I drug out my 10 blade reel mower Monday and got an upper body workout. (It weighs about 45 pounds, but I have a putting green! Not technically, but you get my meaning) I think I convinced my husband to put in more flower beds. Plants = less work than grass, by a LONG shot.

Oh, yeah, you know it. Thing is, we're on excessively drained coarse sand, according to the guys who do the septic tank permitting, so we have 1000 square feet of drainfield, none of which can have shrubs or anything useful on it, five trenches three feet wide and four feet apart and I am so not up to basic math this morning. Anyway, it amounts to about 50'X50' of mown lawn, with another 20X10 between the house and the greenhouse, and then there's the insanity which is the shade yard, about 30X50, with mown paths and flower beds and a big native plant bed.

Oh- and the iris garden, where I really need to get ground wood and mulch all the paths because they're a 100% bitch to mow.

Green. I'll be green in a bit. Must go wake up and check cows (six babies now, on this place, plus another 20 or so in the Angus herd).

I think Buffallo Grass is one of those things that needs more something or less something than this climate can provide- probably drier winter conditions, like pronghorn antelope, which mold here in the winter. My dad tried growing every possible pasture/lawn crop and a few which were pretty far out there, like Kochia, and Sudan Grass (which gets toxic after if freezes, oops).

We don't irrigate the lawn so it's only mowed spring and fall.

Julia, we've got the neighbors trained to not use lawn chemicals and feed clippings to the cattle

If I wanted to read the boys as written by Anne Rice, I'd just re-read "The Vampire Chronicles" and scratch out all the Lestat and Louis and replace it with Spike and Angel...and this pretty much covers most of my squicks (heavy handed S/M with no explanation, Master! It took me a while to understand...and I think I do. The "chicks with dicks" we are glaring at are Spike, Xander, Angel, Wesley, and so forth, written as a chick. And a circa 1960 chick, at that. Example:

"Chicks with dicks" isn't the def you are thinking of. It refers to folks who write boys in fic (say, XANDER) to be a woman who happens to have a penis. Meaning, they have forgotten that the person they are writing is a MALE. Like, forgetting about the balls and having them do something that would cause an actual man INCREDIBLE discomfort.

That's what I meant.

I generally am not into incest fic. That being said, I don't see Angel/Connor as incest. Huh? Lemme 'splain. "Connor" is a baby. Forever a baby. Stephen - was the child/is the young man now. (As in, S4 timeline) Holtz, for better or much, much worse is the "father" of Stephen.

Angel's family (Darla, Dru, Spike) is a family of fabrication, and I think Connor fits into that. It isn't incestuous when Darla and Angel (make a pairing, pick a pairing) come together, so it isn't the same for me.

Now. There is a sense of parenthood/ father-son/ you belong to me/ trust that is at risk in C/A, but not like you having a baby, or you and your brother.

Ultimately, it's a new kink and I'm all about the justification. (Kink as in Connor/Angel, not any other incest fics that may exist)

Man, you made me read incest fic and it was ...hurty.

I find I get more sqicks the more I read. I used to read everything, but now there's certain stuff I'll only read if it's by a particular author like (see above) or RPS.
Most of those Authors are Tesla! i think it's the affection she has for the characters, makes reading her...affirming, or something.
Not that I don't like a good dose of h/c and heroism every now and then.
(Not going to talk about mad silly Stoneyfic cos that would be smooching)

Happy St. Patrick's Day, Stoney! My Irish eyes are smiling at you. Now, enough wholesome revelry, onto the kinks (most of which I'm aware :

Hurt/comfort. That's the main one, the one that encompasses most of the others. I generally like the more physically vulnerable of the pair to be the hurtee (so Angel comforts/defends/rescues Wesley, Spike comforts/defends/rescues Xander, etc). This is a common paradigm, and one really prone to being badly and/or preposterously written, so the ones who do it well (TheBratQueen, Willshenilshe, the Reality Bends RPG, the Snakes and Ladders RPG, and many others) have my eternal gratitude. The bigger the hurt the better, as long as the relationship remains stable. I like the conflict/trauma to come from the outside.

The courtly love is also fun: Vampire Boy mooning over Human Boy from afar, devoted, wanting him, but feeling unworthy.

I also really like the vampire/human relationship because of the OMG!mortality!angst. Nothing's better than a nice long schmangsty fic where Human Boy gets hurt, gets cared for, and gets better, but Vampire Boy is still shaken to the bone by the reminder that his lover will die for real one day.

By that token, I really don't like turning fics. I like Vampire Boy to think about it, ask about it, maybe even beg to do it, but Human Boy must demur. Plus, I really can't see Xander or Wesley going for it.

I don't have any real squicks (other than extremely underage stuff, I guess) but some things that don't interest me are among the most popular with others: Crossdressing, bdsm, bloodplay, most Spangel (unless it's funny, in which case it's gold), hatesex, and, um graphic sex in general. Yeah, I kind of just skim over it unless it's really emotional or else reall, really good. I'm here for the hearts and flowers, dammit!

It depends on my mood (and the writer) Read a FANTASTIC and EXPLICIT fic last night that was just RAW. I think there are some writers who can give you all the details and sensation of experiencing what the charactes are without resorting to shoving a camera up someone's ass and counting off the hairs, you know?

I don't generally like the turning fics, either. It seems a cheat somehow.

Pedophilia- no explanations necessary. Creepy, psycho,stalker Wes is not sexy to me. If I see Angel/Wesley in a story I more than likely will not read it. Angel/non Spike(William)-this isn't really a squick. Angel with anyone other than Spike and his incarnations does nothing for me SEXUALLY. However, I will read the story if it is well written. I may even like that story, but it probably won't turn me on. Having said that, Bangel does nothing for me either, on the show or in fic. Giles/any Scooby-no, just no. Rape is not a turn on, especially if you have the victim and the rapist end up together acting schmoopy::gag::.

I adore Angelus (not Angel) with just about anyone. Keep in mind that a relationship with Angelus would more than likely will be f'ed up. I'll probably read Spike with anyone as well. I adore Spike in all his personas, all of them I say!!! If he is with Angel, Angelus, or Liam, I'll adore it even more. No matter how many times it is done I will forever love Angelus taking William's virginity ::sighs::. I know it has been done to death, but gah!! Also you do get that I wanna read more fics that feature Spike/Connor and Spike/Angel in them and not all three at the same time? In the the end Spike will have to make a choice, and Angel and Connor try to fight to keep him. I still see Connor as Angel's son. Technically, Spike is related to Angel as well, but it doesn't seem quite as incestuous. I guess it's a vampire vs. human thing. Although Connor isn't a normal human. Hmmm do I make sense?

Oddly enough, I don't mind incest, as long as it's between semi-consenting semi-adults. It's the pre-teen stuff that wigs me out, which is why I can't go within 10 miles of the HP fandom.

Stuff I like: Spike talking dirty (god, that VOICE!); Angel being goofy and shy; one of them seducing the other, wearing down their resistance; and loads and loads of sexual tension. I wish I were better at sexual tension. It makes it so much more fun when they... you know... untense.
