Woke up this morning to the smell of forest fire. Guys, they're awful and they're 4 hours away from me. My bro and sis in law have had suitcases packed, ready to flee if they move north. Here's a link where you can see the flames in SPACE. Space flames, I call it - that's my new band name. Ugh. There are so many people offering space to livestock, it's helping me believe in humanity some. (A teen arson started the big one in Bastrop. HAAAAATE.) Here's a video showing how fast they spread. This is the WORST summer in Texas, guys. Months and months of this. RAIN RAIN, PLEASE COME HERE, RAIN.

It's getting to be more and more Klaine in the Glee recaps, for those so inclined. (I also fawn all over Noah Puckerman, because I have eyes. Unf, he's delicious.) Today is "Silly Love Songs," with the infamous Gap Attack. Tomorrow is a big day, you'll not only have more Glee (WAIT, DON'T GO!) but there will be Top Chef: Just Desserts and Project Runway.

It is SO NICE outside, if you don't mind the campfire smell, so I'm going to take my Kindle and a beverage and recline on an outdoor chaise and be so grateful that I'm not bursting into flames.

The smoke is thick here, too. The Bastrop fire is about twenty miles southeast of Austin and after three days it's only 30% contained. I had no idea it was started by an arsonist. So much hate on right now. Hundreds of people have lost everything.

I can just imagine how bad it is there! The Possum Kingdom fire is responsible for our smoke, but that one is nowhere near as bad as the one in Bastrop.

Can you believe that? I saw that headline this morning and had to walk away, I was so mad.

I'm about 60-70 miles from the closest one up north, but we have family and friends that are right in the line of fire, so to speak. It's so dry here that the flames just walk across the ground, it's frightening.

I've been reading about the fires, but I didn't know it was a teen arsonist that was responsible. That makes me shake with rage when I think about the damage they have caused. Just awful.

I hope you get a reprieve soon, not just from the fires, obviously, but from the drought as well.

One of my good friends is from Bastrop. Her whole family still lives down there on the same block. She found out Monday that everything they owned is gone.

But she said it was a downed power line. Or was that only speculation and the real cause was an asshole with matches?

According to the latest news there are FOUR teens being hunted for starting the Bastrop fire. 2 girls and 2 boys. SO AWFUL.

It sounds shitty to be like, "Thank goodness for hurricane season," but yeah. Florida & Georgia had a shitty wildfire summer, relatively speaking (being coastal states and all), and I was congested most of the summer because of it. Smokiness and particulate matter from all the lovely Southern plants my Northern sinuses recoil in terror from. Fun!

Ugh, wildfires can be so, so shitty, though, in all seriousness. I heard you guys' state fire departments' budgets were cut by 75% in the past year, too. IT'S TEXAS, WHAT WERE THOSE LEGISLATORS THINKING?!

I'm in Austin and there's a dim haze all over the city. Lots of people are opening their homes to friends and the local businesses are taking donations of household supplies for the people who've been evacuated.

Also, I just wanted to let you know that the Leander fire is the one suspected to have been started by the four teens (they were seen fleeing the area the fire started in at the time the fire started, so of course they're suspects at the moment). There aren't any other definitive causes I've heard about for the other fires, including the one in Bastrop. They've got a big airplane waiting for someone to pilot it to dump water and fire retardant on the fires.
