Okay, that's a lousy subject header. But! Today is a glorious day for my fellow Texan AND Leo, st_salieri! I hope that YOU have a better day! Incidentally, she wrote a fic that had me squirming in a GOOD way (and it was her first slash fic, too!) It's Starting From Nowhere. Between her and entrenous88, they're getting me interested in Xander/Riley, and I don't READ them. Except when they write it, apparently... Oh, speaking of recs, EntreNous wrote a HILARIOUS and "Feels Like An Episode" fic Cherry Boys. SERIOUSLY. It's a Spander fic for non-spanderers, like me. Or for hard-core Spanderers. Or people who like funny and well-written fic. Read and feed, people! st_salieri? Have a FANTASTIC day today!

Now. Who watches "Project Runway?" So Keith was KICKED OFF. Keith, who was the most talented of all, and the biggest asshole. WAIT - was he the most talented? How do we know he didn't really use his PATTERN BOOKS to help make his creations so impeccable? For those who don't sew (and I used to have my own sewing business) that's like taking Strunk & White to the SATs. The point is to see if YOU have the knowledge, not using a crutch.

A pattern book is TOTALLY an unfair advantage. If you're going to make a pair of extremely fitted trousers (like he did), a pattern book will show you the fastest and most efficient way to put in darts, how to make a Hollywood-waistband - like their trousers did - the zipper... GOD zippers suck. Not to mention collars, armholes.. Yes, you can lay muslin (like they do - that white flimsy material? They're making their own patterns) on a form and pin and mark and cut and pin and ... But if you have a book that gives you shortcuts, estimates, etc., you have the advantage of not wasting time, of not wasting material, and getting a MUCH smoother finish. (Think of Bradly and his diaper-bagged trouser seat.)

And I have to say, I can totally see who knows how to sew and who doesn't. Those machines are PRECISION machines - and there have been some SLOPPY hems. Yes, they're pressed for time. But if the bottom isn't finished right (or if the designer doesn't know how to make a handkerchief hem/invisible hem on a dress that's more or less gauze, it hangs wonky. I'm totally down with Kayne - the boy can SEW, sequin loving aside, Uli - my lord, she makes ethereal clothes! - and Michael, because he LOVES how women are shaped, and makes sexy clothes. Plus, he has NO training, and I love a guy from out of nowhere story. I like Alison, too, but I can't tell about her overall skill as a seamstress. Yes, I'm a nerd. I do like how she has a very clear style and vision, but it all is coming off the same to me. Black, white, asymmetrical hems, random pieces to give it a ragged look. Can she do anything ELSE?

And Heidi is totally bugging me with her dramatic pout approach to "hosting." But whatever. She's a pretty hangar.

And I overslept today, which means it'll be too hot to exercise this morning, which means I'll not wake up properly, and I'm already feeling grumpy and weird, like I forgot to put pants on. *checks* And I've done that before. Walked out the door without PANTS on. I never claimed to be the smartest person, people. (Alright, I was 8. Still.) I can't sleep at night - stayed up watching War of the Worlds and I don't care that he's insane (and he is) Tom Cruise was fantastic in that movie, and I don't wanna hear it. He's a good actor. He's just batshit insane in real life. So I can't sleep, my house feels dirty to me, but I have ZERO motivation to clean it, Mr. S gets home tonight, and we're planning a big weekend, and I just want him HOME and I want a maid or housekeeper, and I want to sleeeeeeeeep.

Which means I'll have to mop (again! I mopped yesterday! What are those kids DOING in my kitchen???) today, and scrub bathrooms and vacuum and... BAH. All of which REALLY means I'll be playing Mahjongg late into the day and scrambling to clean house when Mr. S is driving back from the airport like a naughty kid. I'm so lame. (I bet you think this song is about you?)

Maren and I were all hepped up about last night's episode because we can't stand Keith. I was hoping he would be the one kicked off and he WAS. The heavens opened and I swear I heard the Hallelujah Chorus. Although, I was secretly hoping he would be kicked off because he was a robot or something. But still, no more Keith! He was a good designer but like you said, how do we know his great designs weren't because of the book?

You would? FOr Heidi? I have to say, her manner of "performing" is driving me NUTS and making me not like her. BUT. She's married to Seal, who is so awesome I can't stand it, which means she must be alright. But I do like looking at her, so...

And Keith is an ass, yes, but he made FABULOUS clothing. But yes, total asshole. (You know who I don't like? Laura. She makes the same thing, just different material. She's irritating, imo. It's clear she likes Caroline Herrara's designs - everything looks like an homage. Heh.)

SO. BIG QUESTION, LEE. Are you watching the US version of The Office??? (It's RIGHT UP YOUR ALLEY. Funny, adorkable, hilarious, and mock worthy. What's not to love????)

I freakin' love Heidi and Seal together. I love how they love each other, you know? BIG SAP AM I. But yeah, I think Heidi is *gorgeous* so based on purely superficial reasons, so gay for Heidi.

OMG YES! Maren and I were talking about that last night. What drives me crazy about Laura (which I do like her style of clothes but it is very repetitive--mix it up, woman!) are the constant mentions of her children and how hard her life is. I just know she's a "Mountain Brook mom" -- one of those stay-at-home moms who have live-in nannies and maids who raise the children while they live it up, doing lunch with the girls and playing tennis all the time. I think stay-at-home moms DO NOT get the respect and admiration they deserve, but the women who *don't* raise their kids and shove them off on someone else give the others a bad name. Argh, soapbox rant done.

I'm trying to watch it--so many people on my flist are all IT'S THE BEST SHOW EVER OMG! so I want to watch it (and HELLO. Steve Carrell, have my babies plz). I adore the UK version so I was a little reluctant at first to watch the NBC one, but I see I HAVE TO CHANGE MY WAYS. If something is adorkable *and* mock-worthy, I'm so there.

Yes, yes. She has help, are you kidding me? Upscale NYC mom with 5 kids (yes, we heard you had 5 kids, enough) she TOTALLY has live in help. Which... YEAH. ANyone can raise a shitload of kids with outside help!!! Some of our close family friends had 10 kids, they were incredibly well off (I'll put it this way: none of the kids a) shared a room or b) wore hand-me-downs. Ever.) and they had TWO housekeepers, AND her MIL lived there. Oh, and they three had their own quarters, too.

So anytime Jana mentioned how hard it was with 10 kids, I scoffed. She just ran a mini-corporation, you know?

TANGENT. Laura = not doing it for me. (And thanks for the stay-at-home shout out. I've had people look at me with PITY because I gave up my career. Um... excuse me? Sorry for being RESPONSIBLE FOR MY OFFSPRING'S WELL BEING.)

I loved War of the Worlds. I saw it in the theater and you would have had to pry me from my seat with a crowbar, that's how intense the movie was for me. And yes, Tom Cruise is a fantastic actor...he really brings it to the screen in a BIG way. Now if he wasn't such an asshat in real life...I'd love him even more than I already do. Have you seen A Few Good Men? Also an example of very good Tom Cruise acting. :)

Eee, thank you! I'm celebrating by totally blowing off a workshop I was supposed to attend today. And since I'm at home I'm SANS MY PANTS, although I suppose I'll have to put some on for my eventual Starbucks run.

Why are we not seeing more of Michael on Project Runway? I like his stuff so far, and I like the little partnership he has going on with Laura, which is adorable. (And yeah, I like Laura. She totally needs to start showing more versatility, but I dig her and her utter disgust with Keith's asshole-ishness.) Michael's featured heavily in the promos for next week, which is making me nervous.

And Keith! Seriously, his shit was pretty good so far, even though he's a complete jerk. I've been so impressed by the way his clothes always fit his model like a dream, and the thought that he used a crutch to do it? Pffft. He deserved to be unceremoniously booted.

Keith - GOD, such a drama queen. And way too cocky, and I used to make allowances for his attitude, because his outfits were FLAWLESS. But how do we know that he hasn't been using the books?? You'd be very proud of me, I've been walking every morning for the past three days. For some reason this summer, I've been waking up at 6:30 almost every day, even though I wasn't teaching until night. So now I figured, I'm up anyway, might as well get my ass out bed and get a little bit of exercise (before the sun comes out and gives me heat exhaustion). I'm hoping it will rub off on crazydiamondsue.

Love love *love* me some Project Runway!

I'm a total fangirl about the whole thing, too, from watching the show to reading all the sites to waiting breathlessly for Tim's podcasts. . . they all make me very happy.

I'm glad Keith's gone, though I would have liked to see more of his clothes. I think he did amazing work, even if he was a complete and total asshole. The rules really do apply to him, as well as to everyone else, yes, something that I hope he's actually learned -- this could be a really good wakeup call for him.

I'm glad Bonnie's gone too -- she was an easily forgettable designer. I'm *so* glad that Robert's still there! I don't know if he'll make it to the top 3 or 4, but I like I've seen so far of him.

Like you -- I've done a lot of sewing in my time. I agree that Angela's only saving grace is that she actually can sew. (OMG the horizontal pintucking in that extremely short amount of time. . . Much amazement.)

You may, sometime, want to check out this site -- it's the official fan site for Project Runway -- so they get lots of attention (and email!) from contestants this season and other seasons, as well as from Tim (who I ADORE)

Jeeeeeezus. He's gotten all sorts of attention, and the boy will be working in NO TIME FLAT. I mean, hello Kate Moss! The fashion world loves a fallen angel. As for Robert, he looks like a Teddy Bear. I just worry about how difficult the transition from doll clothes to people clothes is proving for him. I mean, doll clothes are HARD to make, no lie. But female bodies aren't easy to dress well. I'm rooting for him, if only because he and Kayne are ADORABLE buds.

And HURRAH for you knowing what I meant with the sewing!! Even with double needles, it's so hard. And hers were PRISTINE. I was amazed by that whore outfit from the doggie challenge. Mostly because OH MY GOD, ENOUGH WITH THE POUFS, but also because that bodice was FLAWLESS. I don't want her to be good. :)

I'm not watching as it airs, but right now I'm watching S2. Project Runway, I mean. Why is it so addictive? Anyway the winner has a boutique in Houston right by my university so now I have to check it out.
