1. Had a fantastic weekend including the best b-day party my son's ever had. What a relief!
2. I do not want to paint another vaulted ceiling again. Yeesh, my back.
3. Speaking of, I moved a good 500 pounds of compost this weekend plus 200 pounds of landscape rocks. But! The new planting bed is ready to be filled, so that's nice.
4. Still enjoying Big Love even though I felt Margene was "acting" I wish she could be more natural. Nikki, however, continues to be utterly compelling on screen. This article pretty much sums up my feelings. Ana needs more back story to make her arc believable. And the Joy books... Yeesh. I knew they existed in RL, but I wonder if that's how they really look: like cattle brochures with their hair and ankles and hands on display to show their worth? Blergh. That show pulls no punches.
5. And I saved the best (for me) for last. The movie I filmed last year, St. Nick, is officially having its world premiere at SXSW this March, which is pretty spectacular. Here's the trailer, and I cannot wait to see it. Whoo hoo, SXSW! (My icon is from the movie)

6. I think a lunch somewhere with a book is in order.

And happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] soundingsea! My b-day notification thing appears to not be working...

The director is quite the Indie darling right now. His shorts are fantastic - you should see those, too.

(Seriously, the two kids in this movie broke my heart. So natural, and they're bro-sis in real life, too.)

What a compelling trailer. That last shot is gorgeous and a little creepy. I usually don't hit the movie portion of SXSW (saving my strength for the music), but I'll try to score a ticket. Congratulations on the premiere!

We pulled the sheets off the plants only to find out it's going to be in the 20's tonight. Drat, now I'm going to have to cover 'em all up again.

Isn't it beautiful? David sent me a long wide shot a few months ago of Tucker (the boy) walking out of a forest and across a field. The music had been added and it was so simple, and so PRETTY. That magic hour of filming - sunset - plus HD = beautiful.

If you end up there, I'm fairly certain there will be a Q&A after the movie, so stick around so we can finally meet face to face!

The whole mood was very creepy, especially with that music. I hope that was the intention? Or maybe it's just me. I'm a big scaredy-cat, and I don't do well with suspense or horror movies. Silence of the Lambs traumatized me for weeks!

I think suspenseful is what they're going for, with an underlayer of sadness.

So no Exorcist movie parties for you and me, huh? :D

I have never seen The Exorcist, and I can't even watch that clip where her head spins around. *hides*

Joy books made me almost cry.
Samara (because she is always The Ring girl) made me crack up when she was standing in the street in her white dress, all creepy like...well, like SAMARA! "Don't leave without me!" and the running! Oh, that girl. I need more of her in the show.
Margene didn't bother me so much as how they were shooting the scenes. It was a bit overkill and could have been better used in a different episode. I know they're trying to deconstruct everyone while the trial is going on because the family net is slowly unraveling, but I think they were shoving it in our faces a little too hard for her character.
And, is it wrong that I had a sick wish for the brother and sister to kiss or something? I know. I'm sick.

AND HOLY SHIT, ST. NICK looks awesome! I wish you were in the trailer but hey, you're in the MOVIE so who cares? That got me all goosepimply.

My company is hosting the Battle of the Bands at SxSW this year, so I think we will have passes. I think the movie looks great, can't wait to see it.

I always called her Samara, too, hahahaha. And the forced aspect of Margene's scenes is both the director and her portrayal. I don't mind her sweet, bubbly innocence most of the time, but it seemed very phoned in to me last night.

Well, my picture is in the trailer? The kids have a bunch of pictures of mom. And hahaha, man, I get the shaft in all the movies. "Hey, red carpet is in 45 minutes. Whoops!"

I LOVED LAST NIGHT'S OFFICE. I missed the last five minutes - the DVR didn't acknowledge the late start, booo.

It is Tucker! And his sister Savannah. I did this before signing with Linda. Those two kids were fabulous, btw. So natural.

Awesome! I'm thinking there's a Q&A after the movie, so be sure to stick around for that, too, if you get to go. :)

Cool!! He looked familiar! I'm going to show this to Linda. :)

Tucker actually stopped acting to play sports with school. But we still have Savannah. Cute kids!

OH NO, he did? (I thought Savannah was good, but Tucker is AMAZING. I bet he'll get back into it after walking the red carpet, LOL!)

The trailer's really beautiful, in a purely visual sense, and there's a nice sense of doom going on in the abandoned landscape.

And a SXSW openng is infinitely cool.

Julia, hoping to nibble on the huge pile of brush today: nothing like having someone come and do chainsaw work and then getting too sick to deal with the results.

I saw a glimpse of you in the photo the boy was holding! Lovely, spooky trailer. Very melancholy.

So glad that the birthday party was a great success! If you feel moved to do so, I'd love to see pics of the renovated bedroom. After all your efforts maybe you could show it off?

I think this might be the best season of Big Love yet. So far, anyway! Nikki is amazing. I agree about Margene to an extent, although sometimes I have to keep in mind that shes supposed to be in her early to mid 20s and she comes from a somewhat "normal" background in contrast to her co-stars, which makes her seem immature at times. Sad that I mean by "normal" in respect to coming from a broken home, but its true.

By the way, Nikki is amazing, but Adaleen is my hero! I have a hard time liking Margene, but that could be because I didn't like that actress in Walk the Line, so I can't like her here...

HOW CAN YOU WATCH BIG LOVE OMG

I had to stop watching it somewhere in the second season because it was too realistic and it made me sick and sad. The same reason I gave up on The Wire. This is pathetic commentary on my inability to deal with art that's reflective of reality, but there you have it: I'd rather watch vampires!
