I have a new Glee recap for you all, and it's "Furt" - the Hudson-Hummel wedding of awesomeness. Because it's a celebration, I have a champagne cocktail: Old New Borrowed & Blue. Oh! And new shows we're adding: Vampire Diaries, Boardwalk Empire, X Factor, and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. October has The Walking Dead joining the line up, and then SouthLAnd returns in January. We will keep you entertained, folks! OR DIE TRYING. (I have a death clause in the writer's contracts.)

The end of the month is at midnight tonight, and we currently stand at 106,750 views for the month, as of 3pm CST. I'M BLOWN AWAY. That's mostly from LJ and word of mouth, not too shabby! I'm adding Amazon to our page, so you can download music from Glee, or episodes from the shows we recap on the spot. We'll get a percentage of any costs and that will allow me to pay those fabulous writers. Don't you want to support that? :) (And merchandise is coming in a week!)

Because I've spent all of my extra time on the site and building it, I've fallen woefully behind on correspondence. Guys, I'm sorry, you're going to have to give me a Mulligan on this week, with the kids back in school, etc., I'm just in over my head. I'm sorry. :(

Random crap about the weather: we are just a handful of days off here in Texas from having the hottest record in recorded history. IN TEXAS. Compute that, if you can. We're currently at 65 days of 100F+ in the season, with the record at 69 days. That was the WORST summer, I can remember that, and how miserable we were - and my sister was a baby, poor thing. And our A/C was out for two weeks. <-- cruel and unusual, omg.

We have a "cold front" moving in this weekend, knocking us down to the upper 90s. Get the sweaters. Lol.

Tomorrow morning is the start of hunt season, so the Mr. is heading out tonight to be ready at the crack of dawn. For anyone about to jump down my throat: we will only eat meat he brings home. It's far less cruel than the meat in a market, let me tell you. Also, feral hogs are HORRIBLE. Where my husband has land, a nearby farmer has lost three Labradors to feral hogs. Yes, hogs eat FULL GROWN DOGS. And calves. And sheep. And anything else they can nab. They do about $46 million in damages in the state. So it's a good thing to thin them out. They are vicious suckers. We have a saying here: "when a feral hog has six piglets, only eight are expected to survive." They reproduce like rabbits, in other words.

And? They taste delicious. Far more healthful than the pork you get at the store, all pumped up with hormones. Blech. There will be ribs and chops this Labor Day weekend, HUZZAH!@

Plus feral pigs are VERY destructive. PLUS they were never meant to be thee in the first place. I say go get 'em (and if I was closer I would be trying to blag ribs off you - HA!)

They really are. I mentioned that they do about 46 million dollars in damage on average a year. Plus, they're tasty. ;D

The way Burt and Carole come down the aisle makes me grin like a lunatic every time. :) if I get remarried (which would require me not to be married first, whatever) I want that much joy in my wedding.

I had to stop and wipe away tears I WILL NOT PRETEND I WASN'T CHOKED UP.

As someone that was married before a JP (he had a lavish wedding his first go 'round, so we were meh about spending all the money) I look at these and get a little wishful myself. HEY BABY, I THINK I WANNA MARRY YOU.

Weird question - do you smoke your own bacon? I bet it's delicious if you do. Do you have to take it to someone to have it dressed? My cousin bowhunts but he doesn't dress his own stuff. My bro had to buy a whole new freezer the year my cousin lived with him. We dined on some very tasty venison that year.
You have to come up here where it's nice and cool. Plan on that next summer if the heat gets to you again. The mountains are so very awesome in the summer. And cool. And the mosquitos go away if you ask the nicely. Unlike down where you are where they form gangs and kidnap small animals! And we have no feral pigs up here so sallyderg AND all black labs are safe.

We've cured it, but we sugar cured it, didn't smoke it. (We had too much in the smoker the last time, I think he got something like three pigs over 200 pounds each? I didn't buy any meat for almost 10 months, it was fantastic.) The Mr. dresses it himself, but we do have a sausage maker that we love. It's an old family friend of mine, they moved here ahead of the Berlin Wall going up, his family was sausage makers for 400 years. So the brats? UNBELIEVABLE.

Sally Derg won't go on hunts, she's too chicken. :D But we fortunately have no mosquitos either - I'm in the Blackland Prairie. no water for them. YAY. (But yes, the CO mountains are FABULOUS.)

And Sally Derg is smart. You did not exclude sweet german shepherds from the pigs' victims......

Re Feral hogs. I HATE THOSE EVIL BASTARDS. I'm not really fond of "domesticated" pigs either. They are just waiting for you to slip up. WAITING.

I'm from MI, half the school population would be missing the first week of deer season. Hunting is far more humane than the factory farms. yeeks.

Do you make sausage? mmm sausaaaagee.

HURRRAY on your numbers! That is wonderful. I love the pictures you add because I haven't seen the shows, so it's nice to have a bit of a visual.

NEVER TRUST A PIG FARMER. Or pigs.

Yep, I am right there with you re: hunting vs. factories. (There are asshole hunters out there, true, but there are far less of them than there are factory farmers.)

We do! We leave things like summer sausage and brats to a guy here - he has 400+ year old recipes, we can't improve on that!

Oh, that's so nice to hear! THANKS!

Congratulations on the awesome numbers your site is generating. I am so behind in regular TViewing, I can't keep up with the recaps. Boo, me!

We have blown the hottest summer record out of the water. 75 days over 100°, 23 days at 105+°!!! It is like walking in an oven. I can't believe that we're looking forward to that "cold snap" bringing us down to 98 or 99.

Yay for more yummy feral hog! Hmm, it's surprising how not delicious that animal sounds.

If it weren't for this site, I would be behind, as well. You are a great supporter, I'm grateful for the times you've been able to come a'clickin.

I'm not surprised y'all did - if it weren't for a stray front that drifted across the Red River, we would have been there a few days ago. It's so awful outside. There are dead trees all over the place, and animals are just struggling out in the wild.

HAHAHA. Hmm, free range, fully organic hog, grazing on nuts, acorns livestock and forest roots! :D

I say to Mr. S "go for it!" Where I am, hunting means eating the bambi-types. I much prefer the hog meat. Plus, I have a whole philosophy about how our supermarket meat in packages has the average person not respecting that the thing they are eating was once an animal and thus it's no wonder so many people become so appalled they turn to vegetarianism. Hunters certainly respect and appreciate that the thing they kill was once a living thing and treat the process of turning it into food accordingly.

Anyway.

We've been having the coldest, wettest summer I can ever remember (possibly the worst since record-keeping began), so thus far we've gotten has high as 90 about twice. We've used the air conditioner in our home about 2 or 3 days all summer. Pfft! It has sucked in its own way. I think I prefer it to the heat you've had, but still, it would have been nice to have experienced a little heat this year to know for sure.

And to end my mega-comment: congratulations on the website success! I've been ferrying people there via my Facebook page and have heard nothing but happy replies thereafter,

Bambi season isn't for a while yet, pig is all year round, and tomorrow is dove. Mmmmmm. I'm right there with you on your personal philosophy re: grocery meat.

OMG, things are dying left and right because of the heat. Turn your oven to 400, open it, and stick your face in. That's what it feels like, but not as pleasant. Ha.

Oh, THANK YOU!!! I see loads of people coming from Facebook (we have a page there, Hey, Don't Judge Me) and it's nice to know they're being driven! I really appreciate that. <3

I want to come over and make Cumberland sauce for some beautiful tenderloin of feral hog. Or maybe marchand du vin sauce. It'd work on chops, too.

With garlic mashed potatoes. And roasted Brussels sprouts. And maybe glazed carrots.

I JUST ATE DINNER HOW CAN I BE HUNGRY.

People who bitch about how 'mean' and 'cruel' and 'inhumane' it is to hunt feral hogs have no concept of how destructive they are.

But then, these are also the people who would rather have deer starve then be humanely thinned.

I've never had such meat - it sounds *very* tasty. I love a nice bit of crispy pork - someday, i'll have wild boar! Heh.

(I say that because I know how sensitive she is. *g*)

YES, this x a million. Oh, Mr. Stoney has been seeing some horrid things out on our property, mostly as a result of this record breaking drought. Fawns are drowning in a few feet of water because they have to go so deeply down into the drying up lakes that they're getting stuck and falling into where they can't get out. it's awful. It's so much better (and kinder, imo) to put them out of their misery and let them go to some use than to let them wander around for weeks miserable without food or water. Hunters do a lot of good, I know that's hard for a lot of my non-hunting friends to understand.

Oh my GOD, if you can get wild pork, you will never go back. I've only bought pig one time since my husband started hunting, and I never will again. It has actual FLAVOR. And no fat! Ohhhhh, it's great.

OH, jayzus, that's horrifying. Poor little things. I have always been okay with responsible hunting. Hunting for fur - no. But eating what you hunt, and being responsible about it? Not a problem. I think it's what you said, basically - people are so disconnected from the food they eat, they think hunting is horrible but feed-lot cows are just dandy.

Hrmmmm...now, i *like* a bit of fat on my meat. IT's very tasty. I don't go nuts, but...ultra-lean always tastes a bit dry to me. Of course, i like my meat rare, rare, rare, too.

Congratulations on the site's success! Can't say I'm surprised because it's frackin' awesome!! It's made me ridiculously unproductive at work.

Mmmmmm...wild hog/boar meat. I've only had it a dozen times in my life but prefer it to the grocery store stuff. The taste is unbelievable, no hormones, no chemicals, no feed-lot cruelty, etc. Responsible hunting for food is much better for the planet and for those of us that eat meat. I think I need to make friends with some hunters!

Thank you!! Your work's loss if. definitely my gain. :D

Yeah you do! There are some people that hunt just to give the meat away, either to shelters or the like. See if you can find out about that!
