I know this is a double post, and I know I haven't replied to other comments, but come on. This is totally worth it. I was at the Asian Market stocking up on some staples, and hit the dried fungus aisle. There were some ready-to-go soups that looked interesting. *Understatement.

I put that one back on the shelf. (Second to last ingredient.)

ETA I am disappointed in you guys. Not ONE cream of sum yun gi joke??

I had to walk around a bit waiting for people to leave so I could quit laughing and get a picture.

I'm equally disgusted and intrigued.

What's odd is that two ingredients are in English and the rest in Latin. "Radix" means root and "semen" means "seed", as you probably knew all along really. *g*

Apparently euryale seed is also called the foxnut, which is almost as funny.

I wanna know who Euryales is. Who knows, maybe he's delicious? ;)

I know. The Truth may be Out There, but it's boring. You like Engrish?

It's possible I've had that. For Chinese New Year, a friend at work made me a traditional dish meant for health and good luck. Honestly, I recognized almost none of the ingredients.

I was first squicked at cortex. I remembered something about Creutzfeld-Jakob and kuru, but then I realised I'm a dilletante.

Just not in my soup.

Now I will be thinking of Mr. Smithers saying, "Sir, you know I think women and semen seamen don't mix!"

But semen is such a good source of protein and nutrients! ;)

....

Reminds me off that cookbook that dealt with what you could cook with semen... o.O I think you were the one that cracked my brain with that one.

I'm looking at my assorted instant soups and seeing none of these fun ingredients. MSG and Disodium 5' ribonucleotides just don't sound as intriguing as semen euryales. I feel gypped.

BTW, Unif's Instant Bean Vermicelli may have all the sodium you'll need in a day, but they're delicious, too. I love cellophane noodles.
