I know that not everyone that reads this LJ reads my Mormon blog ([livejournal.com profile] 0hmyheck, but for those wanting some information/more insight into the recent travesty that is the passing of Prop 8 and the Mormon Church connection, I posted about that very thing here and also here, including links to the Church's original plan to stump this back in 1997.

In case you're new, I'm a former devout Mormon from one of the oldest Mormon families, a former Gospel Doctrine teacher (for three years) and I'm sorry if you're LDS and thinking I'm attacking you. I'm attacking the religion, not people. The passing of Prop 8 is an absolute travesty. Walk in someone else's shoes, would ya? *dives back into NaNo*

There was an article in the Sunday N Y Times stating that it was the Mormon's full court press that caused prop 8 to pass.

The second link up there takes to you my LDS LJ where I talked about that very thing. They pretty much bought the election, no doubt about it. SHAMEFUL!!! Shame shame shame on them, and the people that supported this endeavor, imo.

I read "The Secret Garden" again today, so your icon makes me happy.

Every person that stands up to this means the whole world to GLBT folks. We thank you.

My icon makes me happy, too. So serene and peaceful...

Well, I can't claim to know how difficult this has been for you and other GLBT folks, but I know wrong when I see it, and this was just backwards. The first time rights have been taken away! Shameful mess, and shame on those that supported it.

The unfortunate thing about suffering is that one doesn't really know what it's like until they suffer themselves. Sympathy and empathy goes a long way, and really, I'm glad you don't know what it's like to have someone tell you "Hey, you're not a full person, you don't get to have our rights, you should be happy you get to have jobs and vote, isn't that being equal?" That sort of thing. I'm glad you don't have to put up with that. And really, the fact that so many people are mad about this Prop 8 thing is a great sign. Twenty years ago there wouldn't have even been gay marriage in the first place, so it IS a bit of progress. We've just stumbled thanks to closed minds.

But every person like you who uses their voice and dissents is helping us move forward again. So viva le vox, man!
