I just saw a terrific movie.

Eternal Sunshine of the Endless Mind is absolutely fantastic film. The use of camera work (I remember reading that a lot of the scenes were one continuous take, which now having seen the movie seem impossible), the color imagery, the use of weather... Amazing.

I loved Adaption and Being John Malkovich, and this movie will go into my collection as well. [livejournal.com profile] jamalov29, you will love this. All about love and destiny and dealing with the faults and ugliness and beauty and need for love. How we NEED it. Fantastic.

Wasn't sure if I was going to like the Kate Winslet character, but it was the point in the beginning to make her loathsome. But Jim Carrey is loathsome as well. Aren't we all an ugly version of ourselves at the end of a relationship? Not who we are in the beginning when love is exciting, and the other person is a mystery? Just fantastic. I'd love to talk to someone about what this movie made them feel. The scene with Jim trying to hide her away in a childhood memory so they can't find her and take him away. And he's under the table crying for his mom to hold him, and she goes under the table to be with him. But they are HIS imaginings blending with HIS memories. Fantastic.

On a different note, I walked five miles today with a half-flat tire on the stroller. My arms are tired. Emily took her megaphone and wore it on her head, and yelled out "hello" to the strangers we passed. My son tried to go to school with his socks rolled down like doughnuts because it "felt good." Lord, save me from my children.

Em and I are off to lay in the grass and watch for birdies. I love fall. I want everyone who reads my journal to habe five minutes of joy today. Everyone seems so sad, depressed, angry... I know that life can suck. Believe me. But man, trees are changing colors. Birds are flying south. Animals are preparing their dens and it's becoming soup weather. Who can be upset with a hot bowl of soup, crusty bread and melted cheese? Mmm. Cheese. If you comment today, I want you to tell me something that makes you happy. no matter how small of insignificant. I wanna know.

Hmm...Riley liked cheese, Anya said Xander was terribly fond of his penis...oh, wait - that wasn't the topic here, was it? I'm goin' with Xander. Yep. I married Xander. No talking me out of it.

I love cheese, too. Melted cheese, garlicky cheese, sweet, creamy cheese.

And I want to love your weiner, too. Ha ha ha!!! I like that it looks like a question mark because of the bend.

SUE!!!! Don't kill me!!! You know I'm talking about the dog and the icon, right?

this is a great movie, and if I have more thoughts on it later, I'll post. for the moment, though, I need to go do some things outside of the house. (No fun, I know).

what makes me happy? Shakespeare makes me happy. getting huge salmon steaks for $3.99 a pound makes me happy, even if it means I'm eating grilled salmon with duck sauce from the chinese restaurant for 3 days straight, which seems to be doing odd things to my digestion. TMI?

Ol' Billy Shakespeare makes me glad, too.

I'm happy you got salmon so cheap, too! We had it last night and it DOES do strange things to your *erm* digestion.

Food is good. Tree pretty.

Come talk to me later about that movie. Color! The use of color was fab.

oh, the movie's gorgeous -- I love how Clem's hair signaled the different timelines. and the ending was so unexpected -- i kept getting smug and thinking I knew where it was going, then -- nope.

I am sort of biased against Jim Carrey in dramatic roles -- I don't think he's bad, but I just always think someone else could have done a better job with the same part (same way I feel about Tom Cruise). But the more I thought about this film after I saw it, the more I liked Carrey's performance. Plus, honestly, would it have been distributed AT ALL without him? Probably not. The casting overall was really inspired -- I loved Mark Ruffalo playing the sweet guy and Elijah Wood playing the creep, when you'd expect the opposite. Hmm, that's about it -- I don't think the film bears too much thinking about (if this technology existed, would people really be using it to forget love affairs? If sleeping with Kate Winslet is the worst thing that ever happened to you, I figure you've got it pretty good!) But it works on sort of a higher level.

I used to be better at talking about movies, really, I'm out of practice. Still haven't gotten out to the Riley flick or the one with my girlfriend Julianne Moore and my boyfriend Dom West.

I was smug too, then it would twist just enough to prove I didn't have it all wrapped up in a pretty bow.

As for the casting, I would say that EVERYONE went against type. Which made it interesting. I think Jim Carrey (with the right direction) can be a terific serious actor, especially when he isn't being a Serious Actor. I think this fir the bill. He made me think of the main character in American SPlendor. Squirrely, shy, uncomfortable... Not anything you'd think of with him. Elijah Wood made me squeamish, which I loved.

I liked that it was a valentine (get it??) to love itself. you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have: ______. (You know you want to say it.)

I'll get you back in practice about talking movies. I have one person in RL that can dig in with me, otherwise, it's all in my head. Right now I'm watching Latter Days (!!!) and they know what missionaries are all about!! Except when they are giving the lessons, they are holding the book wrong. You fold the page UP to make them look you in the face. But they have garments, and know about having a "Stake Pres." for a dad in SLC... Oh, and he's gay, so your out, right? ;-)

The film sounds like the kind of movie I would like. Do you think it's the kind of movie one can find at Blockbuster?

Fall is the best season of the year, not too hot, not too cold, just perfect weather for going out and enjoy nature.

Things that make me happy? That's not difficult at all, mainly my Gorditas, just one smile or one kiss will make me happy.
A nice day, a beautiful flower, the sight of the volcanoes on my way to the office, my friends, hugs, my puppy, my parents, I probably could go on and on, but it's mainly those things that make me happy.

*hugs*

Mari

(I now have Sheryl Crow stuck in my head, thanks.)

Cheesecake
Finding a size 10 dress that has a tag that reads size 8.
The way the back of Caza's neck smells. It's that really good "guy" smell with a hint of shampoo (and a bit of dog kisses, to be honest.)
That I haven't had to do laundry or wash dishes since 1992.
Shakespeare, Blake, Van Morrison's "Moondance" album.
Rambling phone conversations, punctuated with "oh my God!"
I guess I like the weiner, too. The bend is awful cute, isn't it? The icon! The icon, people!!!

Did I tell you that my Grandmother (Big Fat Maw's daughter) buys an extra set of clothes in 10 so she can sew them into her clothes???

I told Mr. Stoney about your cheesecake tale (of the no-bake dingus) and his eyes lit up. You may be making us one when you come. Cheesecake makes me happy, too.

I LOVE the way the skin smells on a guy's neck right below their ear.

(I keep a towel of Mr. Stoney's around when he's gone to smell his aftershave. Is that gross?)

conkers! I love conkers - all shiny and the way they sit in your hand - yummy. I passed a group of about 9 horse chestnuts by the river today and the ground was scattered with conkers and spiky skins - most are in my bag now :::rubs aching shoulder:::

I must have of these conkers. Is it the same as chestnuts? Had those and LOVE them. (Most of the chestnut trees in the US were wiped out by disease in the late 1880s. Mainly we grow pecans and walnuts.)

these arn't edible unfortunately. Children here collect them, bake them whole, drill a hole through them, hang them on a string and play conkers.

Mmmm, cheese! And Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which I haven't seen since it was out in theaters but which I loooooved.

MakesMeHappy Things: the smell of clothes just out of the dryer; my goofy cats; finding money; going on a Quest (for whatever) with my friend [livejournal.com profile] jade_okelani; Snickers ice cream bars, which are better than sex.

Cheese. The universal pleaser.

Wasn't that movie terrific? And all "special effects" were camera tricks. I'm nuts for that stuff.

Goofy cats! My 14 year old Tuxedo has taken to sleeping on top of opened doors. Weirdo. I have yet to eat the Snickers Ice Cream bars. Adding things to do this weekend of a culinary nature. (does anyone else make a "to eat" list?)

I will follow your advice for the movie, Laura ! We so need this, as you wrote it.

I adore fall . There is something in the atmosphere , that goes straight to my heart , a kind of beautiful melancholy. The light is different, softer , and the trees changing colors ? I used to pass entire afternoons when I was younger , wandering in the nature , to be able to take the good picture , at the right moment.
And soup weather ? Me like .
And the gathering around the fire.
"Em and I are off to lay in the grass and watch for birdies".
You know you gave me the need to do the same ? To-morrow!

I had a lot of minutes of joy , today . And I will talk just about the first coming to my mind ; when everybody went in the kitchen to have dinner , my two sons were teasing each other , and their father was looking at them with love . That was a great moment..

Je T'aime, je t'aime!

I knew you would post on happy things!! *smooch*

The director of that movie is French, so you'll be showing National Pride. French onion soup tonight in your honor!!

(I have a picture hidden of Mr. Stoney holding my youngest in his arms at the hospital after she was born. Le sigh. He birthed her, you know...)

Onion soup is delicious , you're right !

Your husband birthed your youngest daughter ? Wow.. *sighing with you* .. it's so touching and beautiful.

It's the beginning of the day for me . My husband left for work early , my elder son has left for shool , too , and I'm going to wake up my little sleepy head Alexandre. In all likelihood , the weather will be gorgeous today , a great autum's day.
I will have lunch outside , and i will be thinking of you .

*Love you too, my sweet friend*

Here I am, going against the grain: this week I am ANTI DAIRY, because it overmucoused my system from daily quesadillas last week. Instead, I offer for Fall Loves:

* Fresh, unsweetened (or slightly sweetened) tart-as-hell cranberry juice
* trail mix with bits of dried fruit
* Feeling small and sizeable twigs snap beneath your sneakers when you go outside to walk
* the word "snap"
* Doing laundry and sticking your hand/food/face in straight-from-the-dryer clothes because it won't make you sweat since it's colder outside now
* giving my cat fake raspberries on her tummy, enough to be nuzzly but not so much that she wants to attack my head
* Ordering Ace Pear cider and not feeling like such a pansy since it's HARVEST SEASON, and nothin' says harvest like "pear" and "cider!"

Evil kitties are the BEST THING EVER.

Mr. Stoney is lactose intolerant, so I get on him for being so bigotted. Hee!

If you have a Sam's card, they have a trailmix in a big, pine green bag that is like, the best GORP around. Dried cranberries are delish!!

Head of romaine, feta cheese (just a little!!), diced celery, diced green onion, diced green apple, dried cranberries, toss with balsamic vinagrette. One of my fave salads ever. (How've you been? Stuck in gameland? Did you get your game?)
From: [identity profile] solipsiae.livejournal.com
I've tried, but I can't do fruits in my salads. No way! They need to be salty, acidic, astringent. I'll have hearts of palm but if you stick a mandarin orange in there I'll KILL. WITH MY MIND.

I'm all about the trail mixes at Whole Foods. I love how pumpkin seeds get bloaty when they're roasted! BLOASTED!

I did get my game, katamari damacy. If you have a ps2, you should get it, even if only for your kids. This game bridges all generation gaps, I kid you not!
From: [identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com
I have:
1. lazy huge cat that drools. he also goes to the crack instead of the wide open space after begging for you to open the door.
2. sleepy grandpa kitty that immediately jumps into any available lap, hunches down and hold tight. you aren't going anywhere. Once he sees you have succumbed to his higher kitty power, he proceeds to rub his face on yours. Awwww!
3. teeny evil black kitty (who killed last night - psycho!) who is so tired from the serial killing spree that she falls asleep in odd places, and does the cute stretching on her back and making a letter C all day long. And she likes foot massages.

I will check out this game of which you speak. My 8 (soon to be 9) year old son probably knows all about it and will wet his pants, causing me great shame.

There is nothing like roated pumpkin seeds. We are growing pumpkins right now so I can roast and package them to be eaten all winter. YUM. (And you are a WORDSMITH. Bloasted: adj, meaning the feeling after getting baked and consuming a turkey dinner. Hee!

whoah. That's kind of hot. FOR A CAT.

My Musket is equal parts evil, loopy, lovey and lazy. She's also very sexy, for a cat, and I am always trying to massage her feetpads, handpands, shoulders, face, whatever she doesn't mind me touching. Her teeth are very straight and white. I save the whiskers that've fallen out, and put them in a ziplock bag. I am a little crazy about my cat.

This game of which I speak, KATAMARI DAMACY, is also the most sought-after and coveted video game in North America right now. It's $20 new and everyone's addicted to it but it's very Japanese and so different than what's out there these days that retailers were skeptical of its selling power, so they understocked and now there's a clamor that hasn't been seen since 1988!

Do you use your pumpkinflesh to make pies? What else can you do with them? I want tips and tricks, misseh.

Ze Pumpkin Fleisch

Split one open, lay both haved on a tray, and roast for an hour in a 350 oven. Scoop the flesh off the rind to be put in something else, or just eat. YUM. I do that same thing with acorn squash and mash it wish roasted garlic and a little slivered swiss chard.

I've made a pumpkin pie once from pumpkins, but it is a LOT of work if you aren't going to make a huge batch and freeze the pumpkin pulp. We eat a lot of roasted pumpkin and squashes here.

Scoop out some of the roasted pumpkin and sautee with diced chicken and zuchinni (add a little cinamon, salt and pepper - trust me). Wait: are you veggie? Or just non-dairy? I have a winter minestrone soup I'll go look up for you. It has every vitamin and mineral you could want, is totally veggie, and SO good, hot or cold. I'll get back to you...

Anyone who's read my userinfo knows how I feel about cheese.

Other things that make me happy? Little things, like knowing the opposite of rueful, or the SO walking all the way up the stairs without stopping, or cracking the spine on a new book, or just the smell of an old book with yellowed pages and that ingrained dusty odor of a charity shop (sans wee). And a million other things that happen every day or near as. I'm basically a very happy person. :)

How perfect that you just posted! I'm gettin ready to put the kiddles away for the night so I can watch A Clockwork Orange. And the circle comes 'round...

Mmmm. Provolone on a crusty loaf soaking up beef broth and onions....
