Pecans, dipped in toffee, dipped in chocolate. A little shop in my town sells these. I bought a big ol' bag of them and I just hid the bag from myself because it is CRACK COCAINE. I am going to try and duplicate this awesomeness on my own, because it gets pricey supporting my little drug habit. (They're dusted with powdered sugar, just enough to keep them from sticking to each other.)

Holy crow, my new favorite thing.

No deck STILL, but I'm not complaining (well, I am in my house, but not to y'all) because it is a whopping SEVENTY EIGHT DEGREES because of a lovely "cold front" that blew in, bringing some more lovely rain. But this time it didn't spike to 104 right after, making the rain almost obsolete. It's GLORIOUS outside. I spread 200 pounds of compost in the garden, hoping to retain some of this moisture. The hydrangeas are bouncing back, for those keeping track. ;)

I can hear that wonderful close clap of crow cackling in the cold air. (heh.) You know how you can tell the seasons are turning because of that sound? How the cold makes the sound so sharp and close? I know it won't last, tomorrow it'll be back in the 90s, but for today I have dreams of rainy cold autumn nights, a roiling hot tub, then a fuzzy blanket, book, glass of wine, and some kitties. Bliss.

Okay, off to buy tomatoes to can (blasphemy!) because of the stupid tomato hornworm damage to my plants.

Ooh, I had almonds like that from Trader Joe's (I think) and they were SO GOOD. I wish I had some more right now.

Mmm, almonds would be good, too! I'm a total double pecan girl, all the way. ;)

Yeah, it's redonk. Next time you're here, I need to take you to our little town square. There are some little hole in the wall eateries with bands and booze and older, single gentlemen, I've been told.

I just moved to Lubbock last week for school, and it's been mid 90s or so during the day since I got here. And then yesterday, I don't think it got above about 75 degrees. The wind was blowing and it was sprinkling a little bit. It was very very nice yesterday! :)

Be ready for ice and wind come winter - it's the one place in Texas (there and Amarillo) that always get snow.

Oh my GOD, I am totally going to break into your house to steal those pecans from you! Now I understand why drug addicts turn to crime.

They are CRAZY. I might have to ask my husband to hide them from me. Except for how he's a toffee fiend, and would keep them to himself. ;)

Crazy delicious, these things.

I just hit a Roma tomato sale, so the canning will happen. But yeah. *Sniff*

Well, I didn't pick it up all at once! Only in 40 pound increments.

It's a lovely 63 degrees here in New Hampshire (but according to AccuWeather it "feels like 56"). I love the changing of the seasons!

Oooh, that's too cold for me for August! I do love warm weather, but 3 straight weeks of triple digits is a bit much. (We once had a 61 day streak of that, and it was horrifying. Then I would have loved your cool summer weather, for sure!)

It's nice to get a taste of what's to come, I do agree.

Mmm... those sound delicious. You might try looking up recipes for "Turtles," which I think they still sell in Canada, though I haven't seen them in stores for some time. They've got pecans, caramel, and chocolate. :)

Oh, I loooooove turtles. Sometimes they're called Millionaires here, as well, but I think that's a particular brand's name.

There's something about the crunchy toffee that is making me insane with want.

We FINALLY got RAIN here! It was a bad storm that blew in yesterday, bringing the blazing 103 degrees all the way down to the 70's. I LIKE IT YES!

I'm gonna pick your brains for a moment, if I may. How the hell do you keep your tomatoes from dieing of pests?? We have tried EVERYTHING!

Well, if you see what I said about my tomato plants, they were skeletenized by tomato hornworms. Loads of pesticides is the answer. Or visit a farmer's market like I did today. :)

I AM ACTUALLY CHILLY ENOUGH THAT I MIGHT HAVE TO PUT ON PANTS

PANTS. IN TEXAS. IN AUGUST.

(note: due to my chigger-bite-scarred legs, when I go out where people can see me, I wear pants. But in Texas summer, those pants are like...the lightest damned fabric I can find. I have 3 pairs of cargo pants made from fabric something like 1500 thread count sheets.)

If it makes you feel any better, we'll probably buy some tomatoes for canning too - since we didn't plant that many romas, and it's hard to imagine canning all these wacky heirloom ones (instead of just nom nom nomming them).
