Just so we can all be clear: I plan on keeping the playlists (and a copy of each CD) on my HD. If you find that you would like an additional CD, WHEN I AM THROUGH WITH THE LIST, let me know and we can make arrangements to get you more, if you would like, that is. I would hate for the people who got onboard late to be forced to wait longer. (You know, you aren't supposed to get seconds until everyone has had firsts...)

And let's also be clear that I am tickled pink by the response I have gotten so far! For those asking to reciprocate in someway, here's what I want: I want holiday cards. You pick the holiday. Just keep my return address and send me a card when you think about it. This is not a requirement, however.

This next CD is for [livejournal.com profile] chantal87, and incidentally, she got me on the CD kick by making me a kick booty ABC cd a few months back. Michelle, here ya go!

Midnight - I am envisioning a night divided. midnight is usually the make or break it point for whether or not the night was a success. The album is equally divided by the "good and happy" and the "crap! What happened to my night?" songs.

1. Night Train, James Brown. nobosy can get you in a good mood like the hardest working man in show business.
2. Gardening at Night, R.E.M. For one: I have done this. For two: it's a terrific song.
3. Moondance, VanMorrison. I'm operating on what I call the Muslimic Theorem, where by every third CD made will contain Moondance by Van Morrison. And it's a kick ass tune.
4. Midnight Rider, The Allman Brothers. This makes me think of bad boys in the night. Because that's what the song is about. And everyone wants (needs) a bad boy in the night.
5. Midnight, Yaz. SO perfectly goes with the theme, and I know [livejournal.com profile] chantal87 loves Yaz.
6. When You Sleep, Cake. What DO you do with your hands when you try to sleep? Mine keep me awake a LOT.
7. Moonchild, Cibo Matto. My love for this band knows no bounds. Heard about them while watching the season opener for Buffy, S2. Know the naughty dance with Xander? This isn't that song. But it's the same group, and I think this is their best song.
8. Equinox, John Coltrane. Equinox means two celestial bodies evenly spaced, but I'm using it as the exact middle of this CD. Goodness and light at one end, a night not right (or a night needing SOMETHING) at the other.
9. 'Round Midnight, Thelonius Monk. This is the song the jazz band plays when everyone else leaves and the janitor stops sweeping to listen to. And shake his head and say "fuck it," and stop sweeping all together. It's the soundtrack to night when everyone has gone home.
10. Satellites, Doves. Again, a band that I love love love. I think of sneaking out at night and laying out in the grass, waiting for my boyfriend to show up so we can just hang in the cool and watch the stars. But he probably doesn't show up, and I get busted. This is THAT song.
11. Sweet LullabyDeep Forest. A bit of a palate cleanser, a little funky with tribal rhythms. I love it for trying to smooth out before sleepy time.
12. The Heart of Saturday Night, Shawn Colvin. Beautiful voice. Heart-breaking song. Don't normally go for "contemporary folk" but I know this song is great. This one is for when you are trying to make a night something that it can't be.
13. I'm So Tired, The Beatles. Because look at what all you've done tonight! Look at the time! :-)
14. This Night Has Opened My Eyes, The Smiths. Oh, I feel 16 again listening to this. Angst, the UK, sorrow for the world, but more than anything else, sorrow for yourself. I heart Morrissey and Johnny Marr.
15. Good Night, The Beatles. Because I would really like you to be able to sleep to this CD.

[livejournal.com profile] leeannaray, you're up next!

This is just...wow. I cried over the "Fred" list and this one *is* midnight. And dood, any time you can use "Moondance," you so should. And Cibo Matto! I thought I was the only one who liked them (remember I'm from Oklahoma - I'm the only one here who *knows* Cibo Matto.) I discovered them through that weird Lennon obsession I had, and then when I saw them on BtVS, squeed repeatedly.

I LOVE Cibo Matto. Any band that can make a spoon funky and cool, it's a winner. And their song "Sugar Water" is so PERFECT for her sexy Xander dance. I STILL get tingly at that scene. Mainly because of NB's face when SMG is grinding into him. Guh.

I think "Fred" is my wad, and I have shot it... Except: I have a Wes request, and I am going to rock that one, too.

it's funny because I can't really think of one Wes song, but I'm apparently inspiring your list, so that's synergy.

(OK, I can think of ONE Wes song, which is "Paradise" off of Springsteen's "The Rising" -- SO Wes at the end of "Shells" but I know your sentiments on Bruce ;))

I'm giving you the lyrics anyway :) -- so Wes/Illyria:

Where the river runs to black
I take the schoolbooks from your pack
Plastics, wire and your kiss
The breath of eternity on your lips

In the crowded marketplace
I drift from face to face
I hold my breath and close my eyes
I hold my breath and close my eyes
And I wait for paradise
And I wait for paradise

The Virginia hills have gone to brown
Another day, another sun goin' down
I visit you in another dream
I visit you in another dream

I reach and feel your hair
Your smell lingers in the air
I brush your cheek with my fingertips
I taste the void upon your lips
And I wait for paradise
And I wait for paradise

I search for you on the other side
Where the river runs clean and wide
Up to my heart the waters rise
Up to my heart the waters rise

I sink 'neath the river cool and clear
Drifting down I disappear
I see you on the other side
I search for the peace in your eyes
But they're as empty as paradise
They're as empty as paradise

I break above the waves
I feel the sun upon my face

See how perfect that it is that you already have the album and can listen to it now?? :-D Ha ha ha!! I will concede that the song does typtify the Willyria.

This is the kind of thing I have so far (there will be about 20 songs for him, so I don't think any cats are escaping bags here)
In The Hall of the Mountain King, (Grieg) to represent the relationship between Wes, his Father, and the Watcher's Council. And when Fred chooses Gunn, Please, Please, Please, Let Me, The Smiths.

I promise I'll make you glad you signed up...

oh yeah, sweetie, I want YOUR playlist; I'm just contributing the one song that ever made me think "Wes" -- that "taste the void upon your lips" is the kicker.

See, and I thought this:
"I search for the peace in your eyes
But they're as empty as paradise
They're as empty as paradise"
was IT.

While I was making the Fred CD, the last song (her death in Wes's arms) is Agnus Dei (pronounced ahn-nyoose) and there is a swell towards the end, the passion crescendos, and then a brief silence as the voices come back down to silence. I could SEE Wes in that moment holding her. I love music.

taste the void upon your lips. . .

see, I am obviously operating in a universe where Wes & Illyria are smooching (among other things). I realized after I wrote it that this never actually HAPPENS.

I may not have mentioned today that I love my LJ friends. If not -- I love my LJ friends.

I don't have S4 right now to do my own screencaps (and face it, Wes-paradise-4Qs icons require the scruff). but I'll see what I can find and pass 'em on. also, I should be getting PhotoShop soon -- does that work for icon-making?

Just point me towards some good screencaps and I'll be good to go.

Full Photoshop? Yeah, that certainly work. I just use Photoshop Elements.

If it's not too late, I request passion. I promise you at least one holiday card, maybe two if I decide to buy two kinds again this year. Last year I had one artsy type and the other had a little dancing pig on it (couldn't decide). If you're getting snowed under, though, just email me the addy and I'll send it/them anyway. spikefan (at) gmail (dot) com

*uncontrollable laughter* And here I was thinking you had an especially exciting and unusual birthday tribute all lined up. Kind of like candles on my cake.

(HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AGAIN!!!)
Ah, I never get tired of that. Thanks again.

Please, would you be kind enough to include a lyrics sheet? I'm terrible at figuring out lyrics from songs and I won't even get into some of my unintentionally funny interpretations of lyrics-as-heard-by-me. No, don't ask. Too embarrassing.

If you haven't already decided on everything, I just wanted to add that my eclectic tastes include Celtic, neo-swing, classical, and (especially) 80's Britpop/Europop/new wave. Yeah, I hear cringing going on, but I blame it all on my favorite local college radio station in the mid-to-late 80's. Speaking of which, and mostly off topic, my vote for the king of make-out songs is Freur Doot Doot. Does anyone know the song or agree with me?

There really is no end to your exceedingly good taste is there?
When I doubt my writing powers, I just listen to Morrisey and know that there is no way I could ever write like that. Perhaps I shouldn't do it, but I can't resist lyrics like You have never been in love, until you've seen the sunlight thrown over smashed human bones.

"Hand in glove/ the sun shines out of our behinds" I heart my celibate gay singers.

And spectrum is coming up and should be terrific! If I do say so myself...

Don't be saddened by the music. Music/Makes the people/Come together/(yeah)!

Since I started this project, I have been grooving and bopping. I used to DJ in college for their radio station, and it was a perfect way to unwind from class and such. MUSIC!!!

You're right, sometimes they do write stuff that makes you go Hee! or Huh?

BTW, does Morrisey suffer from Bon Jovi-itis? You know, where they look better as they get older? Had to happen, I can safely say that he was one gay celeb that I never lusted after as a teenager.

I'm sure that spectrum will be wonderful - like I said, you've got very good taste. Evidenced by the playlists you're posting.

So when you say you like all kinds of music, I'm wondering about my two favorite kinds -- do you have any liking for Celtic (Irish, Scottish, Breton) or swing (particularly neo-swing --- mmm, Cherry Poppin' Daddies)?

Also, what do you think of Kate Bush?

These are the kinds of music I love that no one else cares for. Or usually, has heard of.

DUDE!! I JUST ripped a version of "This Woman's Work" and am going to add Brian Seltzer (because he is the best of the neo-swing band's guitarists, and baby, it's ALL about the guitar with Stoney.) I have some Chieftans that are coming up on someone's as well.

"Hell" will appear somewhere, I just have to find a place for it...

I now will have "This Woman's Work" floating through my head all morning -- maybe I'll put it in the car to have for my errands today. You are the first person since my ex-boyfriend and his friends to share my Kate Bush obsession. He was the one to turn me on to her, and to much of my best music.

My most recent music purchase was the 2000 Kornog (Celtic music from Brittany) CD. I thought they had broken up for good long ago, and then found out that they got back together again to make this! Much rejoicing! If you never discovered them, they are such a wonderful band. My friends who play are so astounded by their musicianship, but I'm just dumbfounded by the pretty music. I do love the Chieftains too. I lost touch with which bands were good when we left North Carolina years ago, which oddly enough, was a hotbed of Celtic music -- seemed like every good Celtic band toured through there. So who's good nowadays? I heard the name Dervish through the grapevine...

I saw you friended me and was afraid you had slipped and landed on your keyboard and were, in fact, slowly bleeding to death and accidentally friending people left and right. While animals gathered outside the door.

Glad to see I was wrong! And if you want to jump aboard with a CD project for me, lay it on me. CDs are cheap. And it'll be a good ice-breaker, no?
