stoney321I just saw a terrific movie.
Eternal Sunshine of the Endless Mind is absolutely fantastic film. The use of camera work (I remember reading that a lot of the scenes were one continuous take, which now having seen the movie seem impossible), the color imagery, the use of weather... Amazing.

jamalov29, you will love this. All about love and destiny and dealing with the faults and ugliness and beauty and need for love. How we NEED it. Fantastic.
Wasn't sure if I was going to like the Kate Winslet character, but it was the point in the beginning to make her loathsome. But Jim Carrey is loathsome as well. Aren't we all an ugly version of ourselves at the end of a relationship? Not who we are in the beginning when love is exciting, and the other person is a mystery? Just fantastic. I'd love to talk to someone about what this movie made them feel. The scene with Jim trying to hide her away in a childhood memory so they can't find her and take him away. And he's under the table crying for his mom to hold him, and she goes under the table to be with him. But they are HIS imaginings blending with HIS memories. Fantastic.
On a different note, I walked five miles today with a half-flat tire on the stroller. My arms are tired. Emily took her megaphone and wore it on her head, and yelled out "hello" to the strangers we passed. My son tried to go to school with his socks rolled down like doughnuts because it "felt good." Lord, save me from my children.
Em and I are off to lay in the grass and watch for birdies. I love fall. I want everyone who reads my journal to habe five minutes of joy today. Everyone seems so sad, depressed, angry... I know that life can suck. Believe me. But man, trees are changing colors. Birds are flying south. Animals are preparing their dens and it's becoming soup weather. Who can be upset with a hot bowl of soup, crusty bread and melted cheese? Mmm. Cheese. If you comment today, I want you to tell me something that makes you happy. no matter how small of insignificant. I wanna know.

Shakespeare makes me happy. getting huge salmon steaks for $3.99 a pound makes me happy, even if it means I'm eating grilled salmon with duck sauce from the chinese restaurant for 3 days straight, which seems to be doing odd things to my digestion. Date: 2004-09-29 09:24 pm (UTC)I am sort of biased against Jim Carrey in dramatic roles -- I don't think he's bad, but I just always think someone else could have done a better job with the same part (same way I feel about Tom Cruise). But the more I thought about this film after I saw it, the more I liked Carrey's performance. Plus, honestly, would it have been distributed AT ALL without him? Probably not. The casting overall was really inspired -- I loved Mark Ruffalo playing the sweet guy and Elijah Wood playing the creep, when you'd expect the opposite. Hmm, that's about it -- I don't think the film bears too much thinking about (if this technology existed, would people really be using it to forget love affairs? If sleeping with Kate Winslet is the worst thing that ever happened to you, I figure you've got it pretty good!) But it works on sort of a higher level.
I used to be better at talking about movies, really, I'm out of practice. Still haven't gotten out to the Riley flick or the one with my girlfriend Julianne Moore and my boyfriend Dom West.

I think Jim Carrey (with the right direction) can be a terific serious actor, especially when he isn't being a Serious Actor. I think this fir the bill. He made me think of the main character in American SPlendor. Squirrely, shy, uncomfortable... Not anything you'd think of with him. Elijah Wood made me squeamish, which I loved.
I liked that it was a valentine (get it??) to love itself. you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have: ______. (You know you want to say it.)
I'll get you back in practice about talking movies. I have one person in RL that can dig in with me, otherwise, it's all in my head. Right now I'm watching Latter Days (!!!) and they know what missionaries are all about!! Except when they are giving the lessons, they are holding the book wrong. You fold the page UP to make them look you in the face. But they have garments, and know about having a "Stake Pres." for a dad in SLC... Oh, and he's gay, so your out, right? ;-)

Things that make me happy? That's not difficult at all, mainly my Gorditas, just one smile or one kiss will make me happy.
A nice day, a beautiful flower, the sight of the volcanoes on my way to the office, my friends, hugs, my puppy, my parents, I probably could go on and on, but it's mainly those things that make me happy.

I LOVE the way the skin smells on a guy's neck right below their ear.
(I keep a towel of Mr. Stoney's around when he's gone to smell his aftershave. Is that gross?)

The light is different, softer , and the trees changing colors ? I used to pass entire afternoons when I was younger , wandering in the nature , to be able to take the good picture , at the right moment.
And soup weather ? Me like .
And the gathering around the fire.

I had a lot of minutes of joy , today . And I will talk just about the first coming to my mind ; when everybody went in the kitchen to have dinner , my two sons were teasing each other , and their father was looking at them with love . That was a great moment..

2. sleepy grandpa kitty that immediately jumps into any available lap, hunches down and hold tight. you aren't going anywhere. Once he sees you have succumbed to his higher kitty power, he proceeds to rub his face on yours. Awwww!
3. teeny evil black kitty (who killed last night - psycho!) who is so tired from the serial killing spree that she falls asleep in odd places, and does the cute stretching on her back and making a letter C all day long. And she likes foot massages.
I will check out this game of which you speak. My 8 (soon to be 9) year old son probably knows all about it and will wet his pants, causing me great shame.
There is nothing like roated pumpkin seeds. We are growing pumpkins right now so I can roast and package them to be eaten all winter. YUM. (And you are a WORDSMITH. Bloasted: adj, meaning the feeling after getting baked and consuming a turkey dinner. Hee!

It's $20 new and everyone's addicted to it but it's very Japanese and so different than what's out there these days that retailers were skeptical of its selling power, so they understocked and now there's a clamor that hasn't been seen since 1988!
Do you use your pumpkinflesh to make pies? What else can you do with them? I want tips and tricks, misseh.

Date: 2004-09-30 08:18 am (UTC)I've made a pumpkin pie once from pumpkins, but it is a LOT of work if you aren't going to make a huge batch and freeze the pumpkin pulp. We eat a lot of roasted pumpkin and squashes here.
Scoop out some of the roasted pumpkin and sautee with diced chicken and zuchinni (add a little cinamon, salt and pepper - trust me). Wait: are you veggie? Or just non-dairy? I have a winter minestrone soup I'll go look up for you. It has every vitamin and mineral you could want, is totally veggie, and SO good, hot or cold. I'll get back to you...

Little things, like knowing the opposite of rueful, or the SO walking all the way up the stairs without stopping, or cracking the spine on a new book, or just the smell of an old book with yellowed pages and that ingrained dusty odor of a charity shop (sans wee). And a million other things that happen every day or near as. I'm basically a very happy person. :)
