For two weeks now I have searched every single document on my computer for the final chapter of my book. It wasn't on any of them. Not one. And I don't know if y'all are like me, but when I've written something, and it's been a few days, there's no way I'll be able to write it the same again. I've been in knots, just sick about it. I've not written a single thing since then, which means I fail at NaNo this year, which, whatever.

I ran an errand with my son today (we had a date, aww. He's a cheap date, too. We went to Taco Bell for lunch.) and opened up the console between the two front seats to hide a gift we bought for his sisters and found one of my journals. WHERE THE MISSING CHAPTER WAS, HANDWRITTEN. *FIST PUMP OF HOORAY-NESS!*

OH. MY. GOD. I am so relieved, I can't even start.

I just bought a massive dry erase board and I'm going to whip this puppy into shape and be organized. (I took a book out of [livejournal.com profile] entrenous88's book - that was a suggestion she gave me months ago, whoops!)

Off topic, but funny to me: my 11 year old daughter went with her BFF to see "Twilight" yesterday. (I know. Fortunately, well... just keep reading. They had free tickets, btw.) She texted me as they were leaving the audience:

#2: "Worst movie ever. 'i cant control myself around u.' weirdo!"
Me: "I TOLD YOU SO. It sucks, right?"
#2: "Seriously. 'i like 2 watch u sleep, its fascinating.' GROSS."

(Make sure you read that with the appropriate pre-teen eye roll/weight of the world sigh in your voice for full effect.) That kid is going to turn out alright. :D

OMG! Most steal silly icon! I'll see if I can find who made it to at [livejournal.com profile] who_gets_credit. :-) That icon really is as much crack as the books and movie! X-D

I am working my way through New Moon as we speak. And it is worse then Twilight!!! *groan*

Glad to hear you got your chapters back though. Must have been scary to not know where they were. :-P

Can your daughter hang out with my five year old and be her role model? Things like Twilight make me so afraid for her teen years. *shudders*

Two women have already told me I should go see this movie. *askance*

The key is to get her to read intelligent books before Twilight hits. My #2 had finished "To Kill A Mockingbird" before these came out, so she didn't have any patience for the twilight books, thank goodness!

Yay! for chapter findage! Some times that archaic handwriting habit comes in handy.

By the by, can your 11 year old text my 35 year old cousin. Cousin wants to go see it again. Ugh.

I literally just gasped so loudly at the first paragraph that Mr. Nous sprang up and said, "What, what, what???" LOST YOUR LAST CHAPTER, OH MY GOD!

Whew, I'm so glad you found it. And yay for the White Board of Extreme Organization!

OH MY GOSH I WAS DEVASTATED. It was the perfect ending to the book!! But, oh, how happy to have it in my hot little hands.

And I have to say, if I had listened to you sooner, I would have knocked out even more. Looking at everything laid out in a simple outline is the way to go! Oh, white board, I love you.

AND YOU, TOO, COOKIE PANTS.

Oh, I am so glad you found the missing chapter! I lost my notebook with something I'd been writing before I left DC and I know I am just about ready to give up on the story entirely. I can imagine how much worse it would be when it was part of as major a project as your book!

Your daughter FTW. I am so glad to hear she thinks it's gross not romantic!!

Oh, I'm SO sorry to hear about your notebook! No matter what it is, to lose something you've created is just such a horrid feeling.

haha, I was very happy to hear my daughter and her friend mocking the movie, and they went so far as to question the sanity of the other girls there that were drooling over the whole concept. WHEW.

Thank you. It's really not a fun moment, that dropping "Where the hell did I put this?" followed by the realization that the last time you are SURE you saw something was on the subway INTO the city. *sigh*

That's evidence of some good parenting, there!

O/T -- Gardening question

I have an indoor basil plant that's become infested with thrips. I've being trying the soapy/cooking oil water spray over the plant (twice a day) and pulling off the infested leaves (flushing them down the toilet so the bugs die). However, it doesn't seem to be doing anything and they just keep moving to the uninfected leaves. Any advice on how to get rid of them?

Re: O/T -- Gardening question

From: [identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com
You're going to have to replace the soil. THose little buggers are hard to get rid of. (If you have other houseplants, you might have to do the same for them.)

gently knock off the existing soil, wash off the roots (GENTLY) and then re-pot in clean soil. If you can do this outside, the better, that way the thrips won't take off and land on another plant inside (or in the bag of new soil.)

To insure that they stay healthy, put a couple of pencils or chopsticks in the pot (assuming your plant is this small) and cover with a clear zip-lock bag, or summat. Sun will still get in, the bag will keep humidity in, and the bugs won't have access.

Thanks for the advice. Tonight, I replaced the soil. Got the soil out outside, but had to do the rest of the re-potting indoors. The plant looks a little worse for the wear, but somehow I can already tell it's happier. Under it's gallon zip-lock tent.

I didn't see many adults. Mostly just the eggs in leaves, which all those leaves are now removed. So I'm hoping they'll go away. Currently, I don't have any other houseplants at home. So I'm just focusing on getting my basil bug-free and happy.

My 20 year old sister was telling me that she was driving my 14 year old niece (they're aunt/niece too, not mother/daughter 'cause that would be ick) back to the mall because she wanted to pick up a $30 candle. I asked what was so great about the candle, and she laughed, saying "it's what she imagines Edward Cullen smells like." Ewww.

Your daughter seems to have much more sense than my niece...

Ahh...the whiteboard... doesn't work. First you get excited about color coding and then you realise you can designate a space on it for OMG!SERIOUS_PROJECTS and then leave the rest for DAY_TO_DAY!ACTIVITIES and then you use it to plot out 1-5-10-20 year plans and roadmaps for life...

...and then you realise writing stuff down isn't the same as actually doing it.

Yes, fun times.

And speaking of Twilight "da movie of da book": me and Anna are going to watch it together, at a Spanish cinema, in Spanish (a language I have yet to master) for Christmas. I have proclaimed we will be wearing glitter. She proclaimed we will be giving out popsicles with "Dildo de Edward Cullen" stickers.

PS. I know, I know - I need to get a better "You R the man" icon.

maybe they don't work for you, but it's certainly working at my end. I was able to get in about 10,000 words, in addition to the 9,000+ I transcribed from my notes by looking at my board and seeing what needed to be done.

I'm the kind that when I write things down I actually do it. :)

Oh HURRAY for finding that journal! Whew!

We have a white board too and it really does come in handy. Come to think of it, there are several things on there that still haven't been done... hmmm....

I love that text exchange! :D That girl's got a good head on her shoulders, but that's not surprising, since she's your daughter.

Anne, it was SUCH a relief, I'm sure you can imagine!

(Say, I was thinking of you and the boys today while checking out a website. Are they into building type toys still? I remember you said they've moved past Legos, but what about things like Erector sets and the like?)

Oh my gosh, I kicked butt after organizing everything on my white board. Almost 19000 words written, to be exact! Things just get jumbled in my head, and SEEING it makes all the difference for me.

Good morning or afternoon, Laura!

The boys are not so much into building anymore, although they have bursts where they'll take apart all their old models and rebuild/remix them.

We are finally going to join the rest of the 21st century and allow Santa to bring a game console this year. A Wii, to be exact. You may be able to hear the screams of excitement all the way at your house...

I'm so glad you found that last chapter! But I'm absolutely positive you could have written it again if you'd had to. But I'm glad you didn't have to. \0/

I can never get over how many people say how much they hate Twilight...and yet keep reading it. It is truly the crackiest of all crack. I'm actually thinking of reading it myself just to have said I did. Sort of like anal sex, I suspect the anticipation is way more fun than the actual event. Hee. xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

HAHAHAHA!!! Well, you know my penchant for bad fic, so Twilight totally fits the bill. (Plus, I was fascinated by how much of my old religion was embedded in there. Sheesh.) I think you def. should read it for the LuLz. The first book is mediocre, then they quickly slide into shit-tastic.
