- It's been exactly 2 years and one week since I brought Hey, Don't Judge Me online. :)
- Y'all should know by now that my whole point in creating HDJM was to make a place that was negativity-free for fangirls to share their fannish love of things without feat of TWoP smack downs, mocking, etc. There aren't many places online that promise that, so that's my #1 goal with the site, and I've tried to be faithful to that, with Twilight being the (obvious) exception.
- Because of that, I have absolutely struggled for over a month, now, about recapping a particular show that has made me sad, angry, and incredibly miserable. Which is ironic, as the show is "Glee." Yeah, I know, y'all knew all along that blah blah. here's the thing: I don't want to bad mouth, even now. I don't want to hear other people bitch about it. I just don't want to be involved with the show now. I might change my mind and come back to it for recaps, but as of now: I am no longer recapping Glee on HDJM.
- Please stop PMing, emailing, tracking me down via twitter, tumblr and FB to ask when I'm going to get to that. I'm not. Life is short (and currently stressful) and I don't want to force myself to do something that makes me miserable just so someone can have a quick read over their coffee.
- I would also like to remind the general public that I (and my girls) write on HDJM for free. Actually, I pay for the privilege of writing on HDJM, because I pay all the hosting costs (and I pay for a private server/VPN now because of the DDoS attacks last summer, and those are a few hundred dollars a year), and used to pay my writers out of my own pocket when we didn't have donations. I've been incredibly grateful for the donations we've received over the past two years, but those dried up a while ago. Fair enough, and I'm not complaining that they did, please note. I say this to illustrate a point: it's rude to demand even more free stuff from people that are already doing all they can to make a place for you to enjoy.

flaming_muse at Lupa, Mario Batali's restaurant, where I had one of the best meals of my life. Truly. I had his oxtail ragu over fresh pasta, and it was transcendent. Problem: every recipe I've found online or in books isn't the recipe to that dish. Mario is a tricksy little hobbit. HOWEVER. I found a series of video interviews where he talks about that dish in particular, and have pieced the recipe together. For the past 2 days I've been making this fantastic ragu, and HOLY SHEEP BALLS. I wish I could Floo Network a bowl to each of you, because it's outstanding. - I'll post the recipe this afternoon if anyone wants to bookmark it
- Dorothy Breininger of Hoarders messaged me yesterday and I just want to hug her bones.

THE RAGU SOUNDS AMAZING; ragu is the world's best comfort food in my not so humble opinion ;) Would you be willing to share the recepie? I understand if not as you have put a lot of work into it.

Date: 2013-01-25 02:59 pm (UTC)I was in NYC back in 2010 with a friend and we ate at Mario Batali's restaurant "Del Posto." It was DIVINE. We had the tasting menu and one of the courses was this 100 layer lasagna (no really...100 layers of tissue thin pasta...amazing)and the dessert was made with eggplant. I had no idea eggplant could be made in dessert but it was delicious. The guy knows how to put together a menu, is basically what I'm saying. :)

There was a golden raisin and sardine salad that I would marry, if given the opportunity. He DEFINITELY knows how to put together a menu. And the wine steward paired my dinner with a fabulous bottle of wine, too. I can't wait to go back.

I went to one of Mario's restaurants years ago - Po in NYC. I had some sort of black linguini dish. It was amazing.

Date: 2013-01-25 07:31 pm (UTC)Oh, the ragu is TOTALLY time consuming, in that it takes forever to cook. But it's what I call 'laundry day' cooking, where you do a little to it, go about your chores/etc, come back and stir, yadda. (I just posted the recipe, if you're curious.)
If you have a butcher at your grocery store, they probably have the tails in the back, they just don't always put them out front. Asian grocers always have them, as well. Plus? CHEAP. (I just put this here for anyone scrolling by, not to be the boss of you.) Hee.
OH MY GOD THE BLACK LINGUINI. Black from squid ink, right?! AMAZING. Damn, I want to go on an eating vacation.
