"It's the most wonderful time....of the year!"

First day of school.  My house is quiet. I read my paper front to back without telling people to stop flicking/yelling/punching each other.

My son threw up before we left.  He got more and more quiet as we got to the school.  Saw a buddy, ran off after kissing me. He visibly gulped when he saw h is pretty little teacher.  My daughter was up at 6 this morning, bed made, everything ready to go, hands folded in her lap.  She saw me coming up the stairs and asked if it was time to get ready to leave.  There was much squeeing and bouncing as she saw her friends at the entrance.

I have my house to myself!  My beautiful flagstone patio is calling to me to bring a cup of coffee and enjoy the birds, the breeze, the silence.

I CAN DO ANYTHING TODAY!!!!!  WHOOPIE!!!

I remember teaching... I taught for one year: 13 year olds, and improvisational theater. I had over 40 students in each class. Never again! School used to start after Labor Day, but they keep pushing it further and further back. Okay!!

Kind of jacked up, huh? But not from where I'm sitting. I think they have them go earlier because it gets so hot there's not much more you can do, other than swim. We are brown brown brown from doing nothing but for the past few weeks. Thank god for water.

That kid. Everyone has told him how important 3rd grade is, so he was really nervous. I don't know why: he's at the top of his class and is brilliant. Just first day jitters. My preschooler starts after Labor Day, as well. Free at last, free at last! (Hee!)

Mmmm. Lindsey.

But when do your kids get out? We get out the Friday before Memorial Day (end of May). I'd love to start a little later, and stay a little later. (And travel in August and escape the Texas heat!)

the school year runs from september to july over here, with 12 weeks of holiday during term time. If only I was rich enough for boarding school J/K I think :)

We have about the same schedule, just different starting and finishing times.

Oh, the joy of boarding school. Learn how to do drugs the proper way, have sex early, break the rules more effeciently... At least, all of my friends who went to boarding school did. Hee!

Now MILITARY academy... Ha!
