Loved. It. So incredibly sad that 9 years (I came in a little late) of following this little world is over. I know there is crazy hate out there because of some character's deaths, and I was very shocked when Fred died. I may have gasped, I'll neither confirm nor deny. (My son is reading upstairs and I heard him moan when Hedwig died. :( He's an animal lover.)

I had tears running down my face when Harry's parents/Marauders came to shield him as he went to face Voldemort. I love that people were flawed. That no one was really what they seemed (except for Hermione, go go girl power.)

And holy crap, Molly Weasley with the You Bitch! capslock! WOOOOW. (I... I didn't buy Percy. I am SORRY FLOWERINGJUDAS. He is a weasel. Came through in the end, but still. *cries for Fred*)

...many many tears for Snape in the end.

I may have to re-read this whole book again. But I need to actually go to sleep at some point...

And now: TO THE FANFICTION MOBILE, AWAAAAAAAY! (If I could get some Hr/R Grimmauld Place sexin', that would be awesome. I HAVE NO SHAME, PEOPLE.)

WANK:

Okay, the Hr/H aka Harmonians may be the craziest of the shippers, and that's saying something. (Because the Filch/Squid shippers are RELENTLESS.) I like how some of them are claiming to be willing to give up: FOOD, SHELTER, and their beloved PETS for the book to end with H/Hr together, happy as they were always meant to be. WHAT. (One girl says she's trade HER ARM. TWICE.)

Here we have the Potterdammerung Bingo Wank Card! Ahahaha. That's awesome.

I'm waiting for the Severus Snape Astral Wives to have sightings. That's when we know the Potterdammerung is in earnest...

[ETA] There needs to be an icon that has Voldemort, hearts, and H/Hr reading: Voldy Ships Harmony! Ahahaha. (Oh, ouchie Ron. I'm re-reading this stat. I <3 Ron Weasley)

[ETA 2] Where is the Mrs. Norris/Transfigured McGonagall femmeslash? (I'm not the only one interested, come on.)

[ETA 3] This image is made of complete and utter GOLD. I laughed for a good five minutes.

[ETA 4] (last one. I think.) "I have a degree in literature, which means I know when my ship is being wrecked by the author, I thank you!" Except not so calmly stated. Warning: CAPSLOCK OF RAAAAAAAGE. And... your microwave manual can count as literature? *scratches head*

[ETA 5] Heee! Encyclopedia Dramatica brings the lulz. (heads up: it's about trolls and spoiling people!)

Also, it would be funny if someone made an icon with Mr Diggory scream-crying "That's my booooy! It's my son!" over Fred's dead body. And then Arthur can look all confused. Just me, then? [/inappropriate humor]

Crap: if anyone can find the link to the post where the Snape fan rages because of how he was treated by JKR, and this fan KNOWS Snape because they DREAMED THEY WERE SNAPE, I thank you, then that would be superawesome.

I AM STILL CRYING GOD DAMN IT!!!!!!

Though on a wanky note as soon as I read the "She's like a sister" line I immediately said "Oh the Harmonians are going to shit a brick."

Aloud. To my cats. Because they care.

I started tearing up just TYPING this. Oh! Oh! The TEACHERS when Harry gets back! I was so happy and overcome, and it's a BOOK but I don't care. I loved it.

Hahaha, there were a couple of moments that I thought the Pumpkin Pies could be all "see? It's CODE for Harry/Hermione! the way that Ron left? UH HUH!"

McGonagall is my favoritest character, EVER.

Even more than Hermione, or Lupin (who was clearly bullied into marriage while he was fragile from mourning Sirius - what? You're all thinking it.)

I LOVE MCGONAGALL. (All the McGonagall is evil theories made my heart ache.) She bows to NO MAN! I love how strong that woman's spine is. <3 Flitwick! When he beefed up security and Harry felt a wind rushing around him? I CANNOT EXPRESS MY LOVE, OMG.

Heee! I never EVER understood - from my own interpretation, I can see why people ship what they ship - the Remus/Sirius ship. Ever. (because clearly it was Sirius/James.) :D

Ooooh, I'd love some McGonagall in school fic! I think I've read (a long time ago) some Arthur/Molly Hogwarts courtship fic... It exists...somewhere?

Ooh! [livejournal.com profile] rinsbane wrote this REALLY AWESOME McGonagall-through-the-ages fic that starts when she's young at Hogwarts. I'll try to find you the link if you're interested. (Fic 'ships McGonagall/Tom Riddle, McGonagall/Dumbledore, McGonagall/Snape and, actually, kind of McGonagall/Augusta Longbottom. It's interesting.)

I've studied archetypes in literature, so I link elements of differing stories by their structure.

The "sister" line? Totally Luke and Leia! I was so amused when I read it! Alas, knowing the Wizard can't come back in myth arcs annoyed me, so I never really got confused by Dumbledore's appearance, but I really wanted to be wrong and see him return. Ah, well.

I hated Fred's death. Seemed so tossed aside. As did Remus/Tonks. Blast.

From: [identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com
Ahaha, Luke/Leia! And how funny that it started off being their love story? Oh, George.

Speaking of George (Weasley this time), my heart just broke for him when Fred died. They're so close. (And I thought they would go unscathed when George lost an ear!) Remus/Tonks just felt weird this whole book. I was never invested in them as characters, though.

I can't believe she killed Fred...I didn't just gasp, a full flood of tears came on. Is it a little sad I'm super worried about George now?

Ha, when Harry said the sister line, I felt like JK was poking the H/Hr shippers with a stick saying "NO you crazy people, NO. SEE? FAMILY!"

I want some Ron/Hermione Grimmauld place fanfic, let me know if you find any. Or some tent love, tent love could be cool.

The Marauders was the hardest part for me too, they always made me cry, even just thinking of them. Its good that in the end they ended up together as they should be.

Serious Snape love here too, love that she gave him a strong back-story!

ME TOO WITH THE GEORGE WORRY!! Oh, twins! :'( That little branch of fandom is going to EXPLODE in the next few days, you watch.

I totally got that Jo was slapping the Harmonians on the knuckles, too. She's done that since HBP - they're so rabid in their writing letters to her. o_0 (Ooooh, tent love! I will rec those if I find good ones!)

I re-watched GoF yesterday, and when Lily calls Harry "sweetheart" and says "let go!" with such motherly emotion... Bawl every time. I loved that they protected him as he walked to his death. I had heard hints from fandom for a few years that Snape loved Lily, so that was really gratifying for him to be better fleshed out with such a story.

Agreed, it was amazingly good, despite the fact that she had so much to do. She tied up almost all the loose ends. The scene where Harry basically witnesses his parents murder? Genius, I've been dying to know what went down forever!

Ha, when Harry said the sister line, I felt like JK was poking the H/Hr shippers with a stick saying "NO you crazy people, NO. SEE? FAMILY!"

I just finished it -- and had it immediately grabbed out of my hands by Ron, who is now hiding in the bedroom with the book.

I was steeling myself for the heartbreak of losing people (although I never seriously entertained the notion Harry would die). Somehow I thought one of the twins might die, it just seemed likely. But Dobby? That was a total surprise. Also I didn't think both Remus and Tonks would go out bang! Just like that.

One regret I have about the book is that we didn't see Harry and Snape have a chance to talk. But that's the way real life is; death doesn't wait to let us air out all those feelings we've been bottling up.

Date: 2007-07-22 02:29 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com
Fortunately, my inlaws decided to order us one (and not tell us!) SO I have the book I picked up last night (grocery store; I waited all of ten minutes! Who knew?) and the Mister is sitting with a cup of coffee and reading greedily. He informed me that he's not stopping until the end. I love making fans. :D

And we took the kids to see OotP yesterday, and I realized there was a clue in the changing of the prophesy in the movie: NEITHER CAN LIVE while one survives, is what it says in the movie. So. I figured they were going to kill Harry. I sobbed when he was preparing to die, too. And while she kept her word that Harry would die, he didn't. Which is awesome. :)

(I had in a panic emailed [livejournal.com profile] southernbangel about my fears of Harry dying. I'm glad he ends up alive. *g*)

And I thought the handling of a lot of deaths - while hard - was a good way to show that that's how it is in life: death is messy and unexpected often. And I am just devastated on George's behalf. :(

OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S OVER! I did exactly as I predicted: picked up the book and without even opening it, burst into tears because it was the last one and I will never have a new "Harry Potter" book again.

I was put through the mill on this one; laughed, cried, etc. Ultimately, if I were editing the book, there are...hmmm...three chapters, one birth, four or five deaths, and six names I would've changed.

But that didn't stop me from falling in love.

I admit it, I read and completely disbelieved the leaked epilogue before this. But in context, with the rest of the book, that ending fit a lot better. The whole thing just...wow. Oh, my God.

Also? How can people say Rowling hates her fen? Look at all the fan service in this book!

Harry: ::appraising Ron in disguise:: "Well, he's not my type, but he'll do."

I actually laughed out loud and said, "There's one for the slashers."

And a soaking wet Harry in nothing but underwear, hugging Ron while he cries?

Money can't buy that kind of fic material! (Well, okay, evidently it could, because it did, but you know what I mean.)

I was just worn out, too. But I'm going to say this, and I'll only say this about HP: I don't want to lose a single word. Not one. Because we'll never get any more, and I need all the words she gave us!

Ooooh, I'm eagerly awaiting all the Harry/Ron fic that will come out of this!

LOVE THIS BOOK. Sure, there may be a few quibbles here and there (several things happened off-screen I wished we had seen, but I understand why she did (and had to) that) but overall, LOVE. Nothing but love, here.

The Trio wins all. 'Nuff said.

George, my heart broke when he was just injured and Fred was so worried. And then Fred DIED and no, just no.

Molly Weasley's CAPSLOCK OF RAGE FTW! I love the Weasleys. I WANT TO BE A WEASLEY.

Dumbledore's backstory. Loved every single bit. Loved how he wasn't this perfect Gary Stu his entire life.

In the same vein, Snape's backstory. I have issues with Snape, until Harry saw his memories in this book I was still on the "Grrr, Snape!" train, but I looooooove how he wasn't portrayed as this giant woobie for love. Yes, he loved Lily all his life, and his love for made him do great and scary things, but he was still an arrogant, cold bastard at times. For the first time, I really liked Snape's character.

LUNA. I swear, I love that girl more and more with each story she's been in.

Family!love. Be it the Weasleys, Hermione wiping her parents' memories to save them, Harry's family, I was a sucker for it all. Like I told you in the email, the part that completely destroyed me and had me bawling like a baby was this simple exchange:

"You'll stay with me?"

"Until the very end," said James.
*flails with massive, massive love*

I have nothing but <3<3<3 for this book.

OMG, my eyes are still puffy and sore.

Best thing from [ETA #5]: Voldemort's own spell backfires on him,and kills him (like a TWAT)! BWAH!
