[livejournal.com profile] moosesal gave me a prompt for a music meme, songs with the letter "P" in them. You're only supposed to do 5, but I can never just do 5 songs. They're after the jump.

I made a joke yesterday about having disappeared, and realized there were several more references I could have made, after a thread with [livejournal.com profile] tabaqui.

  • Marshall, Will, and Holly (on a great expedition.) They survived the greatest earthquake ever known, high on a mountain, where their raft started to toss. Resulting in their being plunged down, deep below. They were [dramatic pause] in the Land of the Lost [insert echo]. The Land [dramatic pause] of the Lost. [echo] This has been Chaca NoGo, reporting live. Well, if you lived millions of years ago. On our 11 o'clock news, we'll hear the "real story" about these crystal thieves from the locals, the Sleestaks.

[recorded interview] "Hiiiiiiiiiisssssssssssssssss!" [translation at bottom of screen: we had these teleporters set up all over our side of town so moms could zip off to the store, you know? And they'd come in, grab the "pretty rocks" And there you have the Mrs. stuck with an arm full of groceries, and the babies without dinner. I mean, come on!]

  • 1.2 jiggawatts. Except I TOTALLY would not have dated my mom, even to get back online.

Okay, I'll quit now before I embarrass myself. (Too late!) La musica!

(All songs on "Box.net" except for Floyd, because they're too big. They're on Sendspace.) Start off with the slow one, then we move to the groove.

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond parts I -V and VI - IX The guitar lick on this is haunting. Plus, it's about them being sad about Syd Barrett going insane and having been the brightest star of them all. There's the myth of him walking into the studio while they were recording this (it was actually Wish You Were Here, another song about him) and no one recognizing him because he shaved his eyebrows and head and was overweight. It made Watters cry, and no one ever saw Barrett again. :( The song is beautiful, however sad the story behind it is.

Proceed - The Roots If you don't know by now that I friggin' love the Roots, then it's like you don't know me at all. Such a funky groove for a fun, funky song.

Pinball Wizard - The Who I've been on a Tommy kick, even though I don't really care for most of the songs on that album. That kid, he's got such a supple wrist. But come on: how do you think he does it? (I don't know!) What makes him so good? Don't have no distractions, can't hear no buzzers and bells, don't see lights a flashing, plays by sense of smell...

Psychobilly Freakout - Reverend Horton Heat Anyone with GH2 knows this ass-kicker. This is a group from DFW, and they're assholes, but I love their music. One day I will rock this on expert, DAMMIT. (Note: this is the real version, not the slimmed down game version.)

Pretenders - Middle of the Road I've got a smile for everyone I meet. A) I love Chrissie Hynde. B) I love the Prentenders. C) I dare you to listen to this and not do the "brrrrrrrrr, neeeeeeeeeeer!" sound she makes. (Tatooed Love Boys is my favorite by them, however. I just didn't want to be completely GH2 in this post.)

Parliament Funkadelic and George Clinton - Flashlight DOOOOOOD. Get your skates on and someone join me at the center so we can do the whip. (I totally want another pair of old school skates that have the flashing light wheels. Yes, I have a pair of gold-n-glitter roller skates, don't you?) DANCE, SUCKA!

Punjabi MC - Ultimate Banghra Mix First, it starts off with Slick "I just got off!" Ricks's La Di Da Di (we like to party, we don't cause trouble, we don't bother nobody) Then it busts into the awesomeness that is banghra, but turned into a dance track. I freaking love this stuff. Awesome to listen to and groove around the house accomplishing things. DO the little finger motions and head tilts for full effect. :D

Public Enemy - One Million Bottlebags Chuck D is the greatest voice in Rap, period. I cannot suffer arguments to this. Remember when Fla-vor Flaaaaaaaav was quirky and had something to say? it's hard to forget the psycho clown he's become. Anyway, I love Public Enemy, and it's STILL one of the greatest concerts I've ever been to.

Portishead - Nobody Loves Me (It's true. Not like you do.) I know it's weird to go from PE to Portishead, but this is how my brain works. This song is a cure for a hot day, btw.

Primary - The Cure Oh my god, how I ached and listened to all of my Cure albums as a teen. Robert Smith was so sexy. I see pictures of him now and I want to cry. (which is kind of what the song is about...) They still rock, in my opinion.

Prince - Black Sweat the last good song he's done. (Ugh, Planet Earth was awful.) I love me some O+}>. He's quite possibly the greatest RPG character I've ever played, ahahahaha. Good times, man, good times. "I'm hot, and I don't care who knows it, I've got a job to do. Workin'! Workin' up a black sweat!"

That's probably a good place to stop, otherwise, I'd be here all day.

Oh, wait, one last one! Planet Unicorn Theme Song ahahahaha! Oh my god, I love this little ditty. It's SO PERFECT. Give it up for Feathers, y'all. Ooooh, Cadillac! (And Tom Cruise!) Oooh, Planet Unicorn, Hey! (It's the "hey" that kills me.)

I'm curious to know what you're taking, just because I find music fun to talk about.

What am I taking? Does massive amounts of caffeine and pastry count? I'm listening to "Taboo: The Exotic Sounds of Arthur Lyman" right now. Love me some vibes and bird calls!

Have you heard anything about Dethklok's live tour?

It sounds like we're on the same meds, except my pastry is in the form of an English muffin, which is possibly pushing things.

Oooh, I love me some bird calls! I'll have to check that out. I have heard about this second tour, they're coming to the House of Blues here! :D (I want tickets to Ozzfest, honestly. I know I'd stand out like a sore thumb, but METALLICA.)

lml -_- lml

You also win bonus points for dry humor, my favorite of the humors.

Oh my god, I am jealous. I've heard that he's even more impressive and awe-inspiring in real life. Can you believe I saw the Sugarcubes open for Public Enemy? Best. Concert. Ever. (Oh, and they were both opening up for Scranton, PA's most famous band, U2.)

I hope you like that Banghra mix - I've got some mashups with Missy "misdemeanor" Elliot and Jay-Z, too.

He is completely awesome in real life, just amazing. The Sugarcubes & PE! Aww man I'm jealous of that.

Oh I did a small music post here http://bitchygrrl.livejournal.com/212305.html
you may or may not have some of these.

I don't care if he's gotten old and fat and has an unfortunate red lipstick habit (oh, Fat Bob, black lipstick is a classic, you should have stayed with it), I CAN'T WAIT to see them on the 20th at Madison Square Garden. I never got to see them back in the day and NOW I CAN.

We will not discuss the random bar hookup I had because the guy looked like a 6'6" old-school Robert Smith with a tongue piercing.

*holds fist up in solidarity* Sister, I've done the same thing, and it was for a Michael Hutchins look-a-like. We will speak no more of our foolish past. :D

The very first concert I ever attended on my own was The Cure. Fucking. Awesome. And I was so naive, I thought I was passing a cigarette down the row (I didn't partake) and thought how odd that people were sharing smokes. HAHAHA!!

The first concert I ever went to on my own was the Stray Cats, and my friends stopped before we got there to toke up. They knew better than to even offer me any!

Ah, Michael Hutchence. INXS holds up pretty well after all these years. I was young and impressionable when "The One Thing" was in heavy rotation on MTV, but my heart belonged strictly to Bowie in those days.

Side note, my dad worked as a studio musician on the Stray Cats first breakthrough album.

And pretend I know how to spell M. Hutchence's name. I suck. UNGH, Bowie. Oh, those videos! Blue Jean was a personal favorite, especially if they showed the long version.

Please tell your dad from me just how fucking awesome he made my freshman year of high school.

*happy sigh* Bowie. My first exposure was "Let's Dance" and I was a goner. "Blue Jean" was lovely but I was already well hooked by then.

And can we file a complaint with the universe that Bowie and Trent Reznor did not make out during the "I'm Afraid Of Americans" video? NO JUSTICE.

I'm totally nitpicking here, but several of these are bands/artists that start with P. It's supposed to be songs that start with P. ;-P

But good stuff anyway. *mwah!*

Eh, free music, take it or not. :)

Heeeeeee!
Um.
I'm not taking anything, as i'm a weirdo. I almost never listen to music. It means i can't hear what's going on in the house/outside and it makes me very, very twitchy.

Hey again! A couple of these I already have from you -- Flashlight and Ultimate Banghra Mix, both so fun and I love them. And Middle of the Road -- I love that whole album, but I took Tattooed Love Boys because I don't have that one, so thank you! I also took Proceed and Black Sweat. Yay, new music!

And you are so funny with Land of the Lost. *snort*

Yay! Lots of cool music!

I grabbed the Parliament, Public Enemy, Pretenders and the Cure. The Cure was one of my first concerts, too. They were playing with Love & Rockets and The Pixies. It was an awesome show, but I got mugged after. That's what I get for lying to my parents I guess. Still, a very good time.

Thanks for the tunes!
