Continued from here. (And the last post today, swear.  Man, I'm spammy lately.  Sorry...)

So the power of the blog.  Every blog I read had the details right: brand new Escalade, brother and wife with him, tens of thousands in cash, laptops, wigs, passports.  And the Feds let the other two go!!  I cannot believe they're not being charged with aiding/harboring a known criminal.  It has to be a set-up.  HAS TO BE.

Other point that's interesting to me: they were pulled over on I-15, a few miles north of Las Vegas.  Northbound.  Which means they were headed back towards Colorado City via St. George and highway 59.  (Where that road crosses state lines, to the east is Hilldale, Colorado City.)  Organizing a mass exodus?  Maybe.  There's been a flurry of activity since the "dedication" of the temple in Eldorado, TX, a new enclave funded by Jeffs' controlling interest in the UEP.  (I almost called it the UEB - the name they use on Big Love.  hahaha.)  Apparently a lot of the local business in Hilldale/Colorado City (it's the same place, it just exists on the state line) have been relocating to Mesquite, NV, which is on the other side of the gorge that separates Utah from NV.  It's almost Nowheresville.  It's where Utah Mormons sneak off to do a little gambling without being caught.  Or, you know... where polygamists sneak off to start anew.

Mostly, I'm just shocked they let his brother and wife go.

But I was REALLY HAPPY to see how the FBI and DPS congratulated each other and didn't have a pissing contest about this.  I fully expect to see a domino effect in the FLDS.  A series of arrests should be around the corner, or I'll be hopping mad.    Notice how the Mormon's newspaper mentions he had a Book of Mormon on him.  Let's see them continue to distance themselves from polygamy.

I'm just glad they got this guy without a fight. And I wouldn't care if his harem consisted of consenting adults but it doesn't.

Thanks for those earlier Katrina links.

You're right - it's not consenting adults. And you bet on those links!
*hugs*

They...they let them go?!?!? WTF, people! I'm sure they'll be picking it apart tonight on Larry King. Heh.

I can't believe they let them go. Let's hope you're right and it's all part of some genius master plan. Unlike, say, the Jon Bonet Ramsy arrest OMG.

You're my Mormon connection, baby!

I know!! My jaw dropped when I was watching the press conference and the nice FBI man said they let them go. And all the newsmen started screaming questions immediately after.

Oooh, Larry King! i bet you're right!

Wow. It's so fascinating, in a horrid way. Wild that they actually nabbed him at last!

It really, really is fascinating. I mean, for me it is because I know the families involved, the places... But the whole concept of their religion/domination is just astounding. And that it's gone on for as long and it has!

Interesting that BC is one of the places listed as a place the FLDS has spread; maybe the groups of women with Angel bangs and shopping carts full of babies and canned goods that I've seen in Fred Meyer's are just heading up I-5 and dropped off for provisions.

Julia, saw another group just before we left for Montana

Uh... yeah. And how much do I love you for knowing about "Angel Bangs!" That particular place in BC (Bountiful is the name of the town) has been there for a while. In the 70s - 90s it was used as a re-education camp for wayward women. o_0

All the "Malls of America" that you'll see from the Wasatch Front up through Banff are owned by one of the oldest plyg families.

The police have been investigating the situation in Bountiful for 2 years, and I heard that the report will be out soon. There is a big controversy in part because the school in Bountiful gets provincial funding, although they don't follow provincial curriculum. Polygamy is illegal here too, and there is a lot of pressure on the government to do something about the situation in Bountiful. Because it's so close to the US border, there is a lot of cross border activity..young women being sent from one community to the other, according to news stories I've read.

Heh - I blew a tire on I-15 just on the outside of the gorge and limped my way to Peppermill casino on the edge of Mesquite. Yeah. It's a craphole.

And is that area really booming? I know that St. George is... Last I lived there, the Speedway had been finished, but was still pretty out there. North Las Vegas wasn't the best of places to be, then there was Nellis Air Force base, and then a whole lotta nothin'.

I'm watching Larry King right now - they have a LOT on this guy. I don't think he's going anywhere. (And I forgot that Larry King's latest wife is Mormon! Heh. He has some inside scoop!)
