Hoarders

Last night was a tough one, but not for reasons you'd think. One person seemed like a hopeless case, honestly. That always leaves me frustrated. Here's the recap, with a special emphasis on how important a support group is (and would it matter in the case of someone not giving a damn?)

ION, had a very stressful night, and let me just state for the record that there is NO WAY IN HELL I would ever go back to high school. And man, it sucked when I was there, but now with how fast people shit on each other via social media? How easy it is to be awful because of the (very very thin) veil of anonymity of being online? (And honestly, I think that bleeds into their every day - like, they forget that they can't just say anything they want in RL vs. online life.) Ugh.

Teens? You have my sympathy. My current solution is to get mine off the grid, so to speak. No more FB, none of that stuff. It's too easy to be swept up in things, and with my son's social disorder, it just spells trouble.

Speaking of, I'm a little heart-heavy today, so I'm going to be scarce. Be good to people, okay? (Or don't make a point of being ugly, for crying out loud. Add something nice to the world today.)

Here's my contribution,

French hollyhocks (also called Zebra mallow) each blossom is about the size of a quarter. :) I should have roses soon, which is INSANE. It's going to be 80 on Thursday.

O_O

It feels like it's Spring already. The Mountain Laurels are all blooming and the tulips and daffodils are up all over the neighborhood. If it weren't so muggy and there wasn't a tree crew out front with their chipper going (for the past two hours), I'd be outside with a book.

High school really is awful, isn't it? I've repressed most of the time spent there.

I just want to let you know that because of this post I have let that family I kidnapped out of my basement. For you.

Gorgeous plant, and many hugs for you and the rest of the family. Huuuuuugs.

*hughughughughug*

I would hate to be a teenager these days, with facebook and every little indiscretion immortalised on the internet. I wonder what sort of curly psychological adjustments are going to be necessary for people to overcome their teenagehoods when they're later facing employment, families, public life.

I must admit, I'm worried we're going to be living in a "Whatever" world. But hey, whatever, right? Hee.

*pats your heart and gives it a chocolate*

Oh, man, I wish I could grow French hollyhocks in Austin! I have roses already, though, so that's a small consolation. ;)

And man, I hadn't even thought about how much worse high school would have been if we'd had social media then. Ugh.

I'm gonna have to find seeds somewhere and try. I've never seen starts for sale at any of the local nurseries.

You can buy them online, too! Don't look at the big box shops - the little organic joints all over Austin should have them. I bet if you asked someone that works there, they'd find them for you. (Gardeners are dorky like that. :D)

Oh, they're so pretty!

My current solution is to get mine off the grid, so to speak. No more FB, none of that stuff.

Absolutely. I mean, I remember being a teen (15/16 or so) and getting into anime fandom, finding a place where online felt safe and still mostly anonymous, where creativity was encouraged and there was a lot of positive support. My love affair with the internet stems from fandom. but Facebook, where you know the minutae of everyone else's life, where people seem to spend half their time taking photos so they can post about it on FB and then the mean insults that seem to happen to teens on there? That's not a good thing. I avoid it, and I'm an adult.

Thanks for the flowers. We won't have any here for a while yet.
