THE GREAT WRITE MEME
Feb. 22nd, 2006 09:40 amI've been meaning to jump in, there have been some great discussions over there, aside from the three or four different troll-esque remarks I've come across.
My goal truly is to be a better writer, or a better entertainer, take your pick. Don't leave me hanging, y'all.
okay, who is going to start the betting pool on how many "u r meeen!" comments I get? Sigh. One of the reasons I didn't put my name in yet, honestly.
For those in the dark: CONCRIT YOUR HEART OUT. Sign in anonymously. There is no IP logging. There is nothing to gain but a stable of better writers!! Go! Fly, my pretties!

Date: 2006-02-22 04:06 pm (UTC)Dude. BWAH! It's coming, I SWEAR. I'm all invested in this NON PORN sailor/swashbuckling fic currently, but your tale is COMING.
(Actually, TKP had some good points about how I switch POV, so it was incredibly helpful.)

Date: 2006-02-22 04:22 pm (UTC)(I've been learning all kinds of naval stuff - mostly 18th century information, but can say fore and aft and starboard with confidence now! Your icon is purdy.)

And between you and me, what really makes this ship concept cool isn't how it's chock full of futuristic technology. No.

Date: 2006-02-22 05:04 pm (UTC)(I knew next to nothing about the wooden ships, but it's incredibly interesting how FILTHY they were, life onboard, etc. None of which I'm using for the story, but it pays to be prepared. Heh.)
I don't know much about modern ships - my "can hang with the guys" cred is that I know about hand guns/shotguns and have rebuilt a car engine. Oh, and can drink most dudes under the table. But I have a sweet rack.
I have no idea where I'm going with all of this. It was the ship, dammit. It calls to me...

That is some serious cred. Random thought. If I spent an entire week responding to comments and posts on LJ exclusively using "The Todd" persona, how many people (out of 125) would defriend me?
Also, is it RPF if you follow up Spike/Faith porn with Faith/Smoove B porn?

Date: 2006-02-22 05:20 pm (UTC)Smoove B. Damn.
I would laugh my ASS off if you adopted the persona of The Todd. Good way to solve that pesky time-management issue with a monster flist, too. :D

Date: 2006-02-23 06:31 am (UTC)And I didn't get an email notification for this, so AWESOME!
(did it just randomly post on a page? I'll go find the most scathing rip-fest and assume it's from you,'kay?)
:D

Date: 2006-02-23 06:56 am (UTC)You goof-ball! I don't write cross-overs!? What??
And it's funny... I think I hide behind the serious stuff because the funny is what comes naturally to me. I have to make myself write the more serious fics, and it feels weird to me - like I'm trying to emulate another person's style, or write to please the public, or something.
WHY CAN'T EVERYONE LIKE DICK JOKES?? (thanks for chiming in, Pat.)
