I got a new fridge yesterday, and I was so happy! Until the delivery guys and I noticed that my husband hadn't taken into account the baseboards messing up our measurements. D'oh! I got to hop behind the fridge - after sweeping, mopping, and bleaching the area, yecch - and with a crow bar, pry off the molding. I was wearing a dress and felt pretty rad, I have to tell you.

And it still wasn't enough.

The corner of our counter top isn't 90 degrees square, so I'm going to have to pull it back out and pry off a strip of the crappy laminate that's preventing my fridge from being put in the right way.



(I had to pull off the teeny section in the front of the weird half-wall, too. One day I will gut that kitchen and make it more functional. One sweet day...)

Sorry the pics are crappy, they were taken on my cell phone and I couldn't be bothered to turn on the lights. LJ readers, I'm sorry. I apologize. New rug! So squishy and comfy and hi, there, dog hair collector, I love you. I'm searching for a coral/burnt umber colored shag rug to go over this for a little pop of color. That's such a douchey phrase, a little pop of color. So I'm evidently a douche. Heh.





Sally wanted you to see how cute she is. I love that fuzz face derg.





I bought fabric today to make some drapes for my dining room (cool-toned taupe, basket weave boucle, going for a mid-century, streamlined look with grommets at the top to hang them) and lol'd over the name of a neighboring fabric shop. The area that I was in is the fabric warehouse district, and this is definitely an Engrish translation. Hee. Side note, this same area is the red-light district at night. Fun! you can buy loads of sparkly spandex in a lot of these shops. And tear away Velcro.)




Where house fabrics? RIGHT HERE. I keep hearing a little 3 year old say the name out loud. I wish I could find their mom...

Hahahaha! Your fridge is too fat! I'm just bitter because you and I used to have the same fridge (possibly) before you went and bought a new one, damn you. I hope it all works out, though. Maybe put it on Weight Watchers or something. I covet your bottom freezer, BTW.

I had to buy a new one! My son ripped the handle off the old one, the compressor broke so it leaked water constantly, and it was a huge energy drain. Now it's all EnergyStar compliant and had LED lights inside! It's a pimp fridge.

Did you just say you wanted my bottom? Woman, I gave that to you years ago! *reads again* Ah. HEEEE.

Oh my gosh, I've been on a cleaning/organizing frenzy. In an hour when the chillens are home, that room will look entirely different...

I am so jealous of your new fridge, it looks so beeeeg! Ours never fails to piss me off with its puny capacity and inability to hold the two six packs of beer as well as all the food that is necessary to live our lives to the fullest.

It's all hot and muggy and windy here, too, and I've turned off the AC because it's finally getting down in the 70's overnight. Door's keep slamming like the house is haunted. Yes, I jump every time!

This fridge is only 1/2" wider than our old one, and it's shallower and SOMEHOW manages to have almost twice the interior. If you have a Frys in your area, they're having some sales. Some "it's totally worth it to get this now" sales.

WHERE IS THE HOUSE?! LOL.

The sky is getting overcast, I hope that means rain is coming. Sally hasn't grabbed her baby (the duck at the base of the fireplace) yet, so I think it must still be a way off...

I know your frustration over the fridge. Now that Jenn is settled in York, I thought I'd take over her bedroom as a quiet reading/craft room as it has the best sunlight in the house. I ordered a sofabed so when she and Mark are home they'll have somewhere to sleep and I get somewhere nice to sit when they're in York. Sensible idea, yes? The thing is her room is not big enough for most sofabeds, which open forwards, but I found one that opens sideways instead so it doesn't fill the room when it's a bed. BUT I knew it would only just fit up the stairs and I was right. The deliverymen abandoned it in the hall as it was against 'Health and Safety' for them to lift it upstairs. Luckily, hubby investigated and found out how to undo the metal armature inside so it could go up in two pieces. Thank goodness!

Jenn pronounced it a success but for a horrible moment I thought we'd have to go back to the rubbish tip and reclaim her old bed!

I'm so jealous of your fridge. I'm dying for a freezer-on-the-bottom fridge. But I have new enough appliances (for now) that we don't really need to replace them. When we do though... I also want a 5-burner stove with the special water-boiling burner because at my elevation it takes for-freaking-ever to boil water and cook pasta/potatoes. My dreams are boring and homemakery.

...I think you and I have the same floorplan in our kitchens. O_O Weird! Also, your new fridge, while very pretty, sounds slightly evil. It's certainly pandering to public carnality- it's quite sexy to picture a woman in a dress with a crowbar! ( ::innocent:: I have issues?)

Your living room is pretty! And so clean! I'm so jealous right now! There is apparently a law of some sort regarding what the amount of mess a house owned by one of my family members should be, so my one child makes the same amount that my mother's eight children made when I was growing up. ::sigh::

It took me an embarrassingly long time to notice Jar Jar hovering in the bottom of that picture.

Oooooohhhhhh, I want the Samsung front loader washer/dryer SO BAD. 1) they stack leaving me more room, yay! 2) tall dryer so I don't have to bend over and be reminded that I'm getting oooooooold.

(BTW, got my appliances at Frys - they're having some good sales.)

I do too, I'm sorry about last week! I had unexpected things with the kids, etc. I am digging up my garden this month, dividing up plants, so I'll have things to share with you soon!

We want to replace our fridge sometime soon (it still works, but it's waaay too small and we have growing boys) and I've been giving serious thought to the very French door design that you have there. You got a Samsung, I see in comments -- so tell me everything about it!

I had a pretty good-sized fridge before, but man, oh man, this thing is HUGE inside, and - bonus - it doesn't stick out (or won't) as far as my old one. Plus there's more efficient veggie storage - long and flat so you don't pile things on top of each other in a deep drawer. And the shelves change! If I have something tall, one of the shelves has a feature where you grab the front, push back, and it slips under the back half. Voila!

It has LED lights which will never go out and they have no heat. It has a sensor that beeps if you leave the door open/leave it open too long.

The different sites I've been to (including consumer reports) have Samsung as being the leader in less problems and better customer service than anyone else. i've heard lots of problems with LG, personally. And I like that my fridge has two interior door units, even with water/ice in the door. The LG has a big block that sticks out on the water/ice side, making that obsolete for any condiment/jar storage.

The freezer? Oh my lands, it's HUGE. Huge! And divided so you can easily access things and not have to dig around. Can you tell I love my fridge? Oh, and it's Energy Star compliant. I got a great price on it - Labor Day is a great time to buy appliances, too. Best Buy has some great deals, if there's one convenient to you to go check them out.

FANCY FRIDGE AHOY! Do you want to make like twice as much food to pack it to the gills and make it look like those circular refrigerator ads? Or is that just me (I used to look at them as a kid, all the fanciness packed in those dual-door fridges in ads!)?

YES I DO I DO!!! I want to have beautiful, coordinated tupperwares stacked just so, filled with yumminess. And exotic and fresh veggies and fruits in the drawers! (I totally love those ads. For the same reason!!)

That rug is surprisingly soft. (It's a woven jute.) Everyone makes excuses to walk on it barefoot. Squish squish squish! Sally is a totally sneaky camera hog. She'll photobomb anyone getting their picture taken, but she walks in with her head looking juuuuuust off in the distance as if she wasn't actually aware of the picture. HEE.

The last time I got a new fridge I ended up having to junk all the cabinets on that side of the room. I'm on the edge of doing that again, because I hate, hate, hate the top cabinets, and the drawer hardware is all dying. I'm making my own, this time, with actual plywood instead of MDF, which breaks down over time so the rollers come unhitched.

Whoa, that's a big undertaking! I plan on gutting my kitchen one day and re-doing all of the cabinets, their placement, etc., but I'm leaving that one to the experts. No more massive construction for me, I've had my fill. Good luck with that!

For me it was simply the best price, the largest interior, LED lights = never need replacing and no heat generation, best customer service/lack of reported problems. And it was on SALE, yay! (I've been watching these fridges for a good two years.)
