*tumbleweeds*
Jul. 18th, 2006 08:34 amWell - I kinda bowed out of the discussion in my LJ this weekend for unforeseen reasons, so please know that if I didn't reply to you, it's simply because I was with people I loved. Ahahaha! I mean, I was spending time with the fam. I don't love them. (I totally do.) Eventually I'll get back to each of you, promise. In other news, I got a Vox account (weird: I asked them for one, and they GAVE it to me. Huh.) which is here. So excited that I'm STONEY there, and no numbers, wooo! I'm primarily going to use it for books, random thoughts, and music. OOoh! For those of you who have Vox accounts, did you see that you can upload SONGS in your library?? I can't say how much I love that feature. I'll be using that to the max, for sure. Still keeping this journal for fannish/social things. (I haven't added anyone to my "neighborhood" there, as I don't want to be intrusive. If you want to add me, I'll add you. How simple is that? :) )
I soaked up the entire series of The Office (US) on Friday, and can I say how much I love that show?? It might replace 3/4ths of the hole created by Arrested Development leaving the air, and I don't say that lightly. I can replace Michael (Steve Carrell) with my old boss, Barb and not lose a beat. THAT WAS MY OLD BOSS. (The one who showed me her lack of panties, and who falls down every Christmas. Including the dancing, omg.) Dwight (Rainn Wilson - my favorite character on the show, I think) is a crueler/sharper version of BEM, the guy in my old office who wondered "who doesn't want a perfectly good arm?"
Things I like MORE about the US version than the UK: the fellow office members are fleshed out. In the UK version, you had a very small cast of people with lines. Almost all of the office workers get screen time in the US version, and it makes it more enjoyable - it's not just waiting for Tim/Dawn, er, I mean Jim/Pam to get together. Creed, the older man who remains an enigma - and a scary one at that - was Jim from my old office. Jim was a Vietnam vet - chopper jockey - who just had odd habits and stories to make your hair curl. He kept slippers and ... other things in his desk drawer that he refused to talk about. Heee! Oh, I love characters. THE OFFICE. Start with Season 2 and soak it up. (And the Jim character on the show? That's the guy on my icon, for the record. I am so in love with him and Pam, I could just sigh myself to death.) ...and I wrote fic. I'll post it later. I think it might be my new favorite fandom, because EVERYONE IS FUNNY. (And I wouldn't sniff at Scrubs/Office crossover fic with JD and Jim. Or Dwight and The Todd. I'm just saying.)

Date: 2006-07-18 01:51 pm (UTC)Are there *any* comedy shows in the new lineups this fall? All I can think of off the top of my head is the Matthew Perry vehicle, which I can't remember the name of. But every new show other than that seems to fit the "OMG, SOMEONE'S BEEN KIDNAPPED!" freaking-out bomb-squad types who are unravelling a mystery that reaches to greater depths than they imagine and further up the chain of command in the U.S. government than anyone had ever dreamed!
Not that those shows are bad, but, like, how many of them can we take?

Date: 2006-07-18 06:31 pm (UTC)There was humour in the screener pilot that somehow made its way on to my hard drive. A guy in Japan discovers he can 'warp the space time continuum' (teleport) and his first attempt is into the ladies' room at his local bar. But he does it! Then, on the train to work the next day, he manages to shift himself to Times Square.
The teenage girl who is indestructible (or at least very quick at healing/regenerating) seems to have spent the entire time, since the discovery, trying to kill herself.
It was an interesting beginning, so here's hoping.
I'm also hoping to see more (than the screener pilot *koff*) of Jericho (http://www.tv.com/jericho-2006/show/58068/summary.html), but that's mostly cos I love me a good post-apocalyptic nightmare. :D

Date: 2006-07-18 02:03 pm (UTC)I missed Eureka AGAIN last night. I'm hoping it's funny... I'm not betting the house on it, though.

Date: 2006-07-18 05:27 pm (UTC)Yay for liking The Office. It took me way too long to stop being a snob and give the show a chance and now I love it. I completely agree that the US version makes much better use of its supporting characters then the UK version did. I think my favorite character on the US version is Toby and he's only been in a handful of episodes. I remain a bigger Tim person then Jim person. It took Jim a long time to grow on me, I think he's the most different from his UK counterpoint but I love that he can be so sarcastic and so mean and yet still be the first person to do something nice for Michael.
And even though I haven't watched the episode in weeks I still can't hear Billy Joel's name without Dwight singing "Ryan started the fire" getting stuck in my head.

ROE. RYAN STARTED THE FIRE!! Heeeeee!
As to Vox, it took about four days to hear back? I didn't think I would, so yay! (And ditto on the snobbery thing. What was I thinking?? And... I have a massive MASSIVE crush on Jim right now. I loved Tim, but Jim is the exact guy I always fall for. :D )

Date: 2006-07-18 08:41 pm (UTC)I can wait four days. Hopefully. Or I'll just start begging people who have them for invites.
Jim is exactly like every guy I've ever been good friends with w/o being attracted to.

Date: 2006-07-18 09:55 pm (UTC)I saw on your Vox page that you had some book covers pictured which looks neat. Could this turn into sort of like a book club kind of thing, where people discuss books?

Date: 2006-07-18 10:02 pm (UTC)As to Vox, I've heard the same, and while I'm still not used to how it works (granted, I've only posted the once) I like the idea of the library and the audio clips. I think I'll use it for just a basic journal, or to record my thoughts on books/music/movies, but keep this LJ, too.
(The book thing is neat, huh?)

Yay, Jim/Pam!
