Today is the 30th Anniversary of the original release of Star Wars IV: A New Hope. __insert memoriable "I was __ years old and stood in line and experienced this first hand" comment here__ :D

Instead, I'll test your knowledge of Star Wars in a MIND-BENDINGLY DIFFICULT POLL.

[Poll #991266]

(Um, everyone should know what a complete and utter geek I am for these movies, right? Okay, then.) And it should read: .12 Parsecs = 3.7028163 × 1015 meters, but the polls won't let me format, BAH. *Hulk Smash because MATH MATTERS* Also note: that is based on the size of Planet Earth, not Tattoine or Alderan or whatever planet it is that lies close to the Black Hole near the Kessel Run - like if the planet is larger, the length would be shorter. So let's not get into arguments about navigation through black holes. AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Nerd alert! *pushes glasses up nose*

I'm heading out of town for a family vacation this Sunday - have an excellent weekend and next week, everyone! MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU. Heeeeeee!

YOU CANNOT EDIT A POLL I... I mean, that was a TEST, which you PASSED.

Now: name the sentient tip (heh heh) of what forest mountain on what forest planet that is in what culture? GO.

(heeeee!)

30 years ago, I was going on my very first date. His dad drove us to the theater, where we stood in line and sat in a freaking packed house. Total and complete AWE when the text started rolling. (I can't convey to my daughter that no matter how lame that text scroll looks now, at the time it was mind-blowing.)

After the date, his dad picked us up and drove me home. He had to make his son get out of the car and walk me to the door, where he shook my hand.

Brian, if you're reading this, it was the best nerd date, ever. ;)

I'm not even going to pretend that I bawled when the opening Title Card (Um... that is "Lucasfilm" not even the MOVIE'S titlecard) came on screen for Revenge of the Sith. BAWLED. And didn't stop tearing up until ten minutes after leaving the theater. Yeah, I'm a big old geek, and proud of it.

Your nerd date sounds like the most awesome thing EVER. *loves Brian on your behalf* Heeee!

I'll definitely include in my memoirs how pathetic and awful it was (cue violins and slow piano for montage scene) that I had to not only walk to school, uphill both ways, in the snow blown by howling wind, wearing skirts (Christmas gift of homemade underwear with itchy lace underneath) when other girls were wearing jeans, filling my glasses with tears and wiping snot on my oh-so-thin sweater with many moth-holes, but I also missed out on one of the major cultural touchstones that defined my generation because my parents refused to ever take us to movies.

::Sniff:: But I'm OK now. ::Sniff Sniff:: No really, I'm OK.

WHAT.

I spit in your parents' direction for doing that to you. (but only metaphorically because they are your PARENTS. Cruel though they may be. *g*)

They should do an anniversary theatrical release. It would be SO much better than the prequels!

Oooooo. I would be all over that like white on rice.

I KNOW! The Imax here is showing a special "retrospective" tonight, but that's it! Pah. There should be parades!

I was a little bit too young, but I remember watching it on HBO when I was maybe 5? Saw Empire on HBO too. Jedi was the first one I saw in the theater. I sat on my Dad's lap because it was so crowded.

Chris and I went to see the original three in the theater when they rereleased them. And he's seen all six movies for the first time in the theater with his father. For the crappy prequels we drove to Philly for each one so he could continue the tradition of seeing them with dad. And the story is that when they went to see A New Hope, he was in his seat with popcorn and drink and as soon as Vader came on screen he got scared and moved to his dad's lap for the rest of the movie. Awww. :)

Empire was the first one I saw in the theater. (We had a bootlegged Betamax tape of the first one that I saw. I was... pretty young. I think it was '78 - so only a year after the release?)

I've seen every one in the theater since the original '77 showing. The "pre-touch ups" the "touch ups" and the prequels. I love that story about Chris and his dad, AWWWW! (You didn't recreate that did you? *g*)

I think I've heard Chris's dad G or his partner D tell that story about 50 times over the years. It is really sweet though. And when the prequels were coming out and we didn't know how much time G had left (he's already lived a few years longer than expected and he's still going strong), we were a little nervous he wouldn't be around for all three of them.

We have them all on DVD, but I only ever watch 4-6. 4's my fav even though I agree with many people that 5 is actually the best movie of the bunch. I just love the initial meetings of Han, Luke, and Leia.

And I totally had Leia hair buns all through first grade. All my friends were boys and we'd play Star Wars during recess. I got to be the tough, cool chick with a gun. *happy sigh*

OMG…I sometimes forget the bucket loads of incest there was between those two (your icon). I know fandom talks about it quite easily, but the mind boggles at how big that elephant/gorilla/whatever in the room really is sometimes.

Seriously! And let's face it - George DIDN'T have it all mapped out like he said, because he had Luke and Leia kissing in Empire! *g*

Date: 2007-05-25 10:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] madam-rptr.livejournal.com
He says he had it all mapped out? Oh right. Supposedly it was one big story that he chopped up? RIiiiiiiight. He may have had kickass foresight as to the merch., but if his plan was to have Leia makeout with Luke as a ploy to invoke jealousy, he is one.sick.puppydog. Yee-haw.

My mother was very pregnant with me when Empire Strikes Back came out and to this day blames for not being able to see it in the theater.

The only dream in my life that has stayed consistent is that since I was 4 I've wanted to be Mrs. Luke Skywalker.

Oh and in case you didn't know, Luke shot first.

Have a nice weekend, my dear. I plan on getting a whole ton of sun.

I used to pour a bowl of cereal to share with Luke and Leia when I was 7. (1979) They ate lunch with me, they played at school with me, and were TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY REAL to my wee little brain. *g*

Luke?? Ahahahahaha. Um... sure! Have a wonderful weekend!

We would play Star Wars during recess and both me and my best friend who was also named Christina were Leia. It made total sense then.

*MAJOR HEAD SLAP* HAN! I meant HAN! *sheepish* This is why I should just never, ever comment while at work.

Um... I don't think she sold it. (And ahem, that was Tiff's and mine, we used to climb inside! HAHAHA. We are dorks.) I think it got the bottom busted out from said climbing inside? I could be wrong on that account.

I have a CURRENT OBI-WAN ACTION FIGURE that looks like Ewan McGregor with "Real Slashing Action" -- something that never fails to crack me up.

But no, you totally win the queer award, dork wad, JEEEESUS. (Ahahaha, you're awesome. And by awesome I mean lame.) O_O

Dude. I will say that the first movie I ever remember seeing in the theater was Return of the Jedi. I was three, and Jabba the Hut freaked me out. I still have my posters from when they were re-released, and we went to all three of them in the theater. I will agree. The older ones were so much better.

JABBA! Wasn't he so creepy and awful? I still do the evil Jabba Laugh whenever I want to embarrass my kids or husband. And the Jabba Leutinent talk "Jabba wah neechi acha." __insert Jabba laugh here__

30 years a go I wasn't born yet. But I m a huge Star Wars geek. I met the hubby, [livejournal.com profile] earcmacfithil at a Star Wars movie night I hosted in college. He is a huge fan (personlly I prefer Indiana Jones)and still has pillow cases from when he was a kid.

Well Star Wars A New Hope was playing in the theaters in Portland a year later on the day I was born. (May 29, 1978) So you're not that much older than me.=) I love StarWars but not as much as the hubby or my BFF [livejournal.com profile] jedibuttercup. =)

I thought the first Star Wars was utterly amazing. My kids were thoroughly bored because it's been ripped off 90 million times since then.

(We never owned a Gremlin, but we did have a Hornet)

Hornet! Those were so fun. I had a '76 Fiat for a while. Boy, a bigger piece of junk doesn't exist than that *cough* vehicle.

oh my GOSH, how awesome!! Lucas I don't know if (at this point) I would get that excited about, but HAN? Han Solo. Indy. Yeah, I'd be a little jittery and smiley. *G*

I am wearing my lucky Star Wars tshirt right now! And Han so shot first, it was damaging to change it, I like my reforming bad boy. As for Luke/Leia, I always heard that the original poster (which does not feature Han, FOOLS) has Leia with her arm wrapped around Luke's leg...so that may have been an idea. They edited it out in later posters...though for some reason they still kept Luke all buff despite the fact that he is a skinny dude. He was about the Force dammnit, mind power!
