Oh Patrick Swayze. Hahahaha. Repopulate the earth with Caroline in the City! (I have an unholy love for the movie Red Dawn. It's unexplainable.) Jericho: Liked. Not in love, but liked. It didn't hit me like the first ep of Lost did, but then, I bailed out of lost after the Dirty Rotten Sister Fucker died, so... Hmm. Plus, it has Gerald McRaney! I love him. Major Dad! Simon! Crazy!Evil Hearst! His character was a bit too "PAX Network" for me, so I hope that CHANGES. Give him GRIT, writers. The show loses points for putting children in peril in the first 20 minutes. (But when the kids cried on the bus at the sick girl?? Okay, I'm not EVEN going to act like that didn't upset me.
swmbo mentioned in her post that they lose points for not having a parent on that bus, too. Those were under 3rd grade kids. There would be PARENT HELPERS, good point, Swm.
I'll stick it out a few more eps to see if it gets grittier. The empty Prison bus was a nice touch. (Man, I love end of the world stuff - as long as it isn't "Left Behind" type fare.)
Exercise: I am feeling SO GOOD. Today was 10.82 miles, and I didn't even NOTICE my feet or muscles until mile 8, and I feel strong, strong, strong. I need to push it to 12-14 miles this weekend, and now that I have new shoes (omg, SO STIFF and SO GOOD) I am feeling GOOD about that. I looked down at my legs and they feel so toned and HEALTHY. The scale isn't moving, but I am. Hooray stick-to-itiveness.
WHY I AM EXERCISING LIKE A CRAZY PERSON. Folks, the Susan G. Komen foundation is a fantastic group. Every drop in the bucket helps, and for those that have already made donations, I appreciate your support SO MUCH! (Summary: I'm walking 60 miles in ONE WEEKEND to raise money for breast cancer research. Care to donate? Sure you do! *beams*)
Today: I make bread. Mmmmm! Yay, fall! Tonight is Hatch chili peppers stuffed with Tilapia, jack cheese, and GOODNESS. I am in a TERRIFIC mood! *beams positivity to all of you!!*
Tonight: The Office season 3 premiere!! Oh my GOD I am so excited for this. I love it when shows end on cliffhangers like it did. LOVE IT. I mean, I hate the wait, sure, but I like CARING about a show. If you aren't watching this show, you are really missing out. Funny, poignant, achy in places, and CLEVER, omg. I have nothing of import to say, and I am BOUNCING in my chair, so I'll just click that little button at the bottom...
(eta) Whoops. I meant to mention that I watched The Color Purple last night, and while it's all very "Oscar Nom, huh? No, no, just making a movie. To win AN OSCAR." I ALWAYS CRY when her long lost son Adam says "Mama?" Every. Time. And when her daughter cries. And when she's hugging her sister. And when Shug Avery sings "God Is Tryin' To Tell You Something." My LORD, that song is awesome.I need an mp3 of that NOW. DONE!

Date: 2006-09-21 04:18 pm (UTC)Jericho was... decent. It has DEFINITE potential. Got a bit preachy and forced people on the edge of their seat with some cheap tricks, but it could really be good if they make it edgy and gritty, which... I think it might be. We'll see.
(Def. a pissed off badger. But not. Ha!)

Date: 2006-09-21 04:42 pm (UTC)Well, "Red Dawn" is in that low down part of the queue where I'm not sure I'll ever actually get to it, but in that "Stoney told me to watch this" way.
Are there ACTUAL wolverines? (Because that could totally be the tipping point).

You are officially my go-to-the-gym inspiration for the day.
Cheers!

Date: 2006-09-21 04:40 pm (UTC)While we aren't devotees of The Office, we certainly care about a few shows enough to relish that wait between seasons. Very much looking forward to the beginning of Battlestar Galactica, for example. Not so much Lost, although we are hanging in there and will pick it up again to see if we want to continue for another season. We just finished up a season of The 4400, another serial type of show that ended on a cliffhanger and oh, it'll hurt to wait. I love the arc-driven shows that tell a story over the course of several months. There seem to be several new ones this fall.

Date: 2006-09-21 04:45 pm (UTC)I'm dl'ing BSG RIGHT NOW to see what all the fuss is about. I'd say 60% of my flist is into it, so... I'll at least give it a try! I liked 4400, but it came on at a TERRIBLE time, and then I forgot about it! I'm terrible for remembering when new shows come on. I'm out of TV habit, save for The Office, Deadwood (alas! 'Tis over) and Project Runway.
Anne it is WONDERFUL here today. Cool and rainy (which is exciting for us) and definitely FALL-ESQUE. I'm all a'twitter! (you wanna come on some walks with me while you're here? *g*)

Date: 2006-09-21 05:03 pm (UTC)The "good show on at a terrible time" thing is why I love our Tivo so much. We have a friend who is one of those "early adopters" for every new technology that comes down the pike, and he urged us for at least two years to get Tivo. At first I resisted, thinking this was just a case of "oooh, shiny new tech" like all the other new tech toys Rusty wanted us to join him in buying. But he swore it would be the bestest thing ever, and one year I splurged and bought it for Ron for Christmas. It was the best present I ever got him. (And for me too, heh.) Before I got it I thought it would make us become couch potatoes and we'd wind up watching more TV than before, and get all addicted... But it hasn't. We probably watch less than before, because we don't get sucked into new shows just because they happen to be on at the time we are available to watch TV. I just love the fact that it frees us from the schedule thing, you know?
I definitely want to come on walks with you, if you have the patience to be limited to my feebleness. I'm never going to keep up with even a 10th of your energy! When Ron's dad (the marathoner) comes for a visit, Ron will go running with him and when they come back to the house, Ron's all tired but his dad goes off for a second (and longer) go. Maybe you and I can do something like that!

Date: 2006-09-21 05:12 pm (UTC)I WISH we had a TiVo. For some reason the man that set up our Dish said we couldn't have a DVR box, which... Hmm. I don't buy that. As a result, I'm alllll over BitTorrent.
I figured I'd take a break from my big walks that weekend you're here - something short and pleasant? Say, 3 - 4 miles? *g* Strolls, really. Mostly, I just don't want you to feel like you're sitting around bored, you know? There won't be two little boys to chase after! Heee.

You know, unfortunately, I bet he's right about the Dish. Tivo has to control the thingy that controls the TV. In our case it's the cable box. So in your case it would be the Dish. Since Tivo is built with cable boxes in mind, and not satellite dishes, I think it wouldn't work. That's too bad, but since you're a BitTorrent Master I guess you've got that covered. It's just a shame you have to go to all that trouble -- but then again, it's free!
Boredom? I don't envision that being a problem with you (and Sue) around! Walks are so good for talking, though. Why is that, I wonder? Are the feet directly connected to the mouth? Is that why we put our "foot in our mouth" so often? Ha!

Date: 2006-09-21 05:17 pm (UTC)I'm pretty tough skinned - probably from all that bare-foot walking in my garden. I'm southern to the core. :D I've noticed that what socks I wear makes a big difference in my foot health, too. I use Thorlos for short, intense runs, and balega ultrathins for long distance. They have the added bonus of arch-support woven in, and OH MAN it's like a foot massage as you walk. Niiiiiiiice.

Maybe there were no parent volunteers because they didn't get their criminal background checks done in time. NOT THAT THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME.
And what the hell, while I'm here. Re: your parenting rant. Our parenting styles are very similar, in that we rock, but did you ever notice that nobody ever comments saying what a crappy parent they are? All those comments were like, "Those parents suck! And so do their bratty kids!" But surely not all LJers are fantastic parents. Do you think the overly permissive ones read your rant and muttered, "They just don't understand my little Phoenix's sensitive disposition"?
Now, if you'll excuse me, Mr Posh needs to be breastfed. Heh.

Date: 2006-09-21 05:22 pm (UTC)Oooh, last season of The Office was EXCELLENT. So funny and snarky. And I have NO IDEA where the other Simon went off to. I DO know that Simon (not Simon, SIMON) married Delta Burke and stayed cute.
AHAHAHAH! I was TOTALLY BARRED FROM HAND DELIVERING SNACKS because I didn't have my criminal background checked. Which is good, because I was going to MURDER THOSE KIDS. ANd possibly eat them. FOR MY SNACK.
I totally wanted someone to say what a crappy parent they are. I'll go first: I SUCK. But I'm way better than almost everyone EVER. Haha. *breastfeeds THE WORLD*

As for the walking, I wish you the very very very best of luck. Gods above, and below, know I really should be doing the same thing, but I just can't work up the wherewithall to actually get out there and walk after being on my feet for 8-12 hours a day.
So, in closing, how do we get some of this bread? I'm not above the selling of my person and/or soul.
*grabs you and hugs you and twirls you 'round like a stripper in an upside down helicopter*
And now I'm off to Picklefish to play trivia with the college kids and professors.
HA!! Imagine it! Two weeks ago, a group of non-college students/college drop outs whooped ass an some current college students AND their proffesors. Bring on the pop culture questions, Alex.
