1. My son is upstairs singing "Master of Puppets" by Metallica. It's like hearing the Vienna Boys Choir sing metal. (His voice has yet to change, you see.) Also, is it strange that my 6 1/2 year old knows the words to "Psycho Killer" by the Kinks TALKING HEADS? (UM, sorry. The Kinks were playing in the background. My subliminal mind is stronger than my conscious mind...) Or is that AWESOME? I'm going for #2. (At least there's no Hannah frickin' Montana in my house.)

2. I have finished Serentiy and will now embark on all of your awesome recs from last week, again: THANK YOU!!

3. I'm curious as to people's preference in how they read fanfiction, meaning, how to you like it doled out? This is for anyone who reads fanfic, regardless of fandom. And awaaaaaaaay we go!

[Poll #1203325]

4. I think it's ADORABLE how y'all up north are wilting under the 90+ degree temperatures. Hey, know what we call that here? May. Wanna know how we deal with it? AIR CONDITIONING. And cold alcohol. We've been hovering in the 100s with 45 mph winds from the dry, dusty lands of Mexico. For 8 straight days, 100s + hot winds that knock you off your feet and they don't even die down at night. THAT my friends is misery. But the winds are gone today and the community pool is sparkling, but not as much as the condensation on the side of my glass of lemonade. Ahhhhhhhhh.

Hrmmmmmmm.
I can't do the poll 'cause i don't really see my choice. If a fic is complete i'll generally open a new tab to the main page of it, the tags page or the memory page for all the parts and read. Off-site is okay so long as it's not something funky, like purple stars on pink or whatever.

I think the heat feels more miserable 'up north' because it's generally accompanied by a humidity that hovers in the 90th percentile. Gaaaaah. It feels like breathing through a wet, hot blanket. And trying to walk around swaddled in one. Yerk.

Most definitely awesome.

Hee, you all are TOUGH. MAY??? That's MAY? May here is rain and temps in the 50's. We're delicate! We need a little heat-em-up foreplay before we get to the full on sweat-through-everything stage. :P

Now I want a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup. I BLAME YOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUU!

Re: #4. Ahahaha, god yes. WELCOME TO THE SOUTH. Which is why when I see HGTV shows in the South, and the house shows a window unit, I laugh at the poor fools who will be MISERABLE come summer. Window units? CENTRAL A/C IS HOW I SURVIVE.

Oh, we get humidity, too. It dies down come AUgust, but then it's in the 110+s and just oven hot. Bleh. I think the problem the Yankees have is the lack of A/C! Because... you don't really need central heat and air way up north, I believe. We looooove our A/C here, though.

We usually hit the 90s at the first of May and it stays that way all month long before hitting triple digits come "real" summer. But then, our winters are in the 40s for the most part, so there's your trade off. I'm a BABY in the wet, harsh cold. Dry desert winters? Yes. Chicago and points further East? KILL ME.

I think we all need peanut butter cups. THEY ARE SO GOOOOOD.

Hey! This part of the Northern Tier hasn't seen 60F more than five times since the 11th of March (the official meterorological beginning of Spring, according to the Official Meterorologicl Declarers of Things) and has been declared the coldest spring since 1917.

These things need to be better distributed.

Julia, my herbaceous peonies are in hard bud, for the most part.

My poor sister has a window unit in her apartment. I told her to stop living in quaint old houses that are 100 years old and GET WITH THE TIMES. AIR CONDITIONING. Greatest invention y/y??

Tack on humidity and then we can talk. Ugh, the Mr. grew up in Houston, or as I call it: the crotch of the US. Bleh. He brags about mowing lawns as a teen in the "double 95s." 95 degrees and 95% humidity. KILL ME.

I'm teaching myself the bass line on my sweet new Gibson, and she likes to strum on her wee guitar along with mom. :D

How freaking awesome would War Pigs be? Or any of the Iron Maiden songs? I'M JUST SAYING.

Adorable schmorable! I know hot honey; I lived in St. George for 11 years. 120 in the shade, sinking into the asphalt if you go outside. I KNOW hot.

This? This is different. This is walking outside into a fucking wall of wet cotton that threatens to suffocate you with every breath. This is a SAUNA all day long, not just for 20 minutes. I woke up the other morning and couldn't see out my windows. they had fogged over like your bathroom mirror does with condensation.

And air conditioning is great. As long as your unit doesn't freeze up or die or the violently scary thunderstorms that accompany said sauna don't cut off your power.

I'm just sayin...

And I prefer to devour fic all at one sitting thank you. Fics doled out a chapter at a time make me itchy. And impatient.

I'm so pleased that you've finally found the wonder that is Firefly. It's a beautious thing killed before it's time.

And you are just plain beautious. *snug*

But that's a dry heat, honey, come on, now. :D Ugh, what's really horrible is Phoenix in August when it's 120 + the monsoon bringing all that wet. BLEH. Or Houston, any time of the year.

Man, did I love Firefly! LOVE. Gah, to executives killing things before their prime! I want four more Serenity movies, thank you!!

I'll be posting an LDS missionary m/m over on insanejournal all in one fell swoop, incidentally. HI BABY!! I MISS YOU. *hugs you to bits*

Ohh, don't come up heyah anytime from Dec through March, then. Temps between -15 and 20 (that's a HIGH!) and SNOW, SNOW, SNOW. BLEH.

Actually I'd rather have the heat. *moves Southward* :P

Peanut butter cups on real vanilla bean ice cream. Hnggh. I was gonna have a salad and chicken for lunch, but now I'm re-thinking my menu plan.

I braved Ann Arbor for the BFF in January, and that was it. Nope, cannot understand how y'all can live in the cold. It can kill you easier than the heat! And that poor brave soul worked OUTSIDE. In -40 degrees, breaking ice in water troughs and hauling pounds of feed that weighed as much as she did. Yowza, no thanks.

Salad? Chicken? If by salad you mean a "Mexican flag" and guacamole, and that chicken is mesquite grilled and served over tortillas with melted cheese and refried beans (salsa and jalapeƱos on the side) then I can understand your lunch choice. :D

Damn, I need a Tex-Mex icon.

Um?
Pretty much everybody i know has AC *and* central heat. It gets damn cold in the winter and unless your old and cheap frugal, or really damn poor, you've got AC. At the very least, a window unit somewhere.

Of course, it costs an arm and a leg and a lot of people try to make do with window fans and such for as long as possible but.... New houses *all* have central air/heat, and pretty much every apartment built after 1980, too...

Dude. I read how it got up to 90 degrees and they closed all the schools. ::snickers:: Average year, it's in the 90's and higher here by the end of April, and it don't cool down below 85 till at least December.

Wash. state was getting SNOW

Well, only above 2000 feet. Which is, like, where we usually get snow in January. Thence, this is Juneuary, 2008.

I'm all for the more even distribution of thermal resources; it's too wet to weed (not wanting to set up all sorts of ungal plant infections, y'know?) and the velvet grass and bedstraw just LOVE this weather.

Julia, will have to do massive weeding before I can plant a damned thing

Wait, what?! They closed the schools? Man, we'd have 4-6 month school years if they did that. Fl. has similar weather to us in East Texas, minus the steady two months of triple digits we get. But y'all have FAR more humidity there than we do north of Austin. THANK GOODNESS.

Brilliant! I hope you find one.

You totally got me, btw: I ended up making beans, corn, salsa, cheese & lettuce, all spiced with enchilada sauce. And a mint iced tea on the side. \o/
