Back from a quick and mostly unplanned trip to DC for the girls' Spring Break. The Mr. threw it all together and sprung it on us last minute. It was a really good time, but wow, did we pack in the days. Walked miles and miles all over the city, the museums, back at National Harbor where we stayed. I love that my teens still enjoy museums.

It was focused on the girls and filling their noggins with information/history and eating where the Mr. made reservations. Allow me to highly recommend Bond 45, if only for the lamb ragout with freshly made gnocchi, pillowy soft and flavorful. That sauce was the type to lick the bowl clean, let me tell you. Their lasagne was ridiculously good, as were the scallops. (Uh, skip the Red Velvet cake. Disappointing.)

The weather took a turn for the worse (as y'all on the east coast well know) and we had delay after delay trying to get out of DC, took a side trip to Alabama just to get home, and finally made it back late last night, where I kissed the animals and fell into bed. And I'm the genius who scheduled a mammogram this morning, almost forgot, got there two minutes late, and had the pleasure of a mammogram. (Ha. They suck. They're important, but they suck.)

Refilled the house with food, laundry sorted and started, and now I'm ready to fall asleep and nap for nine days. HOW ARE YOU?

Welcome back! I'm good. =) I got my baseline mammogram and OMG it HURT!!!! My mom always told me how much they squeeze you and how it hurts and you can't breathe because they tell you not to but its different experiencing it for myself! The tech was really nice, though.

Hooboy, it's an experience, isn't it? This wasn't my first, but that doesn't make it hurt less. >.

I live near the museums in SW DC. Sorry I didn't know you were here to show you where to get some good red velvet cake.

Oh, we had tons of great food everywhere we went, I just went out on a limb and got it at this Italian restaurant as a sort of after thought. They used shortening in their cream cheese frosting, AN OUTRAGE, I TELL YOU. ;D

That is definitely a crime against food. *sigh* Next time, try Busboys and Poets. No red velvet cake, but their desserts are wonderful -- and so are their cocktails.

Your random trip inspired me to take a random trip to DC, too, perhaps in June. (Yes, I'm single white Lauring you.)

Loved your pics, and yay for knowledge!

Ahahaha. Well, if you end up taking the Mr. with you, I approve of your actions. :D

Yay! You were in my old stomping grounds! I used to work on the Mall at the National Archives and later at an archives in the National Portrait Gallery and I miss prowling through (free) Smithsonian museums before the public is allowed in like anything. Also, I miss the Anglo 18th century, which doesn't exist on the west coast.

(We're going to the DC area to see my parents in a couple of weeks.)

I wished we could have stayed for several more days so I could have gone into the National Archives... I was cramming as much Fallout 3 into the trip as it was! :D

Oh, I hope you have a wonderful trip! There's nothing like a load of museums all in one spot, and for FREE, to boot!

I'm so glad that the weather didn't derail your fun times in the city, but it's a shame you had a rough trip back home. Washington DC has had an awful, awful winter! (Well, a lot of the US has.)

Holy cow I hate my annual mammogram. It is so very painful. I hope one day there will be a better way, but until then I grit my teeth...

MAMMOGRAMS. >:( I don't have to get them done but every three years, fortunately, and I wish they could just take an xray like the dentist does with my mouth. SO MUCH EASIER.
