Oh my god. It's not a person or an animal, IT IS FAR WORSE. They've ripped out my front flower bed - unbeknownst to me - to access the main water valve. IF I HAD KNOWN, I WOULD HAVE SAVED THEM. *cry*

I know it's lame, but I am SHAKING. Like, a huge Texas sundrop, several zebra mallows, all of my meadow sages, a MEMORIAL ROSE you know, to memorialize someone, my tiger lily bulbs, and that's all I can tell by peeking out the window. I can't bear to go out there and look. (It would have been nice to know about them digging there ahead of time so I could have dug up the plants myself and saved them. AUGH. I'll be letting my pool man know I'm frustrated by this. I'm sure other people don't care, so he didn't think to tell me but MY PLANTS ARE MY FRIENDS. *cry again* I know I'm a dork, I KNOW.)

Still. D: First person to make fun of me for crying gets a brown grasshopper in their nose.

Stoney!

I think other people WOULD care. I am SO SORRY. That's so awful. You poor darling. They should have TOLD YOU what they'd be doing, anyway. I'm so sorry.

Well they've destroyed a lot of hard work, and those plants were important to you. I think they should reimburse you for the damage they did, and couldn't be bothered to warn you about!

That just sucks so much. *hugs*

I'm sure other people don't care, so he didn't think to tell me but MY PLANTS ARE MY FRIENDS. NO. Just, NO.

That is your property and anyone who looked at your front yard would know that it's more than a few stupid ass store-bought pansies to fill up space. And even if it WAS just pansies? They should confirm with their client before they start digging things up. That's how business is done. It's not about what they thought was important, they just wanted to get the job done and neglected to alert their client of the changes. THAT IS BAD BUSINESS.

I would be so furious, and I don't blame you at all for crying. That is hard work and a joy of yours that they ruined. I'm sorry.

They need to know that they seriously erred here.

Absolutely give them hell. They should warn you about that kind of destruction. No question.

I would be livid, and I am not even in any way a gardener.

You may actually be able to save some of them, depending on how they tore out the bed. Our guys here would have just dug them up relatively whole and not chopped them up or anything. The roots may be intact for some of them. Go take some deep breaths and go into triage mode.

I'm surprised they did this without asking/informing you first. Whether you paid a landscaper to do this or you did it yourself - it's still your dime, your time. They absolutely should have discussed this with you before digging them up.

And I would cry if I were you. I've seen the photos you've posted of your gardens, they're works of art.

Dude if anyone ripped out part of my garden WITHOUT CHECKING WITH ME FIRST I'd go medieval on their ass.

*hugs*

I am so sorry that in their blitz to finish the pool they neglected the good business practice of making sure you were OK with them seriously fucking with your landscape.

The minimum I'd expect them to offer is financial compensation to cover the loss of the plants and an offer of labour (or equal cost) to cover redigging and prepping the bed they just ruined.

Frustrated? Frustrated my ass! It's time to go mom-postal! (That's like regular postal but with that extra soupçon of bat-shit crazy that only an angry mother can achieve.) Why did they have to destroy the entire flower bed? Why would they not warn you before wrecking your landscaping?

God, I am so angry and this isn't even my yard! Unprofessional ass-monkeys!

Oh no!!! I'm in agreement with everyone else - they should have checked with you first! I hope you can salvage at least some of your hard work and beautiful plants. (esp. the memorial rose - that makes me so sad.) From all the pics of your garden that you post, there could be no mistaking that it is something that a lot of time and money and attention has been DEVOTED to it, and it shouldn't have just carelessly been ripped up.

If you've seen my sister's pictures of her garden, then you KNOW that this was an absolute travesty. There's no way they couldn't have thought to ask her about it. Who does that?!

And this is not the first time she's had trouble with people jackin' up her yard while doing something completely non-landscape-related. People can be very, very thoughtless, especially when they're on a timed schedule to get things done.

I still tear up when I remember the dogwood that used to grow outside my bedroom window. Right after we moved in, the neighbors came by with their chainsaw and offered to help my then-husband cut down some of those pesky trees that were littering up our property. Which, WTF? I knew nothing about this, of course, until I heard a chainsaw, looked out the window and saw them at the tree. I ran outside in time to see it fall. I think the sight of me lying on top of the tree weeping was what made those particular neighbors a bit leery of me.

Oh, yes, one more moment of shared pain...my then-husband didn't really like gardening. So, color me surprised when he came in one hot afternoon to tell me he'd been weeding. I went outside to take a look and found...my entire shade garden ripped out by the roots and left in a pile in the broiling sun.

So, no, I won't laugh at you. I'm surprised you didn't go after them with your own chainsaw.

If anyone on your friends list EVER made fun of you for crying for this - just know know, please, that the rest of us would HUNT THEM DOWN. And do something REALLY horrible to them. Like make them listen to ALL of Dubya's state of the union speeches, or read listen to Kenny G - non-stop for 36 hours, or surround them with Thomas Kincaid paintings in a locked room for 36 hours. Or maybe just a 200 hour marathon of Teletubbys. In French.

Oh for fuck's sake! Bloody MORONS. In my last house we had renovations done, and I'd just planted a lovely to-be-hedge-edge of lavender, and the primulas had gotten to that gorgeous late spring prettiness, and pansies were just filling out .... and the bloody plasterers trampled it so badly that there was NO SIGN any plant had ever been there!
