My husband promised me a "treat" if I knocked off a bunch of our honey-do list, so I didn't stop yesterday until 10pm cleaning, fixing, repairing, lugging and I am WORN OUT. Still. Also, I came this close to taking a sledge hammer to my smoke detector in my bedroom because it would not. stop. beeping. Problem: I have vaulted ceilings in my bedroom. So I have to lug the 20 foot ladder into the bedroom to reach the damn thing. THREE NEW BATTERIES in it (one at a time) before I could find one the Almighty Detector would accept. GAH. Two hours later? The gameroom detector started beeping. *cries* You know, AFTER I put the ladder away.

But today I get to purchase new comfy patio furniture, HURRAH! (And my bathroom is painted, and the other bathroom has been touched up from splooges, and the floors cleaned the oven scrubbed and... Basically it was a "no more wire hangers!" kind of cleaning frenzy.) And I got a new rocking chair yesterday, got it all put together and I have had my morning coffee and paper read in the cool sunrise. *bliss* Mr. S leaves tomorrow night for Amsterdam, so I've got my fingers crossed on him smuggling back hookers and hash for me! :D Did you know that Anne Frank's chestnut tree is being torn down? :( They've taken grafts so they can replant one in the correct spot. I felt so sad when I read that. I loved her descriptions of her tree. Mr. S is going to visit it and take pictures for me, aww! After he's had hookers and hash, I'm sure.

I had deep thoughts on Tyrone Brown leaving prison last night (oh my gosh, I teared up seeing his family en masse waiting for him outside the gates. The BUS DRIVER started crying!) but I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the injustice. (For those that may not know, Tyrone Brown, 17, held up a guy coming out of a bar for 2 dollars. He went to jail, got paroled, was busted for smoking pot and received LIFE IN PRISON. Meanwhile, the judge that sentenced Brown let a wealthy and connected white man who MURDERED someone off with NO parole and no prison time. JUST... WHAT. :o)

The person he robbed of $2 is a former co-worker of mine, and Bill (the robbee) has been outraged at Brown's treatment, and protesting his life sentence (Bill's a really nice guy, and a complete redneck, which is funny to me.) I mean, if the "victim" thinks you're being treated unfairly, come on! But Tyrone is home now with a large support system to keep him on the right track, and the locals here are not letting up on the asshole judge that gave him life in prison while letting a rich white man off for MURDER. The judge in question has been voted out of office, so you know. BAH. Such injustice.

In other news, Sonic now has a banana cream pie shake. ( should mention it has weechunks of banana AND nilla wafers in it. !!!!)

Are they only down south? That is a TRAVESTY. If I could cold-ship you a cherry limeade when it gets hot up there, I would because those are a PARTY IN MY MOUTH, ngah.

Nope, no Sonics in Michigan, the closest one is in Ohio. But we get the damn tempting ads!!

WHY IS MICHIGAN SO CROO-ELLE? I'm serious, I go three times a week in the heat of the summer for cherry limeades with REAL LIMES AND CHERRY AND ADES.

I am sorry for you. *holds arms out for hugs*

The nearest Sonic to me is down in bumfuck Virginia, about 4 hours away.

At least once during the summer, my hubby insists on making the drive!

That shake sounds CRAZY YUMMY! Go get one. Yes.

I may poke around at various McDonald's in the area, because, hello, are there any Shamrock Shakes to be had with my name on them?

SHAMROCK SHAKES?!? Are they mint? Are they parsley? I would vote for the former, not the latter. *makes a face*

Oh my gosh, Jess, the SHAKES at Sonic! And they're like... two bucks!! *freaks* I swear, when you come? Be prepared to gain five pounds, because there are just SO MANY PLACES we need to go eat. Heee!!

It sounds like your detectors got the memo about battery replacement whenever the clock jumps forward or back. Don't tell anyone *shhhh* but we had to take one of ours out completely because the blasted thing would go off FOR NO REASON. It's hard wired, for chrissake, it don't need no stinking batteries! But at 2 in the morning it'd get lonely or something and cry out for attention and we got sick of its codependent ways.

I suppose we should get a new one, now that I think about it.

And definitely get that shake. Banana Cream is my 3rd favorite kind of pie (yes, I have rankings for pie...doesn't everyone?) and that sounds delish.

Hmmmm. The guys from UCB in Manhattan are on all the commercials, so surely they couldn't be so cruel to not have any locations up there, could they??

Here's a Sonic Locator. *crosses fingers* Maybe a road trip is needed?!

GAH. Ours is hard-wired TOO, and wired into our security system so it was DRIVING ME CRAZY. I actually called my dad for help after the THIRD new battery wouldn't work (my husband was in the air coming home) and I was so frustrated I said the F word!! TO MY DAD. I apologized and he laughed and said he was ready to say it, too, just from hearing the chirping over the phone. GAH.

It went off at 2am, too, so I slept on the living room sofa the night before to escape it. GAH.

WHAT ARE YOUR PIE RANKINGS?!?! *wants pie*

Last summer Dairy Queen had Banana Cream and French Silk pie blizzards. I kept meaning to get one and never did. So go enjoy the shake at Sonic. My closest Sonic is down in Denver. *sigh* When I was a kid we went to Sonic (in Missouri) almost weekly. I would have a chili cheese dog. I think that would probably kill me now, but as a kid I loved them.

Gah, that's my husband most FAVORITE thing ever, the chili cheese dog. FOOTLONG. With tots. I cringe for his arteries every time he eats one. I'm a fan of the #2 burger: loads of mustard and pickles, mmmm.

Oooh, I've been meaning to ask you: are you still thinking of doing the 3 Day with me? If it's not feasible, I certainly won't be upset. I just think it would be so fun to do it together, if you can!

Oh, that is the kind of thing that I believe justifies little acts of violence. Seriously, get me on the jury and you're home free.

Top 5 Favorite Pies:
5. Pumpkin (but only my own recipe which was once my mom's and only at Thanksgiving)
4. Cherry (used to get cherries from this family farm that made the best Cherry Pie On EarthTM. Now the farm has been sold and doesn't sell direct to the public any more. ::Cries:: Not only is there no more Cherry Pie On EarthTM, but there's also no more long drives home eating cherries and spitting pits until our hands are stained red and our stomaches are begging for mercy.)
3. Banana Cream
2. Coconut Cream
1. Apple (mmmm...so good with Braeburns or other spicy-type apples and a light touch with the cinnamon and nutmeg. And warm. With a good vanilla ice cream.)

Oh, cool!!! YAY. Let's get together later (like, next weekish?) and figure out how we want to approach fundraising. I think if we sign up as a team, then if one of us raises more, it all goes to the same fund, so there's not as much pressure if the other person doesn't hit the $2200 goal. It's up to you, I'm good either way.

SALLY. I'm so happy!!!

GLAH. That list is deliciousness. (But, and don't hate me, I don't like apple pie. It's the texture of the apples when they're cooked. I'm weird, I know.)

Shove pecan pie in the #1 spot and I'm just about the same up there. PIE! (Oooh, instead of whipped cream on the banana pie, mix a pint of fresh raspberries - slightly crushed - with whip cream and put THAT on top. Ungh. So good.)

CHERRIES. Fresh cherries like you've described are almost WORTH the belly torture.

See, the thing with the apple pie is that it's one of those that seems so simple, and yet can go oh so wrong if any little thing is off. I've had the too-mushy apples and UGH. The too crunchy apples are almost as bad. Ditto with the spices. Too much and it overwhelms the apple, too little and it doesn't bring up the apple taste like they should.

And those cherries absolutely were worth the pain. Richly flavored, warm and straight off the tree so the taste was at the peak of cherry-goodness, a touch spicy, firm...perfection on a pit. One of the largest cherry growing areas in the world used to be a few hours' drive, but thanks to globalization and ability to get them cheaper from Chile, most companies that use and/or sell cherries now get them from Chile. So these long-time cherry farmers are slowly giving up and it's absolutely heartbreaking. The flavor is nowhere near as good. It's like how they've bred the scent out of roses just so they can look good and last longer after they're cut...but if they don't smell good, what's the freaking point?!

OK, I'm obviously a leeetle upset that I can't get those cherries any more. It really is a sad side effect of globalization in my book.

P.S. I've never had a pecan pie that didn't come across as sugar chased with a dash of sweet. Since I love pecans, I always thought I'd love the pie...but no such thing yet...I've never had one where I could actually taste any pecan.

I had thought the same thing about teams, but when I looked yesterday, it seems that we still each have to raise our $2200. I'm happy to make a team anyway, because that's just cool. But I don't think it makes the fundraising easier. Which sucks, because that had seemed like a great way to raise money together from fandom. But I do have some other ideas about raising money from fandom and maybe there's some way we can split donations or something? We'll see.

What would our team name be?

Mmmmm, Sonic. Mmmmm. I used to get the #2 burger with jalapenos on. SO GOOD. Also blue coconut flurries. Because who doesn't want to drink a shake that's radioactive blue?

Yay new patio furniture and Tyrone Brown being released! That's sorta sad about the tree. A few years ago they had to tear down the oldest tree in Virginia because it was rotten at the core and in danger of toppling. It had been there since the Revolution. Not commenting on how this could be Metaphor.
