In a world with horse screwers and Mrs. Berlin Wall, I find it interesting that I'm the only person writing Squidbillies/Harry Potter fanfic. Just when you think you've hit the bottom of the crazy barrel, you find that there's a whole 'nother layer of crazy down there. (MARRIED. To the Berlin Wall. Married? MARRIED! Jeez. <-- Sixteen Candles shout out!)

Things I'm glad about:

  • The minimum wage increase, which helps the worker (even though it screws over the small businessman) <-- lets get some tax reform in there to alleviate the burden on the shrinking middle class, 'kay?
  • FNL last night - Oh, Matt. My secret TV boyfriend. His relationship with Julie makes my chest hurt with love. That RIGHT THERE is how kids really are. It's not perfect, they don't say what they should, and everything's in their eyes when they look at each other. I still want to be Connie Taylor when I grow up.
  • I'm finally catching up on Rome. DUDE. That's a TERRIFIC show. Best TV quote in the history of talking: "Large Penis is always welcome." Ahaha.
  • My dog. My dog snorgling the cats.
  • Random fic recs like this: a Barty Crouch/Crouch Jr. drabble here. Ooooh. That one's nice and dark. And a random Skwisgaar/Toki fic that doesn't make me want to spork my eyes, yay! (why am I getting into a fandom with HS-aged kids? *crie*
  • had a whole night of no choking/coughing, yay! I haaaaaate being sick. Except it affords me time on the computer, and I'm slowly catching up on fic/etc.
  • tonight is the BEST NIGHT FOR COMEDY on TV. The Office! 30 Rock! SCRUBS! Woooot.

I've been feeling very disconnected from things - people, fandom, anything creative/intelligent - and I've decided to take the bull by the horns and just wade in and fix it. Starting with some crack. I hope to have actual fic (of the non-crack variety) written today. (And *cough* if those of you who got a fic from me three weeks ago could you know... SAY SOMETHING about it, that would be super. :D No pressure! I'm just imagining it sucks. This is the boarding school fic. Jess, not you. I know you've been busy.)

I've got more character playlists/music files for uploading under the cut. Feel free to share links.

As I mentioned yesterday, all files have been converted to .wma or .mp3. (I prefer mp4, but evidently not a lot of players accept that format, which sucks, because it sounds richer.) If you find a file you can't play, head over to ZamZar and convert it to what works for you. You'd be amazed at the emails I've gotten over the years bitching about free music. Sheesh.

This was made for [livejournal.com profile] dovil, so there are joke songs. BUT THEY WORK. Again, there's not anything in here that I wouldn't listen to, so even though "Winds of Change" is a silly song, it has the best whistle intro EVER. Hahaha. Ha. and I totally music-geeked out in the liner notes on some of the songs. Spike/Angel. It doesn't get better than these two, imo. Unless it's Angel/Connor.

Now... I'm not a S/X shipper. Not remotely. True, there have been fics I've read and really enjoyed - they've made it work for me - but it's not my cup of tea. I did try and do it justice for those of you who DO like the pairing.

Wesley

This was the second request I got in the project, and I was still figuring out how to make these work. But overall I'm pretty happy with it. As the character went from a buffoon to one of the darkest and most twisted character in the series, so does the music. Aaaaaaaand there's music-geekery in the notes. :)

Man, I miss this show.

And won't someone think of the children come do all of my laundry and scoop the cat boxes for me? All I want to do is lay on my back on the tile of my kitchen and have someone feed me hot soup.

It was SO a re-gift. I love that show! Why did I wait so long to get into it? "His skin looks... dry. He should be oiled." *passes out*

YES. She is "MARRIED" to the Berlin Wall. And has been since 1979. WOW.

(She had a previous love affair with a FENCE.) Oh god, the CRAZY!!

The Berlin Wall lady is awesome. Several months back there was a link in the comments of one of the fandom_wank reports and man oh man, I had a fantastic afternoon reading about it and being all O_o, O_o!!!

People are crazy, yo.

Also, I love Matt Saracen more than any other character on television. He's right after Buffy and Angel, man. RIGHT AFTER. I just. . . NO WORDS FOR THE LOVE.

But if you're laying on your back, the soup will dribble down the corners of your mouth and pool on your neck. And that's never an attractive look for anyone.

::germ free hug:: Hang in there, pookie. Off to read your crack, now.

I AM THE SAME WITH THE MATT LOVE. He is SO WONDERFUL. And I love how in the beginning, Julie thought he was just some dorky meathead.

When they were sitting on the stoop and he was REFUSING to get angry about the shit sandwich his life is, her FACE!! Oh, man. She is so in love with him. Me, too. :D

I love the coach's line: "Nothing is going to squash Matt Saracen. Matt Saracen is like a stink bug - you can't squash him." Ahahahaha.

Well, the current minimum wage in Washington is pushing $8 an hour, and it hasn't seemed to have killed small businesses here yet. It was raised and put on a permanent COLA in the middle of dotBust, and strangely enough, the economy has been growing since.

Which, of course, is exactly the opposite of what conservative economists said would happen, and that makes me very happy.

Julia, every time a conservatives prediction goes wrong, an angel gets its wings?

I'm glad to hear about the minimum wage up north! Keep in mind we have a lot of... unregistered citizens here, so we have a different kettle of fish in the border states.

What needs to happen is reform the tax shelters created that keep 40% of the NGP in the pockets of the rich and out of the hands of small business (which my dad and husband both own) and support for the middle class. Among a few other things, like lowering the cost of energy, etc.

And hahahaha to your last signature! AWESOME.

I'm catching up on the repeats on HBO, and I'm SO EXCITED for a new season!

Someone married the Berlin wall? I'd say I have no words, but we both know that's a damned lie.

Came home late yesterday (I had my hair trimmed, colored and highlighted. My hair looks fab at the moment. The rest, not so much.) so all I did was take a fast look at your music mxies. I'm salivating here. That's right, drooling.

I'm sorry. Irene is now DED from this (http://pics.livejournal.com/crevette/pic/0001tdrw) and cannot post any more replies. It was a messy death--drowning in one's own saliva while gurgling the words "THE HAIR!!! THE HAIR!!" is never clean.

We've got a border here, too, and although the legal and illegal immigrant population is not like Texas' it's still sufficient to fuel the part of the Conecon's prediction that higher minimum wage just drives low-income legal residents out of entry level jobs.

The only economic prediction which seems to be confirmed here is Henry Ford's line about paying workers enough that they can buy your products.

Julia, it does, however, make it necessary to use low-labor farming methods, which is a problem

And 'Winds of Change' is an *awesome* song! ::nods:: And of course there had to be joke songs in a S/A mix - I mean, withour the snark, what's the point?

Out of interest, do you have Aimee Mann's 'Lost in Space'? If not there are a couple of songs I'm going to send you. :)
