The light at the end of this tunnel is getting brighter... This is a love tunnel, so don't take it that I am not having fun. Er... Moving right along. (How many are singing The Muppet Movie? Just me?)

[livejournal.com profile] sdwolfpup had a TERRIFIC request, Hope. Loving these requests, y'all. Since "Hope" usually makes me think of a "higher plane," I tried to keep the base choices out of this. I want it to overall have an uplifting feel to it, since we are talking about hope. Oh, and did I say that my new kitty is named Hope? Am happy...

1. Of These, Hope, Peter Gabriel. Did you know he did the music for the movie The Last Temptation of Christ? Did you know he is brilliant and one of my most favorite composers? This has a traditional sound (early instrumentalization, Middle Eastern flair) but he takes modern sounds and layers them and it is just wonderful.
2. Don't Panic, Coldplay. It's more a feeling I get when I hear this. "We live in a beautiful world... Yeah we do! Yeah we do!" You put this on when you've dropped salsa on your boob, stubbed your toe, hair is messed up in the wind... It'll make you feel better, I promise.
3. M62 Song, Doves. I used this on the "Fred" playlist to represent her sitting in her cave hoping for a white knight. Worked, didn't it? "Waiting for a love..." Mournful and beautiful.
4. When I'm Sixty-Four, The Beatles. Again, it's a feeling when I hear this. Because we know she WILL be there sending him Valentine, Birthday greetings, bottles of wine for years and years.
5. Lift Thine Eyes to the Mountains, from Elijah, Felix Mendlessohn. Traditionally a Christmas Eve song, hope for the birth of the Savior. One of the more lovely Women's Chorus pieces out there.
6. Somewhere In Time, Rachmaninoff, Variation on a Theme, 17th. Come on, people! *sniff* Christopher Reeve, starving himself in that hotel room, believing he can get back to whatsername... (Who is a serious bitch, BTW. Very snooty, but she just looks it, right?) Oh. Back to the song. *sigh* He was so handsome in this movie... I hate pennies.
7. Hey Jude, Mutato Muzika Orchestra. Huh? Oh, I love playing with you. This is a TERRIFIC version of this song, it's from The Royal Tennebaums' soundtrack at the end when they are all re-evaluating their lives and realizing it will work out.
8. I Can, NaS. I love this song. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. There is so much hope and love and joy in this song. When he is telling the kids who black people were before they left Africa, how Greeks and Romans used to come to the land of Kush... They "were kings and queens, never porch monkeys..." I die a little inside for the shame of all mankind. But "you can be anything you want, even host a show like Oprah Winfrey!" Breaks my heart, and then lifts me back up.
9. Optimistic Thoughts, Blues Traveler. Hello! These guys will put a happy thought in your heart, no doubt about it. [livejournal.com profile] anelith, was it you that said they should be a national treasure? I agree.
10. There's More To Life Than This, Bjork. She can lift you up, dust you off, make you smile, and start grooving. Love her, swan and all.
11. Sanctus, From Requiem, Maurice Durufle. Now, I am not a "believer." Pretty entrenched in "you die, you feed plants." Don't need conversion posts, grew up in deep religion, know it all. However. The crescendo of voices in this song, after the swelling buildup... I kinda could believe. In anything put in front of me. I get goosebumps listening to this song.
12. Mass- IV Sanctus, Dale Warland Singers. If you even just KINDA like choral music, you must buy anything this group puts out. They are considered the tightest group in the world. Absolutely flawless voices. By the way, a "sanctus" is a hymn of praise, of HOPE and of sanctity. Can you tell I like them?
13. This Love, David Featherstone. Can you see me beaming? Can you see me bouncing? That's my dad!!! He wrote that song for my sisters and me for our wedding day. It's BEAUTIFUL, and I'm not just saying that. [livejournal.com profile] jamalov29? You've heard it. Chime in. It's taken from a passage in Ruth "your people shall be my people/ and your God my God." My youngest sister sang it for my oldest sister, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Voice like a bell, that one.
14. We Belong, Pat Benatar. Kinda moving beyond hope here, but when I was a teen, I listened to this song when I was crushing (on every boy) and BELIEVED they would love me. Um, you have to talk to boys, Stoney, for them to know you like them. Oh. Is THAT why it didn't work. :-)
15. Of These, Hope (Reprise), Peter Gabriel. Thought this would make a lovely bookend. It's different enough that you don't feel like the song is on repeat. And if you haven't seen the movie, it's absolutely a work of art. If you can hang on to the end and not get offended, you get a tremendous pay-off for the Christians on my flist. A far better movie for believers than the snuff film, "The Passion." Uhg. Seriously? Again: Peter Gabriel is a GENIUS.

Later today is [livejournal.com profile] spikefan's request (done!) and [livejournal.com profile] fer1213's request (done!) They'll be winging their way to you shortly... Then my last compilation, and my piece de resistance! SPANGEL for [livejournal.com profile] dovil!!!

We belong to the night, we belong to each other. (heavy electronic drum)

Many times I've tried to tell you, many times I've cried alone...
Always I'm surprised how well you cut my feelings to the bone...

We belong to the light, we belong to the THUNDER!!!

God, I am a sap, but ha ha! You are too!! Hooray. Oh, I can't wait for you to get this! I hope (ha ha... huh.) that you like it!

I merited the "Spiffy!" icon!! Hooray!

We belong to the sound of the words
We’ve both fallen under
Whatever we deny or embrace
For worse or for better
We belong, we belong
We belong together

Oops, sorry. Can't resist a sing-a-long!

Sue!! Dolly is performing tonight! She looks like she has zippers around her body and goes in for a tune-up every spring. YIKES.

I love Pat Benetar. Have you heard her jazz stuff? She frickin' rocks. I'm off to read the second part of Vinnie's tale!!

She looks like she has zippers around her body and goes in for a tune-up every spring. I know!!! What the hell has happened to my Guardian Movie Star? Too many nips and tucks? Possibly.

Did you like your Hulk icon? Did you show Em? What'd she think?

Allen and I laughed so loud we woke up the kids. It is getting it's own post later today, so as to not have thunder stolen.

I swear, I read that Dolly gets "tightened" up every year, and that's why she doesn't wear short skirts anymore. She has scars all along the inside of her legs, arms, and waist where they open her up, suck and tuck, and send her back out. Eww!! I miss my 9 to 5 Smokey Mountain Gal.

Sue, your Vinnie B-day fic is the best thing you have ever written. That is the BEST S/X, or Cannon, or torture fic on the 'net.

Caza was so proud, he showed me the icon as soon as I got home last night. I was all, "Yeah, uh-huh, adorable, now scoot so I can post the rest of my fic!!"

Sue, your Vinnie B-day fic is the best thing you have ever written.

Really?! See, I so need to lighten the hell up over SMCD. It's when I just go "fuck it" and write that I get the squees. Vin wanted "scratching" and "evil Spike" and I just shrugged and went with it, thinking, "Well, Vin loves me. If it sucks she'll still love me." I heart you more than there are emoticons to express.

Yeah, it was me that said that after hearing In the Groove which you put on my CD. The way that man can play a harmonica is not to be believed. In Japan certain people are designated Living Treasures (I think that's the right appelation) -- usually artists or writers or something like that. Why not here?

By the way, I tried the link to your dad's name and it didn't work!

Also, wanted to say I saw Last Temptation many years ago and I agree with you on that movie. I will never go see The Passion unless someone holds a gun to my head, I have no desire to see the horrible scenes which I've heard you are forced to watch, but Last Temptation was amazing.

My best memory of that was the scene on the shore of the lake, where you get this incredible sensation of the presence of God as a huge invisible pressure on Jesus, urging him to follow the will of God. I think the direction of the camera and the music worked together to create this powerful feeling of the unseen presence.

The whole movie is fantastic, and if you are a beliver, I think it really hits home the whole POINT of Jesus being a man, and using his Free Will to complete his mission as the son of God. I think it is Scorcese's greatest film, and it's a shame that the religious fanatics didn't sit through the whole thing to see the POINT.

(Scholars agree that Jesus was married, by the way, which led to the whole "DaVinci Code" mentality.) I could go on and on about religion. Fascinating stuff.

But I think the whole problem with the "believers" is that they didn't like the idea of Jesus being a man with free will -- allowed to choose whether to die on that cross. Also the idea of him being married? Well, you know what they thought about that. So even if they did manage to sit through the whole film they wouldn't have liked it.

Now you've made me want to see the movie again.

hi

I have the same problem with cameras, lol, except its that my eyes can never seem to be looking completely at the camera, ones always seeming to be looking elswhere, lol. It's pretty messed up considering my eyes are perfectly aligned otherwise. Ok, ive rambled enough on your poor journal. Bye
