass out regularly due to dehydration. Thankfully nice strangers would always return her home.

Hopefully it will jusy be one of those unexplained mysteries of life, never to happen again.

HUGS!

Eek - what a day. I recommend that you start with the wine now! I hope they figure out the problem - it's so awful to be on pins and needles wondering WTH happened.

I had a similar emergency room experience over the summer where I was sitting there wishing like crazy that there was a shower I could use because I was just so gross, then feeling like an idiot about being self-conscious over personal hygiene when so much more important stuff was happening. But you just can't help yourself! After several hospital experiences over the summer I decided, as a public service, that in addition to the non-denominational chapel, hospitals should also have work out rooms and showers available for the waiting room nervous wrecks.

It was average, and average for him - that's what had the paramedics perplexed. But he told them how he was applying to nursing school, so they made a point of explaining everything they were doing and answering questions. :)

Ha, I can't help it, I was raised to be a Victorian Lady! (hahaha)

And you're absolutely right: it's all fine in the end, and I don't need to go borrowing trouble. *leans* Thank you for the common sense and instead of a glass of my nicest - I have really nice wine - I'll have a glass of my third nicest! IT'S STILL PRETTY NICE. And some stinky cheese to go with it! <3 <3

That was the first thing they checked for, you smart thing! An unchecked infection, the flu... All came back negative. He wasn't dehydrated, his blood sugar was fine...

I'm thinking it's possibly a hinky pill among the many meds he takes every day. Surely one will slip by on occasion? IDK otherwise. I take those hugs and send you some as well! <3

You clever minx, I HAVE started on the wine! Brilliant idea we had. :)

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one worried that I might be...odoriferous in public spaces. :D It's so silly, and yet.

Oh god, how scary! My uncle, who is a VERY similar shape and build to yr boy (or how I imagine yr boy will be when he is a Man) reportedly had inexplicable fainting spells a couple of times in his late teens - as did my friend's sister, who is about THE heartiest and healthiest sporty person I know. It is just weird.

Could he be a bit anaemic? I imagine they tested for that, but I can also completely see your hinky pill theory. Give him foods. Give you wine. Mmmmm wine. *hugs*

Also, I was in Germany last weekend for my kind-of-mother-in-law's birthday and in Germany they have red champagne. I thought of your holy horror while experiencing my own.
