If that makes no sense to you, no worries. I've been emo and wanky and whiney and weepy all week and completely unfit for public consumption. It's rainy and cold here today (a nice welcome change from windy and dry) so the fam has decided to watch all 4 Harry Potter movies and curl up in blankets.

And now Mr. S can see for himself what I've been talking about with Christopher Columbus being an absolute hack. (Why would Draco and Ron be awed and surprised by magic?? They grew up in magic families! Gah. Sorry...)

I made a huge pot of gumbo and some corn bread and we're just eating as we see fit and snuggling. That'll cure what ails you. Unless, you know... you're blind or something. Pretty sure gumbo doesn't cure that.

Gumbo a la Stoney

1 lb. shrimp meat
1 lb. crawfish tails (mmm, and they's runnin' now, dat be good eatin')
1 lb. andouile sausage (or chicken) chopped
1 can okra, creole style if you can find it (fresh takes a loooong time to get tender, is all)
1 can Rotel tomatoes (or three tomatoes diced, two jalapenos diced, 1/2 green pepper diced)
1 C brown rice (leftover rice is jes fine)
1 TBSP Tony Chacheres (every kitchen needs this)
1 medium onion diced (yaller if you find one)
1 red bell pepper diced (if you roast it? Peel it? Dice it? Ooooooooey! Dats real good eatin.)
salt/pepper to taste
coupla dashes of tabasco, or half a bottle if you's in mah house

Cover with chicken stock plus two inches, bring to a boil, simmer for 45 minutes, push them others out ta way ta get ya own bowl first.

Now, I'm not one to tells ya what to done did, but if you had a good beer like some Shiner Bach or some Pabst Blue Ribbon like my pappy drank? You gonna feel like you sittin on dey porch down on Pontchartrain with them catfish jumpin.

Guar-un-tee. Now, 'scuse, but I gonna get back to the movies. There's a blanket of kitties that's calling.

Sounds like you have the perfect cure for the blues. I have plans for a Harry Potter marathon in the near future. And now i am forbidden to watch without my sweetie present.

*reads recipe* *Hops plane to TX.* You're hawt, and funny and you can cook. Seriously Mr. S needs to reconsider allowing you to leave the house. You might be stolen.

Tks for posting, I've been thinking about you!

Hee, we are on the same page. I have the Descent of the Parents tomorrow and am making jambalaya. It's cool and rainy here, too.

Hang in there, my sweet. You are badder than the baddest bad-ass in the valley---and you can whip the sweet little innocent ones too. xox

Thought about you today. I went shopping at J. Jill for an outfit to wear out to a company dinner with Ron this coming Tuesday; thanks to your advice on where to shop I will look very nice, so thank you!

We had chili tonight at my friend D's house. Not gumbo, but it was good.

Sounds down rigth tasty, althpugh I've converted to D.L.Jardines, because it's got more of the fresh cayenne pepper top notes and less of the brine tank about it.

Blankies and on demand feeding sounds downright seductive, although hard to do at our house tonight, as the larger child is at work (and has some mysterious social life going on, having gone out for breakfast after an early meeting this morning, and "probably" going to the early show of V for Vendetta tomorrow) and the smaller one is in transit from the state Thespian Conferance and will hit the house like very old and badly stored dynamite sometime around nine.

Julia, with a list of things accomplished today that includes the purchase of a Jones New York skirt for $14... that I've wanted since it was $109.

From: [identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com
Ho, ho, hold up. Brine taste? In Tony's? I'll take your word on it. Oooh, DL Jardine's has a BBQ sauce for chicken that is SOO good: Chicken Lickin'. (And I approve of them as it's based in San Antonio. But seriously: Tony's goes in EVERYTHING here.)

Oooh, way to go on the shopping! There is nothing like getting something cheap - something that is of a good quality, that is.

*pours you a bowl, scootches over on the sofa* And they're all dropping like flies around me now... Light weights.

I think Tabasco is fermented longer, is what it is. We were the recipient of a flight delay at DFW and there's a store there that sells a bunch of different kinds of pepper sauces- the dorky stuff like Dave's Insanity sauce, but also a ton of different Cayenne/ Habenero/ Jalapeno/Thai Dragon et'c and so on.

What goes fastest at our house is Sriracha, though, which gets stuck in half the meals we cook.

Julia, counting down to the arrival of Miss "No Sleep, 72 Hours with Other Teenagers, Concerta All Gone" in about 88 minutes.

Ahhhhhhh. And I rarely use Tabasco brand. That's like coke here: all soda is coke. All hot pepper sauce is tabasco. I use a brand called Cholula. Made across the border and goood.

Although I love with a firey (ahem) passion the Tabasco with Chipotle and use it as a steak sauce. Mmmmm.

Chris Columbus IS a hack...and he has an unfortunate name. C'MON parents! Don't be mean! You just know he was tortured as a kid. "Discover anything today, Columbus?" Anyway, his movies are enormous Quiddich matches and nice "acting" from the kids. The seams are so apparent. He's from the Lucas school of directing: I love special effects but acting can go hang. Which is why GoF and PoA are SOOOO much better. Character! Wow, look at that!

Oh, yeah. I've always wanted to try to make gumbo. Mmmmmmm.

But since we don't have Tony Chacheres around here, what sort of stuff is in him? Is shambling after some random guy named Tony going braaaaiiiiinnnss a suitable substitution?

TRISH!!! *grabs you*

Yes, that should work, but mostly... no. Let's see. Garlic powder, pepper, salt, red pepper flakes...

Screw that. I still have your address. Check your mail box this week. IT IS A CRIME THAT YOU CANNOT BUY IT.
