Hey, have you heard of Black Sails? Because Liz has, and she's going to be recapping it. HOORAY. Golden Age of Sail? Check. Lady pirates? Check. Lady pirates in love with other lady pirates? DOUBLE CHECK.

I had the weekend to myself for the most part, as the Mr. went to the deer lease with Emily and Sally Derg. Sally is very much a city dog and was terrified of the friendly cows out there, which makes me laugh. She likes little things like cats and Yorkies. And her "baby," a stuffed otter. Ha. (But I have a freezer full of meat, which means I won't have to buy any for some time, hooray!)

And I booked a flight for an upcoming (and very much needed) trip and I have been BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS with excitement over it.

Hello, guys! It's Monday and we got to sleep in yesterday! Or you were up extra early and are still angry about it, IDK your life.

I was up early because I'd forgotten the time change was even happening! Fortunately my computer reminded me almost immediately but I had already downed a cup of coffee so no take backs.

We have not even started watching this season of Walking Dead yet. Between bike pub crawls and friends with birthdays we haven't had an evening free. Soon, though, very soon...

Yay freezer full of meat and vacation!

A question from a lifelong city girl whose one and only hunting experience ended in tears: deer lease? Wuh?

My imagination says it must be a safe zone that the deer lease for themselves each hunting season. (They earn the money for said lease by acting as stand-in models for reindeer over the Christmas holidays. Sure, it means they have to humiliate themselves a little by donning reindeer antlers and red noses, but they consider it a noble sacrifice. Plus, it makes for fun family stories: "My hoof to God's ears, that was TOTALLY Uncle Bob in that Santa commercial! He said Santa was pretty grumpy, but his breath was nice thanks to all of the candy canes. Also, he met Aunt Lorraine on set. She was playing Blitzen and Bob always likes to say Aunt Lorraine "Blitzened his heart" that day and he was never the same since. Yep, true story.")

Deer lease: land you pay a yearly fee (lease) to have hunting rights. In our case, a friend owns several hundred acres of land and has parceled out sections in 20 acre increments. The Mr. pays a yearly fee to have that be his land to hunt on. The friend is responsible for all things relating to ownership, but no one else can hunt there. We have - essentially - a mobile home out there as a lodge for him to stay at, and for the kids to crash when they go camping with dad. We have access to it year round.
