Some bullet points for your Monday.

  1. I had every intention of adding the show "Breaking Amish" to the HDJM lineup. And the longer I watched the first episode last night, the angrier I got. Because WOW are there similarities with my former religion. The control, the closed off from the world community, the "if you leave us, you're going to be cut off from everyone, including God" mentality. So. Can't do it - it would just be me throwing their religion back in their face and grumbling a lot.

  2. First rule of HDJM: it has to come from a place of love. So. *hands*

  3. BUT! Hoarders returns tonight! They were able to get clearance to start as scheduled instead of waiting until October. And let me remind you: the organizers are living WITH THE HOARDERS this season. IN THEIR HOUSE. O_O Matt and Corey have gone on and on about how amazing they found it (even if they were totally grossed out at times.) Recap in the A.M.

  4. It was glorious here in North Texas this weekend, and I spent the vast majority of it outside in my garden, digging up spring bulbs to be divided.

  5. And now I want to re-do the two front flower beds (the one against the house and the one in front of my walk.) I think I heard my husband whimper. WHATEVER, DUDE. It's not like he has to do anything, pfft. ;D

  6. I am DETERMINED to be productive today and write.

  7. I am losing my taste for coffee. <-- SADDEST THING EVER

  8. (Fortunately I have some fabulous white tea with cranberry and orange and rose that is helping me cope with this strange new world of coffee tasting like cigarette butts.)

THERE IS A DISTINCT HINT OF FALL IN THE AIR. And I like it.

IT'S FALL HERE, TOO! WE HAVE ALL OF THE WINDOWS OPEN! IT IS GLORIOUS! I HAD BREAKFAST OUT ON THE PORCH!

I, er, may be a little excited about this, okay? :D

I think it's wise that you aren't recapping the Amish show if it touches on your own personal Mormon issues. Good choice. <3

Yay flowers! Yay writing! YAY, YOU!

I AM EXCITED, TOO!! I had my coffee (blech - nooooooo!) outside and watched red tail hawks circle and dragonflies buzzing the flowers. AND HAD TO WEAR A SWEATER. (Because it was 62! FREEZING! Hee.)

Yay you, too!! Oh, will we be emailing today!

I'M WEARING MY NEW LEATHER BOOTS TODAY. BECAUSE IT'S FAAAAAAAALL.

Funny you should mention the Amish show- I was just watching Witness last night. And the reason I was watching it is because my university town is in an extremely Mennonite area- they were the original settlers- and when the foreign exchange students arrived last week, one wanted to go and take pictures of the Old Older Mennonites who still wear old-fashioned clothes, because he'd seen Witness and thought it sounded cool. (I told him not to.) There's actually a visitor's centre in their part of town, St. Jacob's, with a whole mini-museum and documentary aout the Old Order- for the most part they seem pretty chill, but there was this one part in the doc about how women have their place in the home that made me go EURGH.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTS! Oh, I need a lovely pair of boots for this season. <3

One of the girls in the show was shown doing all of the laundry (hand crank, GOOD LORD) and saying how she can't even imagine a man making her something to eat, or washing their own clothes. But she felt that men and women were supposed to be equal and then her cousins barked their breakfast orders at her and I saw red and flew into a rage. LOL.

Waking up to mid sixties is a gift! Everyone was out in their gardens yesterday and there were loads of cats to pet on my walk this morning. Yay Fall!!

Aww, cats on your walk! That's lovely. I just sat on my front walk and pulled wild purslane from between my flagstone while bees hummed on the lavender. <3

I like when I actually get to ENJOY my garden!

I've thought for years that coffee smells better than it tastes.

One look at TWOP and a reviewer who no longer loves the show is proof enough it's got to come from love.

Fall! I love fall! I had the windows open until I began to sneeze uncontrollably and then have a sore throat. ::rolls eyes::

I have only thought that about coffee for days! :( It has been one of life's pleasures for so long... Maybe I need a new bean instead of Sumatra. *sad face*

Oh, I can't even go to TWoP any more. The whole point seems to be to shit on things over there, and I just don't want that experience.

Maybe your machine needs a good cleaning-out? Coffee's incredibly messy stuff and all that residue can throw the taste of the best coffee off...

Maybe switch up your varietal? Try a nice earthy Latin American for a week?

(Oh, yes, I'll take one. Enrique Iglesias, please.)

Great minds think alike! I cleaned it out last night wondering if that could be it. I think I need a Guatemalan Antigua instead of my usual Sumatra. =/

(And lol!)

Can I just say how much I appreciate that you/HDJ sticks so firmly to the "it has to come from a place of love" rule?

(Hi, I don't comment usually, not sure if I should now, but I really do appreciate that about your site.)

Lost my taste for coffee about two years ago. WHAT HAPPENED? I am assuming it's part of the taste buds dying as I get older. I like the way broccoli tastes now too.

Oooo, I'm looking forward to the Hoarders recaps! I can't watch the show -- triggers everywhere! -- but I can manage reading about it thanks to your compassionate approach. As long as I don't actually see the misery or hear the crying (or screaming), it's okay. ::laughs at self:: So, thanks!

SWM IT IS THE SADDEST THING EVER I JUST DON'T EVEN KNOW. I'm buying a whole new machine today and new beans, because IT HAS TO BE THAT. It can't be my mouth, it just CAN'T be.

Fresh beans should totally make the difference! It must be so!

Sometimes I have that 'this coffee does not taste like nirvana and unicorn hugs and joy, am I *broken*?!' and usually good beans fixes it. Unless I am sick and potentially dying.

Or I just need to murder these Sumatra beans. Guatemalan Antigua, here I come!

Coffee from the NW

Date: 2012-09-12 02:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] seacath.livejournal.com
As you may or may not know, the NW is kinda BIG on coffee. Studies have shown the water off the coast of Oregon has an unusually HIGH level of caffeine in it...due to coffee consumption (yes, NOAA paid for said research). As such, I feel inclined to suggest my abfab favorite coffee roaster, from whom you can order online.

http://www.sleepymonkcoffee.com/

What ever they're doing to the beans during roasting is magical. It's a tiny little roaster near the Oregon Coast (not affiliated with any organized religion that I know of). I would give these guys a try before giving up coffee, if I were you... foshizzle.

:D

Thanks for that!
