  • Chuck! 2 new eps tonight! And now I have the theme song by Cake in my head. I'm okay with that. (Does anyone have any "Smile Smile" songs I might like?)
  • I'm still having difficulty letting some of the bad!fic in this post go. Why penii tentacles? Why is Tony the Tiger in a Speedo at Circuit City? WHY IS THIS HOT?
  • I am starting to plan a trip this early Fall to NYC to hang with [livejournal.com profile] dovil and the thought is making me very happy. 1) NY, can't go wrong, 2) Dovil! She's a fabulous traveling partner. 3) I can pimp her easily to score us a fix (there's a black market on Kiwis, I've been told.)
  • I will not play Guitar Hero today. I will not play Guitar Hero today. ...maybe for just a bit. (Dude, I- *sigh*)
  • My sister has finished all of BtVS and A:tS and has decided that Connor is her favorite. I didn't even PUSH her, y'all! \o/
  • The Woolie Ewe, my local yarnery, has yet to call me on my special order - I have a blanket to finish.
  • I didn't make a pie yesterday, woe. I am making a pie today, yay.

  • I have finished Battlestar Galactica 2.5. I'm in a glass case of emotion about too many things there. GAH. Need S 3 STAT for some resolution!! *scratches inner arm*

Thanks for the offer of room - that's so nice! I usually get free hotel stay, so I don't think I'll have to crash anywhere, but I will be HAPPY to garden with you if I can - man, I looooooove mulching. Mmmm, the earthy smells.

You know who else might be in NYC then? DanRad, who has bought an apartment there and might actually be in Equus on Broadway this fall, where I will see his magnificent penis performance in person!

Mmmmmmmm COFFEE. As my cup is empty, YES. Be there as soon as my fwoomp tube is back online. *jams coffee cake in with me*

I'm going to hook up with [livejournal.com profile] dovil, who'll be there in September. We're coordinating schedules, still. I will keep you posted! Also, dun fergit that you can come see me this summer, too!

I have to be packing and working and getting ready for a two day conference that I DO NOT want to attend, although I get to stay in a great hotel for free, and I find being alone in a hotel room very therapeutic. That therapy is ruined by them forcing me to go to meetings. Stoney, tell them to stop!

Instead of getting ready, I am drinking a second cup of coffee that is just as perfect as the first one. Mmmmm.

This summer will happen. The schedule depends on (a) when I can manage to go to a monastery in Scotland, which is really the main part of my sabbatical, and (b) when your pool is finished.

Heee! We plan on starting construction in late March, and it takes about 6 weeks from start to finish. PLENTY OF TIME, in other words. (Our goal is to be swimming by Memorial Day at the latest - it's HOT here by then.)

Um, may I slip into your suitcase and go to Scotland, too?

It looks like I'd make my jaunt across the US in May.

I had this whole witty comment planned out that if you are in my suitcase, I won't have room for clothes (not a comment on your size, on the size of the suitcase), and I'd have to wear you. I meant it in a sexy way, but instead it's very Silence of the Lambs and I'm shutting up now.

There's a The Woolie Ewe on the corner of 15th and Custer in Plano....I think that's right-only went in once when I didn't have the money to spend and went home crying because I couldn't get any of the wonderful yarn...

What type of blanket are you working on? I just finished a baby blanket and a bib for a friend in Houston that is expecting. I'm holding off on starting an afghan until I can buy all of the yarn I need in one visit and figure out how to keep the cat out of it while I am working on it...wet yarn from a cat chewing on it isn't all that nice. :)

That's the only Woolie Ewe I know of. I'm just making a wool, striped blanket - I decided to make it larger than originally planned, which was dumb, because I need one more skein and of course, they're out of it. Bah! Hopefully I can get a close match.

*lays out all the materials, zomg*

So, I have this wonderful Shetland wool in gold, burnt umber, and a heathered burgundy. Stripes, each block of three in a different stitch for three blocks, then mirrored. I'm making a back-cross stitch border in the burgundy all around it, and that's what I'm waiting for - I think the border will just look great (and I just learned how to do that stitch and I love it.) :D

How goes knitting/crocheting with you?

From: [identity profile] anelith.livejournal.com
My knitting is languishing, I'm afraid. Here's the problem: when I stopped going to the knitting class, I asked for a project that was *simple*. I said, maybe an afghan? They said, that's going to be so expensive! So much yarn! I didn't think so, but I thought maybe I'd better take their advice. So the teachers gave me this project for a felted handbag -- not too much yarn, they said it was simple, didn't require any help from the teacher. Which was good since I had no time to come to the class anymore.

Fast forward to January. Here I sit, stuck after only a few rows. Why? Because the pattern requires something VERY NOT SIMPLE. At least not for me, a beginning knitter.

I like projects that require just rows. I enjoy any stitching you want within that row, up to and including cabling; yarn overs, skipped stitches, etc., but once you start to have to *shape* the knitting that's when I get into trouble.

That project is sitting in my bag. I've started to knit some simple squares for donation to charity, we'll see where that goes. I think if my squares for donation work out nicely, I might do an afghan for myself.

But your afghan sounds GORGEOUS! Pictures? Please?

Hee hee to your icon!

Date: 2008-01-25 09:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com
When it is finished, I'll def. take pictures!

Oh, ugh, I know what you mean about unfinished projects. I wonder if you could turn that handbag into a square shape? I am terrible about decreasing/increasing stitches, too. It requires me to focus on the work, instead of whatever I'm doing while crocheting. *G*

Like, make a long rectangle, then fold it in half and close up the sides? I like the idea of knitting squares for charity - that's something you can whip out and have immediate gratification.

(And I'm up to... 14 skeins for this blanket? *gulp* The biggest one I made was for my brother-in-law after the mister and I got married. 20 skeins! I hear he gave it to his roommate after their dog chewed it up. I was... glad to hear it made such a great dog bed. *cries*)

He did WHAT NOW?!!! First their dog chewed it UP, then he gave it to his ROOMMATE????

*ok, imagine me typing this with my eyes popping and my fingers flying, because I am BOGGLED, Laura, BOGGLED*

I'm crying right along with you. That is... a crime.

My great-aunt crocheted two afghans for me lo these many, many years ago, and I still have them. And use them. Hey, it gets cold these evenings up here! We keep them right by the sofa and pull them out when we're watching TV. I'm grateful to have them. Now, I will admit that they don't quite go with the furniture, so when I have thoughts of making my own afghan I think hmmm, maybe one day I'll have a go myself, and pick my own colors.

Did I see you say something in comments about painting your living room? With those high ceilings? Ulp. You be careful up there. Oh dear. You're a brave woman!

Phew. I just finished painting everything I could reach on my 20 ft. ladder. (And even if I stepped on the "Do Not Step Here" step, I wouldn't be able to reach the tippity top, so we're renting a 30ft. ladder tomorrow to finish up the remainder. OoooOOoooh, I love how warm and inviting it looks now, instead of those clinical white-ish walls. (I have no fear of heights at all - I'm pretty confident up there)

You should make an afghan! Just start off easy and keep making your squares, then find one solid color to bring them all together! If you break it into pieces like that, it might seem less daunting? I love crocheting in cold weather - movie weather. :) And I'm right there with you on having blankets within reach. It's 28 today! Granted, we'll only be this cold for a week or two, then back up into warmer weather, but still!

I went to Joanns a few weeks ago and got this fantastic faux fur that was SO soft. It didn't quite match, it was a deep hunter green, but it was so soft, I couldn't resist. 1 3/4 yard of that, and 1 3/4 yards of some microsuede, and I have a blanket for those cold nights of reading. (When I can wrestle it away from the cats/kids/the Mister, that is. *G*)

Aren't those keep sake blankets so terrific? I'm with you: I don't mind if they don't match. I wish I still had this multicolred blanket my grandma made. I think a cousin ended up with it. A real treasure, those are!

Holy carp, it's satan in cat form. Instead of the office that's littered with pictures of baby kittens and horsies I want to print these all off and stick them on my wall - it'll stop people bringing me work at least.

NEW YORK, BABY! That's going to get really old, really quick. If it helps you can punch me in the face when we meet up. And you are a super fab travelling companion and all, especially now that I just know to pack hair ties with me (you can punch me in the face for referencing that as well).

Another director (he was the editor on Blood on the Highway wants me for a new movie he's working on. AWESOME.

Fantastic! That is just excellent news! This is how careers get started, it's knowing the people in the biz (or 'the business', for those civilians not in the biz). After you've finished punching me in the face I'm totally asking for your autograph. Maybe you can play a whorish groupie and Guitar Hero can be your prep work - it's the method darling!

I freaking love the face on that cat. I want a bra with that face on each cup. Talk about people not bringing me anymore work...

You know what would be awesome, is if we walked around in black socks and white sandals with "I ♥ NY" shirts and took a lot of pictures of everything. I think we'd blend in nicely.

Also awesome: I'm bringing charcoal pills so I don't throw up (elegantly or not) while out partying with you. I'm bringing roofies, too. It'll be fun!

...are you hoping for a more painful, yet cheaper form of plastic surgery by all that punching in your face? I told you already: black eyes are soooo '07. Ruptured spleens are the new thing. *punches your gut*

OH YES! And I want to wear a fanny pack, only because of the name, because it means something ENTIRELY different where I come from and I will snicker madly behind my hand. I also want to take a large map around with me, the kind that you can never fold back up and just flaps about taking out people's eyes.

And dude, I'm just tying a bag around your neck and being done with it. Bend over, bleurgh, time for another drink. Let's be efficient here! Chop, chop, no time wasting!
