First, I think I have to turn in my Texas-native badge, because I forgot yesterday. REMEMBER THE ALAMO. (note: I do not, nor have I ever discriminated against Mexicans. Unless your name is Santa Anna and you have an opium problem and you lead your people to death because they aren't trained militia. Also, said person also sold poisoned food to the Alamo's militia, which weakened them and which I consider dirty pool.) Very interesting book to read: Dual of Eagles, by Jeff Long. Sam Houston liked to wear ladies underwear and was an opium addict, too. Note: most of the Mexican casualties were Mexican inflicted. Which... doesn't say much for the Texicans. But! There were over 6000 Mexican troops, and about 200 at the Alamo, so. Oh, and the "hump" that makes the mission so distinctive? That was added in the late 1840s by the US government. And there's no basement in the Alamo. But Pedro and Inez are still there, with their thousands and thousands of ways to use corn.
Oh, Phil Hartman. So damn funny. *sniff*
To Do List
Crap, I forgot to put "go to bookstore armed with everyone's recs in a comprehensive list". *mentally adds*
- Everyone I know has a big 'but.' Let's talk about your big 'but,' Simone.
- There's a lot of things about me that you don't know anything about, Dottie. Things you wouldn't understand. Things you couldn't understand. Things you shouldn't understand. You don't want to get mixed up with a guy like me. I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel.
- Is there something you can share with the rest of us, Amazing Larry??
- Inez is holding a clay pot, of which she seems to be very proud.
- I say we hang him, then we stab him, then we shoot him, and then we kill him! ~I say we let him go...
- I bought this pen exactly one hour before my bike was stolen. What's the significance? I. DON'T. KNOW.
- I don't make monkeys, I just train them!
- PeeWee. Listen to reason. ~Shh! I'm listening to reason! <-- my favorite line in the whole movie.
- ...and when they pulled driver's body from the burning... twisted... wreck, it looked like THIS!
- Yep. That was the worst accident I'd ever seen.
- Paging Mr. Hermann. Mr. Hermann you have a telephone call.
- I pity the fool that don't eat Mr. T cereal!
- I feel just PERFECT! In fact, I can't remember when I felt quite so COZY down here!
Oh, Phil Hartman. So damn funny. *sniff*

Date: 2007-03-07 03:55 pm (UTC)Yes, don't forget the snacks for Em, and a little cleaning, and a lot of reading with a nap to top it off! Yay!
The Smith'cest going okay?
3. Make her open that box (hahaha)
Date: 2007-03-07 05:00 pm (UTC)I need to grab something like pretzels and string cheese for 20. Or grapes, but then I'd have to put them in individual baggies, and that's a lot of waste. (mostly of time, zomg.)
NAP! Okay, how did I leave that off my list? That should be a REGULAR DAILY OCCURRENCE. And the Smith'cest is going pretty good I think. (I'd love for you to give it a looksee, but I don't want to impose...)
HI!! *squish and love to yoooooouuuuuu*

Oh, hurrah! I want to clean up the last bit first, then I'll send it on. What a relief! Thanks!

Date: 2007-03-07 04:57 pm (UTC)I liked the first three eps of 4400, it just came on at a weird time where I couldn't watch it (and was before the days of the DVR.) I'm hoping it keeps up, because I liked the start of it!

Date: 2007-03-07 05:37 pm (UTC)"4400" is a very, very strange show, and in many ways, is kind of like "X-Files Lite." I can point you towards a couple comms where you can catch up, if you want. Also, look for Summer Glau in S2 and S3--she's...pretty much still being River at first, but she's really very loveable.

Date: 2007-03-07 05:07 pm (UTC)I didn't know Santa Anna was an opium addict.
Speaking of opium, I have the S/A fic, that is My S/A Fic, with Spike in an opium haze for one scene. I sure wish I could write it; it's hard. *whines*
The weather is so gorgeous.
no subject
Date: 2007-03-07 05:10 pm (UTC)Santa Anna also believed he LITERALLY was God. He was... a character. Bent on power, that one.
Wait wait wait. This is a fic TO be written? Or one you've written and you wish it was different? Because I have been asking for a S/A fic with them in an opium den for YEARS. (!!!!)
no subject
Date: 2007-03-07 05:18 pm (UTC)Yeah, Santa Anna. Trippy.
This is a fic TO be written. It's not them in an opium den though. It's Angelus force-feeding newly turned William body after body, and then opium-laced body after body, so William's all BloodLustyOpiumCrazy, but actually the whole time Spike's just laughing at Angelus, and by taking every single thing Angelus dishes out, proving William's the one with the power, not Angelus. The piece is supposed to be about power struggle, about how Spike's power comes from submission, and Angel's power comes from willingness to beat his head against brick walls without ever fucking giving up. Eep.

Date: 2007-03-07 06:08 pm (UTC)Oooh, see, you've described exactly what I want, re: opium usage. Them getting a "second hand high" so to speak. Nice. And I love that whole concept right there. *cheers you on to WRITE THAT, omg*

Date: 2007-03-07 05:42 pm (UTC)We love the 4400! Very fun and absorbing. I hope you like it too. I think it will be better watched on DVD as the seasons were spaced so far apart, and the plotline fairly complicated with so many characters, I found it difficult to maintain continuity between the gaps.

Date: 2007-03-07 06:12 pm (UTC)I liked the first few eps I saw of the 4400, but wasn't able to keep up with the broadcast. I'm like you - big story arcs have more of an affect on me when I can watch them straight through. I think that's why I loved Rome so much.

How are you? And how could you desert the warmth of Texas for NYC? Culture my ass. You want a tan, a good margarita, and a decent plate of tamales and you know it. Hahaha!
