Wine rec

After a loooooong (but incredibly productive) day, I am treating myself to a fine bottle of wine. Not a fine bottle, because it's Wednesday, but hey. This one is pretty terrific.

Very full bodied, almost spicy. No oakiness (you can always count on any rec of mine to NOT have a sweet, vanilla finish - which is what "oak" means) and so damn sippable, it should be fined. Or I could just let go and let Jesus. Because it's wonderful. It's a bit like Darioush, if you've ever had that? And considering that Darioush is $90 a bottle and this is about $35, not too shabby. It's a special release, so there aren't many bottles available. I bought one on a whim (I like the region) and will be going back to add a few bottles to my wine cellar (aka, the wine fridge. Cellar sounds nicer.) :D

I've had their Inkblot Cabernet Franc, as well, and quite liked it. I like this one better.

And if your ears were burning today, it may be because I shared the Coin Project story with my son's therapist/medical team. They all were amazed at the generous nature of online friends. I, of course, was not surprised. *beams* That was a real bright spot in a very dark time for my boy, and we all got a bit emotional at how lovely people can be to a complete stranger.

CHEERS! *clinks glass with you*

I love when you talk wine, Stoney! The one you're describing sounds fantastic.

Random thought: have you ever considered submitting a version of the Coin Project story for publication? Because of the awesome, and because you are an awesome storyteller!

It's very similar to that first wine we drank on Friday, the 2004 Silver Oak from Alexander Valley. NUM NUM!!

...you know, I was thinking about that today. It's such a great story about how kind people can be. *strokes chin* I have NO idea where I'd submit it, but I might just do that. <3

That was a delicious one! I'm totally going to hunt down both of those.

Yay, I think it would be a terrific essay or article! I can never think of places to submit off the top of my head, but if I can come up with any ideas of where you might pitch it later on, I'll definitely email you to suggest them.

And Bocelli Sangiovese was the other wine we had with our margherita sandwiches. <3

You are a peach, plum, AND a pear! *makes a fabulous tart out of you*

It's super tasty! There are a few of them by this vintner: Inkblot is really great, as well.

Your wine entries interest me because when we go on holiday (vacation in Texan)we nearly always go to wine-producing areas and do a tour of producers. This year we went to the Veneto region of Italy, so we bought wine in Alsace on the way south, Soave, Gambellara, Lake Garda region, Bardonesco in Piedmont, Beaumes de Venise and the Ventoux. We just about fitted ourselves into the car on the way back! I love Rhone red wines, so rich and intense; your Inkblot sounds a little like that.

I'm amazed people are amazed by the coin project - it's what people do for friends, isn't it? I love the fact that we can do it on an international scale for friends we have never met in person, but it's still pretty much the same as helping a neighbour's kid with tricky homework. And people nearly always pay it forward, too, which increases the general amount of good in the world. (Which always reminds me of Sam and Frodo.)

Your boy has had such a tough time - it still brings a tear to my eye to know that I helped with something that gave him real joy in his life.
