Man, things have been... rough. Okay, in comparison to other people's troubles, they've been merely bumpy, but for me: rough. To the point that my dentist (tooth cleaning on Monday) told me I may need to get a mouth guard because I'm wearing away my back teeth from clenching. O_O And.... relax. *exhaaaaaaaale* (thank you to everyone from that last post. I'm trying to move past some stuff, so I may not reply. But I appreciate the support like you wouldn't believe.)

My way to deal with the current stresses life sent my way is to paint my kitchen. As in, the cabinets. All 48 of them. What on EARTH AM I THINKING? Okay, they're an ugly cherry color, which could be fine in many kitchens, but coupled with the beige (yuck) walls and beige countertops... A whole lot of blah. I SUCK at stripping (unless there's a pole, ba-dump-bum-CHING!) so I decided to paint them. Um... Mr. S specifically said when I posed the idea to him a few weeks ago that he was AGAINST painting. Oh, well. I have to look at it every day, so I make the decisions. :D (The cabinetry is being painted a deep, high gloss chocolate brown. The walls are getting painted a muslin color - faint yellows and creams - accented with a grey-green-khaki color. That sounds weird, but trust me! The color chips are GORGEOUS. (If I didn't suck at taking pictures I would post some.)

I keep repeating lines from "Pulp Fiction" while I paint (with a brush! It's all with a brush! it's going to be beautiful! <--convincing myself)

"Shit yeah. I got my technique down and everything, I don't be ticklin' or nothin'." Tickling = glops, drips, visible brush strokes. Isn't this EXCITING? Um.. the whole point is LACK of excitement. There's enough all around as there is.

Oh! So who dat is? Anna's Baby's Daddy! If you'd like a skeevier version (don't act like you don't.) you can read this. :D Also, Don Imus is a prick - I gasped when I read what he called those girls, and I am SO PROUD of the Rutger's ball team. And can we all agree that GIRL athletes are COMPLETELY different from BOY athletes? (theory: because they can't make it rich by playing sports professionally, they develop other successful skills as well, allowing them to be more well rounded than boy athletes.)

In conclusion: OM. (and tonight is the FNL season finale!! TUNE IN AT 7PM, on NBC!)

You are good at pictures! Hello. I am sitting in a library writing about medieval numerology. If you find painting cabinets too exciting, I suggest you try that next. *hugs lots*

haha, no, I'm really not! :D

Medieval numerology could be really really interesting, though! (Just me? And your professor?)

You ARE. What. Lies.

...yeah, okay, actually it sort of is if you're a big huge geek. You have to love these medieval poets, they bung in special symbolic bits on the 2,525th line of their poems, KNOWING that it's a poem to be spoken aloud and thus the audience will never go "ZOMG 2,525TH LINE you are SO CLEVER what wih the 2s and 5s and all", and yet they do it anyway.

NB 5 is really important to the poem. Er, my brain is fried, but it's all about early Medieval Marian worship and, like, stuff. My professor is a MILLION YEARS OLD. srsly.

*hugs you x infinity PLUS ONE*

Heeeee! I had a long and detailed convo with my father about Bulgarian composers, and how they used math like crazy in their compositions in the 17th-18th centuries, so you are NOT ALONE.

And there are the few random people that DO go nuts for the 2s and 5s, ha! (I love that! So clever and obscure!)

Ahahahaha, that is an EXCELLENT POINT re: exercise! (that means I can skip the long walk, right??) OMG, J, coming from our old house with the ONE 2'x3' counter that had the toaster, micro, canisters/prep space and 8 cabinets, this felt like PARADISE.

(Although it's taking me FOREVER to get done, zomg!)

Hi, Entre!!! <3 <3 <3! There needs to be Fresca Peach where you are so we can One, Two, ThreeSIP! in unison and our sighs of pleasure will circle the earth!

I shot that message to you then left for my walk. I just painted my kitchen cabinets. Color on walls: Butter yellow, counters- yucky and will be replaced. Cabinets: BLACK. LOVE IT!!! Lack of fiber was referring to this sentence: relax. *exhaaaaaaaale* (thank you to everyone from that last post. I'm trying to move past some stuff, so I may not reply. The colors sound gorgeous, and I admire that you've developed a non-tickling technique. Tres difficult.

I'm on PINS and NEEDLES about the finale. ::bites nails:: did you see the news where NBC ordered 6 more scripts? ::bites nails again::

The online colorchips don't do them justice, but if you go here I picked (under Naturals) NA 21 for the walls and NA32 for the cabinetry. (That's pretty much my house's color palate for carpeting/walls/furniture and accented in spicy pumpkins, golds, and deep reds.)

I did NOT see that, YAYNESS!!! Oh my GOSH, bring it back, people!!

I didn't read the article everyone linked to because order 6 scripts isn't anywhere near the same as getting renewed, but it's showing some interest at least *g*

I mean, SERIOUSLY. That he dared called THOSE girls what he did... One of them is a serious classical pianist with a career in music ahead of her, another is getting ready to go to law school, on and on. Hos?! What an asshole. *not even bringing up the racist shit*

I was thinking about you this morning and wondering if all was well with you since you usually are more chatty on LJ than you've been this week. So -- more excitement than you'd like? Bearing down too hard on the old molars? Doesn't sound good. Now, me, I'd curl up with a good book and several cups of hot tea. You -- paint an entire battalion of kitchen cabinets, with all the walls for good measure.

*sigh*

I love how you define relaxation and wish I could do it the same way; it's certainly more productive!

Now, about Don Imus... He is certainly loathsome, but I must confess I'm in a bit of a muddle over this brouhaha. From what I've read of the broadcast that produced the furor, he was having a conversation where he compared the Rutgers team to the Tennessee team. He said the nasty stuff about the Rutgers team, and then he said the Tennessee team was "cute." Ron and I were talking about this today over breakfast -- Ron's from Tennessee so he and I remarked that we thought TN had some black players too so... how did the racist element come into this? Ron checked online and indeed the proportions of black to white players are almost identical (Rutgers - 8 black players, I think, TN has 7). So, here's my point -- Imus has been castigated everywhere for his remarks as being racist. I think his remarks were awful, but since he seems to have been comparing two teams whose racial compositions are almost the same I'm not sure how that tracks. I think it's more complicated than just saying that Imus is racist, end of story. Everyone seems to be forgetting the TN team has black members too.

Just more of what we talked about in email the other day? Grrr. /mama bear.

Hahaha, I'm trying to be in control of my life - translation: paint the kitchen. :D (I did nothing but read all weekend, so I was feeling like a slug.)

The thing about Imus was he was saying the Rutgers girls - who came in SECOND - really screwed the pooch. That they sucked. So, that alone was pretty shirty, but *shrug.* It was him saying they're Nappy-haired Hos that is most upsetting. And he called them THUGS. (Half of the team are on the honor roll.) He and his compatriots went on to talk about how gross girls with tattoos are, how lunky and disgusting female athletes are... (The callers in.)

It's the "nappy-haired" part that is a BIG uh uh. That's like calling someone a pickaninny! And then the "ho" part? Nuh uh. It just bugs me that he used such language about the team. I didn't catch the part where he was comparing the teams, I just heard the comments he made about the Rutgers girls being "nappy haired hos." That's dusgusting to me.

All of what he said is completely disgusting. I think it is more accurate to describe what he said as *sexist* with racial overtones. Because -- he's degrading women who have tattoos, calling them thugs, hos etc. If these women don't look a certain way, aren't feminine as he perceives they should be? Then he throws around the ugly names.

I just think it's interesting that this whole thing is being cast as a racial issue, rather than a feminist issue, when I think it could be framed as either way -- with my own feelings leaning toward the latter.
