My husband promised me a "treat" if I knocked off a bunch of our honey-do list, so I didn't stop yesterday until 10pm cleaning, fixing, repairing, lugging and I am WORN OUT. Still. Also, I came this close to taking a sledge hammer to my smoke detector in my bedroom because it would not. stop. beeping. Problem: I have vaulted ceilings in my bedroom. So I have to lug the 20 foot ladder into the bedroom to reach the damn thing. THREE NEW BATTERIES in it (one at a time) before I could find one the Almighty Detector would accept. GAH. Two hours later? The gameroom detector started beeping. *cries* You know, AFTER I put the ladder away.

But today I get to purchase new comfy patio furniture, HURRAH! (And my bathroom is painted, and the other bathroom has been touched up from splooges, and the floors cleaned the oven scrubbed and... Basically it was a "no more wire hangers!" kind of cleaning frenzy.) And I got a new rocking chair yesterday, got it all put together and I have had my morning coffee and paper read in the cool sunrise. *bliss* Mr. S leaves tomorrow night for Amsterdam, so I've got my fingers crossed on him smuggling back hookers and hash for me! :D Did you know that Anne Frank's chestnut tree is being torn down? :( They've taken grafts so they can replant one in the correct spot. I felt so sad when I read that. I loved her descriptions of her tree. Mr. S is going to visit it and take pictures for me, aww! After he's had hookers and hash, I'm sure.

I had deep thoughts on Tyrone Brown leaving prison last night (oh my gosh, I teared up seeing his family en masse waiting for him outside the gates. The BUS DRIVER started crying!) but I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the injustice. (For those that may not know, Tyrone Brown, 17, held up a guy coming out of a bar for 2 dollars. He went to jail, got paroled, was busted for smoking pot and received LIFE IN PRISON. Meanwhile, the judge that sentenced Brown let a wealthy and connected white man who MURDERED someone off with NO parole and no prison time. JUST... WHAT. :o)

The person he robbed of $2 is a former co-worker of mine, and Bill (the robbee) has been outraged at Brown's treatment, and protesting his life sentence (Bill's a really nice guy, and a complete redneck, which is funny to me.) I mean, if the "victim" thinks you're being treated unfairly, come on! But Tyrone is home now with a large support system to keep him on the right track, and the locals here are not letting up on the asshole judge that gave him life in prison while letting a rich white man off for MURDER. The judge in question has been voted out of office, so you know. BAH. Such injustice.

In other news, Sonic now has a banana cream pie shake. ( should mention it has weechunks of banana AND nilla wafers in it. !!!!)

WHY IS MICHIGAN SO CROO-ELLE? I'm serious, I go three times a week in the heat of the summer for cherry limeades with REAL LIMES AND CHERRY AND ADES.

I am sorry for you. *holds arms out for hugs*

The nearest Sonic to me is down in bumfuck Virginia, about 4 hours away.

At least once during the summer, my hubby insists on making the drive!

That shake sounds CRAZY YUMMY! Go get one. Yes.

I may poke around at various McDonald's in the area, because, hello, are there any Shamrock Shakes to be had with my name on them?

SHAMROCK SHAKES?!? Are they mint? Are they parsley? I would vote for the former, not the latter. *makes a face*

Oh my gosh, Jess, the SHAKES at Sonic! And they're like... two bucks!! *freaks* I swear, when you come? Be prepared to gain five pounds, because there are just SO MANY PLACES we need to go eat. Heee!!

It sounds like your detectors got the memo about battery replacement whenever the clock jumps forward or back. Don't tell anyone *shhhh* but we had to take one of ours out completely because the blasted thing would go off FOR NO REASON. It's hard wired, for chrissake, it don't need no stinking batteries! But at 2 in the morning it'd get lonely or something and cry out for attention and we got sick of its codependent ways.

I suppose we should get a new one, now that I think about it.

And definitely get that shake. Banana Cream is my 3rd favorite kind of pie (yes, I have rankings for pie...doesn't everyone?) and that sounds delish.

Date: 2007-03-16 03:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com
GAH. Ours is hard-wired TOO, and wired into our security system so it was DRIVING ME CRAZY. I actually called my dad for help after the THIRD new battery wouldn't work (my husband was in the air coming home) and I was so frustrated I said the F word!! TO MY DAD. I apologized and he laughed and said he was ready to say it, too, just from hearing the chirping over the phone. GAH.

It went off at 2am, too, so I slept on the living room sofa the night before to escape it. GAH.

WHAT ARE YOUR PIE RANKINGS?!?! *wants pie*

Last summer Dairy Queen had Banana Cream and French Silk pie blizzards. I kept meaning to get one and never did. So go enjoy the shake at Sonic. My closest Sonic is down in Denver. *sigh* When I was a kid we went to Sonic (in Missouri) almost weekly. I would have a chili cheese dog. I think that would probably kill me now, but as a kid I loved them.

Gah, that's my husband most FAVORITE thing ever, the chili cheese dog. FOOTLONG. With tots. I cringe for his arteries every time he eats one. I'm a fan of the #2 burger: loads of mustard and pickles, mmmm.

Oooh, I've been meaning to ask you: are you still thinking of doing the 3 Day with me? If it's not feasible, I certainly won't be upset. I just think it would be so fun to do it together, if you can!

Mmmmm, Sonic. Mmmmm. I used to get the #2 burger with jalapenos on. SO GOOD. Also blue coconut flurries. Because who doesn't want to drink a shake that's radioactive blue?

Yay new patio furniture and Tyrone Brown being released! That's sorta sad about the tree. A few years ago they had to tear down the oldest tree in Virginia because it was rotten at the core and in danger of toppling. It had been there since the Revolution. Not commenting on how this could be Metaphor.

ANYTHING WITH JALAPENOS IS GOOD. Anything.

I was so sad about Anne Frank's tree! I moped for a few hours around the house. *is a dork when it comes to plant life* Oooh, the REvolution tree! There's a tree at the Gettysburg site that still has musket fire riddling the side and is still there. It's AMAZING.

I don't think there's anything I need - we still have 'poo and conditioner... THanks though! I'll double check later.

Well, the BEST burger joint EVER ANYWHERE EVER is Burger Street. Are they out in 'Bama? Oh. My. God. For under 3 bucks you can get the best flippin' burger, curly fries and a coke. GLAH. Delish.

I do like 'tots from Sonic, but mostly I'm all about the cherry limeade. And the kids dig corny dogs. I'll grab a #2 if I'm in the mood for a burger, but honestly, we very rarely eat at fast food joints because I'm a mean mother that doesn't love her children enough. Or that's what they'd have you BELIEVE.

Oooh, what's the tip? This is very exciting! *rests chin on fists, beams*

The first year we lived in this house, our bedroom smoke alarm went on and would not turn off. In a fit of beep inspired insanity, my husband tore it off the ceiling - and it still kept beeping. Turns out they're all wired into each other and it was actually the alarm in his office that was out of batteries. Meanwhile, 5 years later and it's still hanging half off the ceiling.

You should have a shake so I don't have to. I feel there's a certain shake allotment that needs to be drunk everyday, so by you having one, I can go without.

Date: 2007-03-16 07:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com
In our old house (it was built in 1917) the alarm went off so loudly that it made the children cry. I could NOT turn it off, so I grabbed my husband's mallet and climbed on top of the dining table and smashed it to bits.

The kids cheered. True story!

These are all wired together and to our alarm system in this house, so I'm anticipating all of them going off soon. I have bought a plethora of batteries to be prepared. Ack.

I will spare your thighs and sacrifice mine for the sake of shakes being consumed as they should be!

Anne Frank's chestnut! So sad. I'm glad they'll replace it with a family member.

Dude, normally I say go for the thing with the most amount of calories, but DIET CHERRY LIMEADE!!!!! Why don't we have Sonic here, Stoney? WHY?????

OMG is cherry limeade so fattening that I should be getting diet??!?! I'm normally anti-diet sodas on principle, but if it will help my thighs... I WILL GET IT.

Also, I had NO shakes today after all, but I am having many margaritas which is a-ok with me.

*sends you all the diet cherry limeade a plane can CARRY, zomg*

Why don't we have a Sonic near us so I can get one of those? Sounds so good.

You know, when I was visiting you and thinking how pretty your house was, a random thought crossed my mind about those lovely cathedral ceilings -- how hard it would be to paint them because they were so high. It hadn't been long ago that we'd finished painting our basement so painting was on my mind. Good thing you don't mind being on a tall ladder!

Sonic! I mean, it's cheap fast food (like... cheap) but the sodas/sweets are TERRIFIC.

Aww, thank you for that nice compliment, Anne! And yeah - I don't fancy getting on a ladder to PAINT those walls. Clean off cobwebs, etc? I'm good with that, but dragging paint cans, taping off the ceiling? I'm saving up to hire someone. *g*
