I'm WALKIN' here! [/New Yorker]

Miles walked Fri-Sun = 30.6
Want to get involved? You can donate (to either me or a general donation) or you can look for walks in your area. Also: CHECK YOUR BOOBS. The sooner found, the sooner that lump is gone. Age, lifestyle, family history has no bearing, ladies. (And gents.) We're all susceptible!
A big shout out to
crevette who's 3 Day is this weekend. She's who inspired me to get involved, and her posts about 'ain't no funk like a 3 day funk, 'cause a 3 day funk don't stop!' inspired me to get the prescription deodorant. Hahahaha! *cheers her on*
It is hot and dry and no breeze today (that's how it feels, at least) so forgive me for not being peppy. I'm officially out of pep today. Lookin' for some pep, should you find some to spare. Or pink lemonade flavored Gatorade. I'd take that.
[ETA] Oh, forgot to mention that our local High School and UT are keeping my faith in football. COWBOYS, YOU ARE ON NOTICE. That was ABYSMAL. And I completely forgot to mention
a2zmom's birthday this weekend, so I fail at everything. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROBIN! *hearts you tunz, underline, underline*
- Miles walked Today = 10.2 + 4 in another hour
- Pairs of socks = 5 (I've started changing them half-way through. >_<
- Blisters = none. Woot! Let's hear it for letting your feet hit hobbit proportions... I long for a pedicure.
- Deodorant sticks = 3. Have moved to prescription strength. TMI?
- Number of cars that have almost run me over while walking in a protected crosswalk = 3
- Number of drivers on MOTHER FUCKING CELL PHONES = 3
- Number of hoods I have banged on after being honked at by said drivers on their cell phones = 1
- People I'm walking for (at last count) = 43 and still counting. :) One of my flisters is getting a complete mastectomy this Friday. THIS IS A WAKE UP CALL, yes indeedy.

Date: 2006-10-09 05:02 pm (UTC)Just think... this time next week you will be DONE! And hoefully getting a massage and pedicure and drinking many pounds of margaritas!

Date: 2006-10-09 05:05 pm (UTC)And my life back.
It's not great, but it's about 10 degrees cooler than it was, plus the humidity. I'm just bummed because when I looked last night the forecast was 58/79 which would have been PERFECT.
no subject
Date: 2006-10-09 05:17 pm (UTC)And yeah, that 58/79 is a DREAM. A dream. I'll be wishing on a star for Canada to spit a cold front your way by Thursday night.

I'm at home with a monster headache, therefore I squint at you pitifully.

*note to self: check price of reinforced toe monkey socks for Stoney*

Aw, that's sweet, but if they aren't "high performance" socks, my feet wear holes in them after two walks. I've ruined a few pair since I started training, woe. *plays Taps for frog socks*

Date: 2006-10-09 06:16 pm (UTC)God, in retrospect that is SO slashy. I was so before my time.
So Vincent is a rentboy working the streets in the big city after running away from home (trailer park) and doing pretty good, thinks so anyway...still up for a beta if I can get this thing tamed?

Date: 2006-10-09 06:26 pm (UTC)And seriously - the woman was RUSHRUSHRUSHING to the gym to work out and the front fender TAPPED my knee. And then had the gaul to look at me, affronted, because I'm impeding her progress. When I have a protected "walk" sign flashing.
I'm going to start taking notes from the BFF school, where she used to take rocks in her pockets on runs when cars would try and drive off the shoulder and "scare" her. What is WRONG with people??

Date: 2006-10-09 06:30 pm (UTC)Now, I can't figure out what Puddin'-n-Tame means. I've decided it's Scottish, though!

Date: 2006-10-09 06:35 pm (UTC)"What's your name?" "Puddin'-n-tame, ask me again and I'll tell you the same?" And how much do I love that SOMEONE noticed I changed that stuff? (The journal name and subtitle are from the VM season opener, btw.)
:D (And tell me to STOP looking at Petfinder. I can NOT get a puppers until after Thanksgiving, for we will be gone and cannot take a dawgee with us.) Waaaaaaaah. Pups. In CAGES. :(

Date: 2006-10-09 06:41 pm (UTC)I always notice when your name changes -- I only wish I could remember my own when we were doing that whole group of wives thing. Um. That may make no sense.
Ooooooh, PUPPY! Yes, don't look now, especially if you can't act to adopt one now (some of them will likely be adopted by the time you can really think about it, but that's good for them *crosses fingers*). But PUPPY! I will totally weigh in and listen to dog talk if you want, because I LOFF doggies!

Date: 2006-10-09 06:50 pm (UTC)Oooh, wives thing. YES. I have a memory of that, but alas, I can NOT think of the name. *offers brownie* Was it... Numero Primo?
PUPPY. Oh, doggies. I'm definitely looking for something like a Blue Heeler or shepperd mix, as they have good dispositions, are generally healthy, love their families, and are active. I want a walking/running buddy! Mr. S is going to get a purebred hunting dog this winter, but I need a RESCUE baby. (And they'll need a friend, yes?) #1, they have to do well with kids and cats, so that cuts way back on some shelter pups. *wants them ALL, omg.* I almost got in the car and drove down to the shelter a minute ago... (It's only 2 miles away! I could WALK THERE. And get a friend. NO, STONEY. Be patient.)

Date: 2006-10-09 06:58 pm (UTC)Oh, it's so hard not to adopt EVERYONE when you start looking at those rescue pages! Puppins! And two doggies, they will probably be so happpyyyyy to have the two of them together in your home! *plans doggie parties for them*

Date: 2006-10-09 07:05 pm (UTC)And this shelter has two goats!! NANNY GOATS! *loves their funny round tums* And Paints! (One has a BABY, omg, furrrrrr) Uh, maybe if I need a new volunteer project this winter, I can go pet their noses.
*bakes beef and lamb cupcakes for said party*

Date: 2006-10-09 11:31 pm (UTC)Anyway ... hobbit feet aside, if you're not familiar with BodyGlide, it's great for preventing blisters and chafing. And Coolmax (not cotton) socks. But you probably already know this. :)
no subject
Date: 2006-10-09 11:43 pm (UTC)I've used BodyGlide in the past (when I ran 10Ks) but haven't needed it so far with this event, which is pretty cool. I'm bringing that and moleskin with me, in case, however. I'm a fan of Coolmax, too. Currently, my most favorite socks are Balega - they have built in arch-support AND wicking!!
no subject
Date: 2006-10-10 12:58 am (UTC)BodyGlide is the best. I put it on my inner thighs in the summer when I wear dresses so my thighs don't chafe in the heat. Although that's not really an issue here in CO. And if I wear dress shoes without socks/hose? I smear on the BodyGlide and no blisters. Yay!
That game was insane. I was flailing, Stoney. So much internal conflict for me. I love my Eagles, but Bledsoe. Oh, baby.

Date: 2006-10-10 02:36 am (UTC)Keep on truckin' hon. And just to make you jealous, the last few days here, the weather has been perfect - sunny, bright blue sky, 70 degrees and no humidity. Plus my sunflowers are in full bloom, I'll take a pic and post.

Date: 2006-10-10 02:15 pm (UTC)There's a parent at Nathan's music class who talks incessantly on one of those phones that fits onto the ear, while we're waiting out in the hall. The rest of us are silently reading, or doing crosswords, or even knitting, right? And there are signs posted to please be courteous and keep noise levels down because there are music practice rooms all along this corridor. But this woman talks all the lesson long into thin air. We can hear that these conversations are not earth-shattering. She's not consulting on life-or-death cases as a heart surgeon. It's a fun way for her to pass the time. I'm starting to grind my teeth over this!
You're a star for doing this walk, you know that? *huge hug*
