Whoa Nelly! Multifandom Recs Post

Been reading loads of fics lately, and re-reading old fics from before I knew about LJ. *cracks knuckles* Harry Potter, Buffy/Angel, Jeeves & Wooster, The Office, 30 Rock and Arrested Development. (I'm totally coming out as a closeted HP fic fan in this post.)



Arrested Development
This is a hard hard HARD fandom to write for. Do you write the Narrator? Do you put inserts/camera cut-aways in? Can you get the voices down? This person TOTALLY did. The narration isn't overt, it's hilarious, and it's Maeby and George Michael. Unnamed by callmesandy Short and to the point.

The Secret of Management by iamsab is something I recced last year from the sitcomathon. There were some great fics that came out of that, and this one is mind blowingly awesome. It's an AD/NEWSRADIO crossover. It is utter perfection. It also made me long for Phil Hartman, because Newsradio was a fantastic show. Oh my gosh, GOB in this. Ahahahaha. If you like funny, you'll love this.

The Office

Jim Quits Abruptly After... by kyrafic. She's a solid writer you can count on, first of all. This is Pam/Karen which... I don't buy. She made me buy it. Funny and poignant, just like the show. (All of her Office fic is great. Ditto Buffyverse, FNL...)

Fast Forward to Crazy and All The Way Back a Michael/Jan fic by rcrown. This was suggested to me, and I liked it. Very good characterization - her Michael is hilarious and squirm inducing. More poignant than balls out funny.

Dwight K. Schrute: Tales of a Vampyre Slayer by crackers4jenn Ahahahahaha. Oh my GOSH, I love this story. So. Funny. Takes off from the episode Joss Whedon directed. She says its a WiP, but it's okay where it ends. (But it would be awesome if there was more.) And I would love love LOVE to find a Dwight meeting Andrew fic. O.O


30 Rock

I've found one. I know there are more. Link me if you've got 'em.

Drabbles by michellek Jack/Liz and she makes it work. (What I love about 30 Rock is how they play with the Sam/Diane will they/won't they and make it so they never will. Or will they? Ahaha.) Funny, good character voices.



Jeeves & Wooster

Jeeves and the Blessed Indiscretion by Astolat. (off site link) Oh my GOODNESS. Funny, sexy, funny, perfect PG. Wodehouse style... Perfect.



Jossverse

The funny ones first. Buffyverse/Askewniverse. The Soul of Wit. Silent Bob and Oz. Ahahaha. Awesome. V short but fun. (I'm pretty sure Kyra C is kyrafic? I'm not sure - I just read her stuff, I don't know her.

minnow1212 wrote a lovely and poignant fic, 25 Times People Celebrated in the Jossverse. I love del.i.cious. That's how I found this great story.

From the lynnevitational, which has some awesome fics (masterlist is here) we have by redbrickrose a haunting and dreamy fic, Of Infinite Space. It's long (but worth it) so get a drink and settle in. It's wonderful. Faith centric.

adis723 who just hits my buzzer every time she writes, contributed a Faith/Xander post Chosen fic that is just lovely. Like Soft Serve. The voices are spot on. Funny, a little sad, and sexy. \o/

chrisleeoctaves wrote Angel/Dawn, a pairing I don't usually look for. But... wow, there's a kink I didn't know I had before. Something to Keep. It's achy and darkish.

This has been sitting in my recs folder for a bit and I love love love this. It's funny (oh my god, the scene with Spike kicking out in fear at the laminator still makes me laugh) and it's sexy hot, too. Boys Who Buck And Bite by germaine_pet.

Some nice femmeslash for the Buffy/Faith fans out there. minim_calibre with The Same Old Story. "Maybe Faith just naturally tastes like candy." Mmm hmm, go with that. ;)


Pirates of the Caribbean

*cries for closed canon and the loss of my favorite character, Norrington* Okay, stiff upper lip.

pandarus does justice to my Norrington with this post-trilogy fic, To Sail Beyond The Sunset. *clutches heart* Sentimental, but I don't care. I need more Commodore. :)

violet_quill wrote what I would have said was improbable: a crossover fic with PotC and HP. And that I would like it. I did. Parrot, and it's JACK. At Hogwarts. Ahaha. The cyclical nature of Hermione, a Draco, a Neville... And oh my gosh, Jack Sparrow is JACK SPARROW. At... Hogwarts. Awesome.


Harry Potter

*cracks knuckles* This is the big one. (Um, for those of you who are into Hr/R, most of the... naughty stuff is locked in coms like the Simply Undeniable and Checkmated's "The Bed Chamber." It's all gratuitous porn, but you'll have to be a member. I've not found anything worthy of reccing at The Sugar Quill or the Astronomy Tower, but then, I haven't read every single fic there. If you find something, lemme know.) I've not been to the restrictedsection.org in a looooong time. I need to find my old password. (And most of the old fics I loved are saved on my old PC, which is dead. Wah.)

Epilogue: Rewritten by floweringjudas Were you left unsatisfied with the ending to Deathly Hallows? This might make you happier. Or not. I loved it - very in character. Warning: further character death.

I think this is a Harry/Draco that every one has read, right? Before Peace by furiosity - epic, many many many chapters, very well done. Written long before HBP, so it's been jossed, but don't let that stop you. (It's no longer a WiP - the link is to the prologue, all chapters are linked for easy reading = \o/) Warning: R/Hr are not in this story at all. :(

Another ouchie fic, AU now that DH is out, but it's lovely dark fic. Draco, Harry, Ron, Hermione, etc. (Ron-centric). Truck Driving With the Dead by kennahijja. There's two schools of thought with HP fic, I've found: funny and in keeping with JKR's style, or traditional fanfic/dark style. (Does that make sense? Sure it does.) This one is the latter. It's a long one-shot, but don't let that stop you.

Another Alternative Epilogue (this is going to be a theme for a while in HP, I'm sure) that is Harry/Draco-centric. By maeglenyedi. While I'm a Ginny Weasley fan (I know that's rare) I didn't mind the dismissal of her so much here. H/D fans won't give a damn. :D

Okay, so most Ron/Hermione fic is sha-moo-pee. It's the Spuffy of HP. There are some that aren't, but *shrugs* True Loves Way by x_moonshine_x is sentimental, but sweet and just enough angst to be what I needed after reading DH. Man, I don't want that series to be over... :(

Here's a fun Trio-Hr/R fic, A Run In Tights by jenna_thorn. To escape Death Eaters, Hermione dresses Ron and Harry up in drag. Hee! Twee, but well done. Hermione is hilariously dry and in charge. “Why do I have to stay quiet?” “Say refrigerator, Ron." "Re-rid-fr...bollocks." "Right, that's why we have to keep you quiet."

Another cute but to the point drabble, Talk Foreign To Me by sor_bet Hr/R and boy. I would like some language-kink fic, please. (Um, hints at Draco/Hermione. Nice)

Oh, hey. Strip Chess to get to where we want R/Hr? Okay! Strategic Maneuvers by cicatrixstories. Funny and sexy = \o/ Although it stops WAY before I wanted it too. :D The chess pieces getting involved with cat calling is hilarious. (I'm plundering her memories for more good fics to rec later - she's a big Harry/Ginny shipper it seems.)

weatherby has a HILARIOUS Ron/Draco fic (no, seriously - it's AWESOME) based on McSweeny's "Open Letters To People or Entities Who Are Unlikely To Respond." Ahahaha. Ha.

I'm trying to find this one fic written a few years ago with Harry and Ron getting it on in the showers after a Quidditch match. Chicky bow. I'll link if I can remember where I stored the URL...
